  1. "We believe that people, where they can be compassionate, should be, for all animals."

Well here's the crux isn't it? He wasn't in a position to be compassionate to the fly that was mucking up his interview.. Nor was he dis-compassionate either, he killed it instantly after all, it didn't suffer...... :):D While it could be considered pedantic the last time I checked my entomology studies, flies are insects not animals, but that's PETA for you, no distinction and OTT...

This is getting a little off topic, But to settle an argument Insects are animals.

All insects are under the Kingdom Animalia.

Insects are a CLASS under the Phylum Arthropoda.

  2. I have a good friend who was central to exposing the orangutan saga at safari world (as well as having a televison show on animal planet) and while i agree wholeheartedly and support and admire what he does, i still take my 3 year old daughter there every chance i get.

I do this for the same reason i frequent siam oceanworld, in fact for the same reason MANY conservationists are in favour of zoos: i may not condone all their activities or exhibits, but i am teaching my child to love and respect animals and nature.

As she gets older i can continue her education by pointing out my issues with the exhibits and the conduct of the exhibitors. My friend is very much in agreement with my attitude in this respect.

that said, i have not taken her to see the orang show, nor do i intend to. feeding the giraffes and parrots though -- pure gold.

Ts Conservation is one thing (which i fully support) But exhibitionism is an entirely different thing.

  3. You have clearly no background knowledge of species-appropriate husbandry. Better shut up!

The same should apply to you get back in your cage.

    Hang on you two

May be i was misguided, But i was just beginning to think this could be a thread without any real slagging off.

ok ok so may be i'm blinkered my sincere apologises.

  4. I am not questioning your expertise infact I support the freedom for animals to live in the wild , but tigers and dolphins monkeys etc have been in world zoos and safaris all over the world for many years.

If these animals are trained correctly and cared for then let it be and go after the people who kill animals for ivory , skins etc.

And as I said before there are to many armchair critics that do nothing more than pass comments.

ok let me put it another way.

There should be zoo's in this world for one reason and one reason only.

That is to safeguard and stop the extinction of a species. If that involves the charging of people to view them that is ok. We know that keeping animals is expensive and the costs have to be found somewhere.

But no where in the book of rules does it say sedate or abuse.

  5. I strongly suspected the tigers had been tranquilized when I went to the Tiger zoo. I've never seen so many tigers so lethargic in my life and I've been to a few of these animal safari things. Tigers are cats and do take naps but when they are awake are much more alert then I saw these tigers exhibiting. I have no proof of them being drugged just my suspicion and I decided I didn't want to go back there since I was uncomfortable with potential drugging of the tigers.

    wow!!!!!

Someone on thai visa walks around with their eyes open, Maybe not a first but a rarity.

  6. I have just had a day at safari world this week you would love that place orangatang boxing , dolphin show , polar bears , tigers, here are some pics i posted.

I saw no signs of mistreated animals.

    http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/Safari-World-t280775.html

In saying that are you saying that should have being part of the show?

They are hardly likely to allow you to see that. Get real.

I don't like seeing animals mistreated at all and if I did see it I would have a different view , but the problem is that there are to many arm chair critics that talk a load of crap.

So are you saying i am an armchair critic?

By definition that is someone that has never seen, But is all to willing to speak on something he knows nothing about.

I have being involved with the born free foundation since 1979, And had dinner with two of the most inspiring people i could ever wish to meet. John Rendall and Ace Bourke, The two guys that bought Christian the lion from harrods in the 60's.

I know what i am talking about my friend.

Christian the lion just type that in on utube and enjoy.

Then buy the full dvd from born free foundation

  7. There are tranquilisers in this world, so....??

    Yes true.

Not sure how much i can say on that subject, Thai visa i am sure will not allow me to comment further for fear of lawsuit.

Suffice to say i have seen things ok

I understand your fear of being slapped by the mods, but we really need more info.... :) If you have seen something cruel with your own eyes, tell us.

May be i could make a draft and submit it to the moderators first for approval.

A little imput from the admin would be greeted with open arms on that please.

My wife, children and i are active sponsers of the born free foundation

  8. I really think the swatting of a fly has no bearing whatsoever.

We are talking of warm blooded animals here, in most cases mammals just like you and i.

  9. There are tranquilisers in this world, so....??

    Yes true.

Not sure how much i can say on that subject, Thai visa i am sure will not allow me to comment further for fear of lawsuit.

Suffice to say i have seen things ok

  10. If these animals were mistreated they would not be as gentle as they are there are tigers in zoos all over the world.

    Get over it.

I recommend to anyone go and have a look for your self its a well worth the visit.

    Rubbish.

Have you ever heard of the term beaten into submission?

  11. I have just read another post which suggests that the poster visit the Tiger Temple between Kanchanaburi and Sai Yok.

Over the years things have changed quite a bit there. The first time I visited was with my Thai family.

The entry fee at that stage was by donation for Thai nationals, as I got out of the car the cry Farang went up and I was ushered to a booth and paid 300 Baht. I had no problem with that. Back then it wasn't too commercialised and I felt it was worth the money. Photos were free. The only problem I had with it was the abbott who was very rude to my daughter who was carrying her baby son, he told her to get out before they bought the Tigers out. It was his manner which was rude. We were all told that highly coloured shirts weren't allowed as it upset the Tigers.

2 points to that, the monks wear brightly coloured robes and from memory big cats only see in black and white, I'm sure someone will correct me on that if I am wrong.

