  1. The Translations do not need to be stamped by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Just a stamp by an Official Translator/official (who most translation companies will be able to provide). I know as I just recently applied and received a UK passport for my English/Thai daughter and didn't go near MOFA.

However this might not be the case if you are registering the Birth at the same time. I have not registered her birth just applied for and got the passport. By all accounts registration is pointless.

  2. ...There was about 400 applications that day, busiest I've seen it and I've been a few times. They started turning people away once the ticket machine ran out.

I've been there too and that's not true. Once the ticket machine and the ticket system broke, they wrote numbers by hand. It were more then 500 numbers. They didn't send anyone home.

As some here still tell people to go back by tuktuk or taxi to the border: opposite the morning market is the bus station. Just ask for the Laos International Bus Line. They drive several times a day straight from Vientiane to Nong Khai (50 Baht), to Udon Thani (about 80 Baht; 2pm, 4pm and 6pm) and to Kon Khaen (180 Baht).

It is true, you have to bang on the door to get hand written ticket numbers, they did the written tickets for a little while but there was no consulate staff waiting there to hand them out. The people cutting in at the windows asking for numbers where being turned away on Monday. Unless 'too late, comeback tomorrow' means something else.

  3. True is definitely cracking down on torrent downloads and it looks like they are running Sandvine which is a notorious isp throttling program. I'm not sure whether they are doing it by region or as a whole. Since some people living in the boonies seem to be unaffected it could be by region with the heaviest downloading patterns around the large metro areas. I ran various network monitoring tests and everything reported back traffic disruption consistent with sandvine throttling. I further confirmed this by accessing bitorrent through VPN tunneling and immediately the transfer rates went back to normal. So it looks like it may be time to switch isps. Can anyone report their experiences elsewhere?

I've been racking my brain for a week trying to figure out why my newsreaders speed dropped to 8-10 Kbps when its usually 900Kbps. Thanks for the idea to switch to VPN Tunnelling. I changed servers to SSL and speeds are way up again. True suck.

  4. If Thailand is smart, she should stop this program at all cost.

    Put the producer in jail.

Block youtube again like what they have done in the past.

Any one found distributing the clips in email, CD should also be fine or go to jail.

Better do it sooner than later.

Some has been in Thailand too long. :)

  5. I must ask though, I have noticed that the transsexuals who operate on Beach Rd. are a major problem here in Pattaya and commit many crimes that go unpunished - are the Tourist Police and Thai Police working together to put an end to this or impose sanctions which will eradicate this?

Howard's matey on the program has been known to take vigilante action against beach road ladyboys.

  6. This has just happened to me a few days ago :

Put in my card and the machine had an internal power cut, completely offline. I got my girlfriend to call the bank and explain what happened and they said an engineer would be out to fix the machine within 24 hours but couldnt tell me when . I said , I need my card and money now. I was then told the same story , the card would be destroyed and I would have to get a new one . I was livid , blew a fuse myself and wanted to rip someones head off.

The problem now is that I contacted my bank in the UK and ordered a new card , they told me for security reasons - NAT-F-In- WEST would not send my new ATM card to Thailand . I was told I should either go and collect the new card personally (flying all that way just for my card , I dont think so ) or have it sent to an address in the UK.

I told her I dont have an address is the UK as I live in Thailand and want it sent here. NO.

I asked if they could have the card sent to the branch and for them to put it in an envelope and send for me as I have been a customer for 30 years , still , NO.

So , I then said , I have a friend in London , can the card be sent to his address - YES.

Great , so can I give you the address of where to send the card and can you re-order, NO

You have to write to the branch and change your address from Thailand to your friends London address and we need it in writing with your signiture, AGHRRR.

So , now I have to change my address in Thailand to my friends address in London, then the card will be sent to him , then on to me . Then I have to send another letter after I have recieved the new card and change my address from my friends address in London back to Thailand .

And we all thought Thailand was bad.

    A-ho*les all of them.

Seems I'm having all the luck. I just had a brand new Natwest ATM card mailed out to me by Natwest. Try calling your actual branch. Not the main call centre.

  7. I had this same problem last month with a Kasikorn ATM in Pattaya. Card was swallowed by the machine. I then had my Thai Wife call the hotline number on the machine and they arranged for me to pick up the card the following day at the main branch on Pattaya Klang. Maybe I got lucky.

Edit. The card that was swallowed was a UK issued Visa creditcard.

  8. It's a good choice if your wanting to lose weight in a short period of time. I wouldn't want to to do it long term though. A better way would be to use it to achieve your goal weight. Then move to a more healthy and balanced diet. Limit any carbohydrates to breakfast and early afternoon. Avoid them totally in the evening.
