  1. @ Suradit69. If you book a room on-line in Chaing Mai, and pay with a credit card, even though their web site says pay when you leave, you will be charged a long time before you even get there. This has happened to me a 2 differant hotels in Chiang Mai, and as far as the mini-bar payments go, they send someone to the room as you are checking out for an inventory and you pay for that when checking out,

  2. Formaldehyde has been used in food and drink for years, during the Viet Nam war all beer shipped from the US had Formaldehyde in it as a presevative, we used to laugh about it saying you would get emblamed instead of drunk. Now I don't think it is so funny, I eat from the street vendors all the time in CM and have never had any problems. It fact out where I live, by the University, is some of the best deep freid chicken I have ever eaten

  3. As a new comer to Thailand. I was wondering why the King doesn't stop this mess in Bangkok. I think he could put an end to this with 1 phone call. How long can he let this go on?

  4. Welcome Diddi, like you I am newbie to Chiang Mai, only been here for 1 year and a half, I thought about getting way out of the city myself, but then remembered I am retiring here so I must be getting old, I need to be within a hours drive to medical treatment and I like to eat American food at least once a week, and shop at the big supermarkets for Western food, You don't have to go far from the city to get away, within 30 minutes you will be in the country. I haven't found it to difficult to find people speaking English out side the city. I have expat friends and Thai friends, both inside and out side the city. I ride a motorcycle and have traveled alot. The Expat Club that others have mentioned it a good place to meet. Good luck to you and maybe we will meet someday.

  5. If you want to quit there is a few things you need to know, quitting is not easy, First thing is, you can't take that first drink, you cannot control your drinking after that, You need support, I get mine from AA, if you go to an AA meeting and you don't like that group find another. At first you might not like going to any meetings, most poeple still drinking doesn't want to hear about AA, you know why? Its because AA has helped millions get and stay sober. You have already taken the 1st step, why not try the other 11, it works. I didn't get sober in AA but it helps me stay sober, I got sober in a VA hospital. That was 28 years ago. Most of my friends my age have already died from drinking, except a few that saw me get sober and did the same. There are meetings everywhere , everyday and night, find 1 you like, get a sponsor right away, even if that person is only temperary, but remember "Don't take that first drink". Best of luck, you can PM me if you'd like. I would like to hear from you.

  6. Not only are they trying to do this, but does everybody know except me why an export/import has to pay duty on the cost of insurance of a container load of items, I think this is called usery in the States and is illegal, ofcourse this again is Thailand, they can do anything with customs and immirgration they want, Pay or not play in LOS. But, I still love it here. Don't want to be anywhere else.

  7. As a recovering Alcholic myself, I am glad to hear you took the first step, there is 12 steps to this program and its one step at a time. After 28 years of being sober I have to remind myself often that I am only one drink away for being drunk. That and with the help of my higher power, I will be sober the rest of my life. Its all about the first drink. Like you, I could not quit after the first drink. Good luck to you and if I can help in any way please let me know. As this is part of the 12th step. Please go to an AA meeting, find a sponser and work the steps. You will be surprised in no time. It just keeps getting better.
