Why don't they just give the job to the Dutch?

I read years ago that the Dutch came and gave an estimate on doing the job right. Then they were told that a certain percentage of the cost of the project would have to go into envelopes to high ranking officials. They left. That''s not how they do business.

Seems my decision to go back to the US in a few weeks is a good one.

We in the US are enjoying the amazing success of the Moderna and Pfizer vaccines which are over 90% effective in preventing serious illness and even transmission of the virus in public. Mask mandates are dropping fast. Life is returning back to normal faster than anyone could have predicted. It's hard to get a flight reservation for the Memorial Day weekend because planes are full. While Thailand is busy pointing fingers at different groups(hi-so vs. illegal immigrants working in slave conditions)and restricting alcohol, vaccines here are available at most drug stores and even public places like churches, baseball games and subway stations with walkups welcome.  The lack of organization and truth among Thai authorities is disappointing but not surprising. And yes, I've been to Thailand >10 times so I know how the country works/doesn't work. Finally, the vaccines are free for everyone.

  3. As an American, I have seen what works and what doesn't because we are months ahead of Thailand's vaccination program. The only way to restore some sort of normalcy to life and business to Thailand is through mass vaccination clinics. Thailand needs to find sources of it and be quick about it even if it means using the Russian or the Chinese vaccines. Lockdowns, arguably, are of limited value and hurt the locals almost as much of the virus.

By contrast when Trump wanted to fire the Acting Attorney General Jeffrey Rosen a few days before the attack on Congress, the entire senior leadership of the DoJ threatened to resign so that Trump had to back down.  So, it turns out principled resistance to Trump was not doomed in all cases.

Birx, Redfield, Fauci, and the other careerists in the public health departments of the government could have pushed back even if it cost them their jobs.

In fact, Fauci is the only one involved in the White House response that is still employed by the Federal government. None of the others where asked to join the Biden administration. They are currently job hunting or taking early retirement.

Not taking advantage of tourists is more easily said than done. Usually it starts right from the taxi that picks you up from the airport and ends only when you are back in the plane for your flight home.

I have used those exact same words when my American friends ask me why I won't return to Thailand after the pandemic. No more. The 36 hour trip from the US east coast just isn't worth it anymore after >10 trips to LOS. If I wanted to be treated with such contempt , I would remarry. Neither of those is going to happen.

Can only be grown outside(with no lights) so  Cancer patients will be getting low-grade Thai Bush Weed grown my Mum and pop. Instead of higher grade star dog or lemon kush  grown by experts in A greenhouse with  Hydroponics and lights and filters not that I know about these things.

We have a well developed and well run medical MJ program in the state of Pennsylvania in America. All samples are certified by labs for quality and lack of pesticide residues. Grown and sold by private companies with monitoring by the State. Thailand could do worse than look at our excellent solution to MJ grown, regulation and distribution.
