The "remittance" rule in Thailand is that offshore income is not taxable here unless it is remitted into Thailand in the same calendar year as it is earned. Since money is fungible there is no effective way to determine what the source of cash remitted into Thailand is. Thus, effectively no one pays tax on offshore income. This rule also applies to Thai citizens and not just foreigners residing here.

High speed internet and landline for 8,000 a month?? In Hua Hin you will get a dump. In Samui you will get a tent!

I'm at the beach in HH 2-3 times a week. No jelly fish of any kind for quite some time.

Better be careful. I usually book online with Thai in either business or first class. I am always asked for my card when I check in. One time my old card expired and showed new card ((same Visa card) and I had to go to the ticket counter and rebuy the ticket (same price). I would not trust what they tell you on the phone. My guess without the actual card (in your name) you will not get on the plane! But up to you......

The Spanish embassy here is a disaster to deal with. My Thai wife and I have traveled to many European countries and the only one that was a big problem with a visa was Spain, One crazy thing they insisted on was the hotel booking has to be in her name and not mine regardless of the fact that the booking was for 2 people. Suggest you spend more time in Portugal than Spain to you can get the Shengen visa there and still use for Spain.

They are not simply "refunding" the bank interest. What you are doing is filing a Thai income tax return declaring the interest in which case you get a credit for the 15% tax withheld. If your taxable income is less than 150,000 Baht the personal tax rate is zero thus you get a full refund. But if your interest income is more than 180,000 (personal exemption is 30,000) then you are subject to the graduated tax rates and will not get all the withholding back.
VAT refunds are for tourists who take the goods out of Thailand and must be claimed at the airport on departure. You need the VAT invoice and show the goods to the tax officer to get the refund of VAT. So if you some how can get your car into the terminal and on the plane you might get a refund of the VAT (555+)

What kind of moron are you? I think I can tell by your poor English and the fact that you are asking the nitwits on Thai Visa for advice.
Did it ever occur to you to see a reputable lawyer here in Thailand.....???????

A total traffic disaster.... Now low season and took 20 minutes to pass this crap mall on main road on Monday!!!! In high season it will make BKK traffic look like a race way compared to downtown HH. Who in their right mind would have allowed this to be built? Oh yes, stupid question....

I was at Khao Takiab when the PBS news car came by. 3 people got out, stood at the beach enterence for 2 minutes, looked around and left. No photos, no investigation. As others have said the sand is covered by sunk in oil and you can not walk without getting black feet or shoes. Photos from yesterday.

I was at Khao Takiab beach several times this week, including today. No jelly fish. I live in HH and it seems the jelly fish are here in May/June when the water is the warmest.

Income earned offshore --for both a Thai citizen and a foreigner resident in Thailand-- is only taxable in Thailand if the income is brought into Thailand in the year earned. Quite a loop hole. So if you have a pension paid into an offshore account, capital gains, interest, dividends earned in an offshore account they are not taxable here if not remitted into Thailand in the year earned. It is a totally stupid rule (TIT) because money is fungible so how do you prove (more importantly how would the Revenue Department prove) what income is brought in and from what year. Uninforcable and they do not even try. Wealthy Thais exploit this rule and use investment accounts in tax havens like Hong Kong to avoid paying tax anywhere. BTW-- I am a tax partner here with an international accounting firm and not one of the arm chair idiots who comment on thigs they know nothing about......

Good April Fools one. But not quite as good as last year --switching to drive on right side of the road.

There are no commercial flights to Hua Hin from anywhere. Only charter flights.

Last week was the inaugural Thailand Golf Classic at Black Mountain. An excellent event to promote Hua Hin. Many top golfers from the European and Asian tours attended. Most stayed in town at the Intercontinental Hotel and where taken by van or shuttle to the course. How was their experience (as well as the experience of the many visitors who came to watch?
Well I am sure they enjoyed the ride. They were driven through town and then turned off the bypass road and past the Hua Hin Dog Shelter. The road leading to the dog shelter was somewhat fixed last year when His Majesty the King paid a visit. Past the shelter the fun begins. Rounding the bend past the big temple they experienced the one of the worst rutted roads in all of Thailand. Pot holes big enough to swallow a small car. Then they turned left onto the road to Black Mountain. I am sure they were travelling slowly due to the numerous potholes so they were able to take in a wonderful view of the litter and rubbish strewn roadside. But they were probably bouncing around so much that maybe they could not take in all the scenery…… I’m sure a few tooth fillings were jarred lose on the ride.
Does anyone think the town leaders were embarrassed by this? Not a chance!
Hua Hin has some of the worst roads of any major tourist destination in Thailand. How mush money was wasted on the repaving and rerouting of Phetkasem road through town? Making U-turn lanes and then ripping them up and two weeks later to start again with a new design. Then yet again. It took months for them to paint the white lines showing the traffic what lanes to use (not that most Thai drivers follow line anyway). Within weeks the white lines turned back due to the poor quality of the asphalt, which contained too much tar and blacked the lines. Now they are all but impossible to see. Total chaos on the road. Seems each day some imbecile puts out traffic cones at different place along the road and at the U-turns, so each day is a new adventure.
Are any of the town leaders embarrassed or concerned by this? Mai Pen Rai.
Lastly a dig at Black Mountain. While all in all the tournament was enjoyable once you survived the trip there, there were some fiascos that Black Mountain needs to address next year (assuming any one comes back). First how about a big sign directly visitors to the off site parking by the water park? Most everyone turned into Black Mountain only to be told to turn around and go back out to the parking. Next the total havoc and chaos at the end on Sunday when the pick up point for the shuttle vans to the parking was totally jammed with no one capable of directing traffic and cars, vans and busses parked to as to make it unmanuverable. Most visitors were forced to walk to the parking lot. Even many Thais who probably had their first experience of walking more than 20 meters…….

Lots of responses and as usual many idiotic.
Some follow on points. The beach at Khao Takiab runs from "chopstick" mountain to Khao Tao and is about 8km long. The section with the chairs and vendors is about 500 meters. So anyone who wants to sit on a towel in the sand has plenty of beach...... Next point, many Thai tourists come there. Thai's don't like to sit in the sun. Next point for the imbeciles who suggest bringing your own chair, umbrella etc. that is an option if you live here (but still a pain). In high season there are hundreds of European and other western tourists who come. What about them? Most stay in a condo or hotel in walking distance and don't use a car. They all want a chair and umbrella (in December/January every one is taken) and have come to expect that they will be available. Tourism is the life blood of Hua Hin and why would the army now take away things the tourists enjoy. Next point is about the horses. Every one of the jockies carries plastic bags and immediately scoops up the shit when their horse does it. Rarely have I seen horse shit on the beach. Last point again the vendors at K Tabiab are not mafia thugs. Each one is a very friendly Thai who have made a living from the beach. In addition to the chair vendors there are many massage ladies, roving food vendors and others who will now be put out of business. Very few posts show any sympathy for them. How nice of you all. Perhaps they are all there illegally, but it has been tollerated for years. Let the NCPO and army clean up the larrge scale corruption which is costing the country billions every year. Leave the little guy alone!!!!

Do I need to translate passport for falang residency card.
in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
Posted
Hua Hin requires translated passport which then must be then stamped by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Bangkok which then must be notarized at the US Embassy. Also translated names of mother and father (but not stamped). A royal pain the butt. The crazy thing is when you get the "pink card" it is all in Thai. While a Thai ID is in both English and Thai.