Next visit it was 300 Baht for tourists and Thai nationals alike. normal photos were free, but they had then introduced having a picture taken with you sitting down and a tigers head in your lap, price 1,000 Baht. about 50 prople were in line for this.

3rd visit was in Feb this year. Got quite a shock driving in, new roads and kilometers of new high walls, obviously the 1,000 Baht photos has raised substantial revenue.

However now the price was 500 Baht for Farang and 300 Baht for Thai nationals including Guides ( before guides were free ). New rules this time you cannot have your knees or shoulders showing so they direct you to the shop where polo type shirts were available for about double what you would pay elsewhere. Now you pay 50 Baht for normal photos and the 1,000 for the head in lap.

We left without going in. But talking to several guides they are very Anti to the Tiger temple.

I researched www.Kanchanaburi-info.com/en/saiyok and there is a warning which says and I quote:-

In the past reports from Tiger Temple volunteer workers increased that the Tigers were maltreated and abused by the abbott of the temple and his staff. A shortly released report from the British conservation group Care for the Wild International (CW) reveals disturing evidence of animal abuse and illegal tiger trafficking at the Temple.

For that reasons we clearly DON'T RECOMMEND A VISIT at the Tiger Temple and ask visitors to Kanchanaburi province to boycott the temple.

That's the info, you will all make your own minds up.

Having being born in Kanchanaburi, I can give an unbiased comment on this.

The tiger temple should have being shut down years ago.

To all tourists if you love wild life including tigers do not go there, Stay well clear of it.

  12. So what you are saying is; the police arrested this man and assisted this girl with her blackmailing demands for money for her participation in an illegal activity.

Sorry pal, as I said eariler, this story still doesn`t make sense.

There is many more stories stranger than that and true.

My daughter tells me of many, Which if it was not for her telling me i would not believe.

Truth is sometimes stranger than fiction, That is fact anyone wants to dispute that. Try adding one more brain cell to the two you already have.

  13. Not mind boggling at all. Are you suggesting that all these millions are "intellectually challenged dolts" from the NE as the English media would have you believe? Have you ever stopped to consider the possibility that these people have legitimate reasons for re-electing him and the Democratic Samak/Somchai Governments that followed. I marvel at how Thai people are able to see through the orchestrated media demonization campaign of Thaksin. They are much more astute than the Farangs who populate this forumn. They see through the media propaganda which has most farangs so ensnared. They have a historical perspective and a clear awareness of their self-interest. Some people suggest that large sectors of society cannot vote responsibly and accordingly, others have a better opinion of what is best for them. Arrogance that knows no bounds. Voters in all legitimate Democracies vote in their own best self-interest, and the majority is elected accordingly. To abort this process leads to national instability wherever it occurs.

    Hello sprog

  14. I admit I have an interest in Politics, and will comment on other posts/Thaivisa when I have something substantive to say or ask. But politics is my primary interest, no doubt.

I also admit that I have a conviction that the Thai English media is agenda driven.

Given the parrallel between many Farang comments to the English media agenda, tends to elicit a response to that fact from me, that seems repetitive. That is true. I apologise for that, but I don't apologise for trying to present a balanced perspective. I also have diverse and alternative in-depth sources not available to most Farangs. I cannot reveal those sources, so hope to be judged on the quality of my comments. I wish to avoid a situation whereby the messenger becomes the focus instead of the message.

So what are you saying? At this moment in time all you have said is you supposedly know more than most farangs on here (sources not revealed).

Give us something to work on, Instead of instilling your delusions of granduer upon us.

  15. I am working in Vietnam.

My laptop was perfectly behaving itself until a few days ago, when it decided that I did not need Internet access anymore.

When I click on Internet Explorer I get the normal screen come up, the wireless indicator icon signifies that I am linked to a wireless network, but then the screen tells me there is no internet access.

I troubleshoot and the tick-list is only checked at the first item. t item 2 <default gateway> I get a yellow triangle and try the <repair> button. No change.

This happens on whatever wireless network I try (hotel, work, others) so the fault is within my computer, I am sure.

Tried hard-wired access, but that does not even register as being connected.

When trying other ways of starting to get into the WWW I get <Error 80072ee7> come up - whatever that error means.

    Any ideas chaps (and chapesses)??

I am working on a hotel computer at the moment, but off to work at 07.30, so probably will not respond until this evening.

Thanks for your future help ............. HB

That is a windows live messenger error code.

    Are you on windows vista?

If so restore your pc to an earlier date before you had the problem

  16. Aren't you embarrassed parotting the English language media like that. I notice you even use their precribed word "fugitive". This is an inclusion requirement for all media reports on Thaksin. But with no English language alternatives to media that is not independent, I can understand.

What are you talking about? Please explain.

Thaksin can do or say whatever he wants. Fact is he'll never be coming back to Thailand. Shout at the moon all you want bozo.

This is Thailand! Do not be suprised by anything that happens here. You may well eat your words i sincerely hope you do not.

  17. Thaksin (more aptly named TOXIN)

Has to keep his home fires burning, Without obsurd statements like this from him he would die.

He wants his supporters to believe he will be back in control,In reality he is fighting for survival. The truth is if our government does not come up with something good soon he may well survive.

Then farang would have something moan about.

  18. What a load of crap. THAI and BKK AIR are not even close to AirAsia in pricing or service.

I fly sometimes 2/3 times a year to the uk.

There was a time when i found emirates cheaper than most, In fact sometimes they can still be cheaper. The service from them cannot be rivaled by any airline.

You have to be prepared to shop around and bookmark the cheapest you find.

But Air Asia, Traveled with them once or twice. Not sure if i would again (take that anyway you like)
