Prior to Covid it already was a "hub" for tourism. 15th most visited city in 2019 and those above Pattaya on the list are far larger cities and in some cases are whole islands or whole countries. Just go back to business as usual and prosperity will return. RANKED: the Most Visited Cities Around the World in 2019 (businessinsider.com)

I have my pension paid into my UK bank and then move across when the exchange rate is favorable. It does not cost the UK Government anything extra so I do not understand this so called reciprocal agreement. The only thing different is my address.
The UK have actually committed fraud in my opinion and it is about time that everybody got together to fight this.
Well said. In fact the argument is even stronger than you say because the government has many savings that further reduce the cost to it. I'm no expert on this but my understanding is that many UK based pensioners receive benefits relating to housing, council tax, bus passes, winter warming and, of course, the big one, NHS health care etc. The least they could do is to give us The State Pension we earned.

I would really like to see the statistics on this. Is it really us old guys with pre-existing conditions who cost the Thai health authorities big money or is it the young adventurous tourists on motorbikes, with no insurance, who cannot meet their hospital bills? This new policy offers a solution to the former but is that really the group that costs the money?

So major events produce no cases at all. Restaurants are to blame for the outbreak and, at one location 25% of tests were positive. Now Mr Mayor, if you want to be believed, show us the real numbers.

Because vaccinated people can still be infected with the virus.
Vaccination doesn't guarantee you won't get the virus, but it might help relieve your suffering if you do get the virus.
Tell us something we don't know.

Is it possible that the stats have gone up because fewer people now have the disposable income to float a bribe?
Also possible that, like Covid, more tests are being done.

What a circus of hypocrisy.
I feel sad. Maybe I shall go console myself by inviting a couple of girls from Patong to a movie night using a VPN with a boat load of booze I can't buy from a bar, followed by high quality conversation into the small hours.Sounds like a plan.

possible arrival of workers from Bangkok and its vicinities, following the closure of construction worker housing there
In another thread it says that the construction sites are closing but the workers' camps are being sealed off. Workers should not be able to invade Buriram.
"construction sites in the six areas will be shut down and workers' camps will be sealed off to contain clusters."

I have a hospital appointment in March. I asked them if I could have a Covid jab at the same time. I asked them, I want it, I will pay for it but their answer was that I could not have it until the government sources the vaccine. No need for a poll to tell me to get vaccinated.

The first is called "Quarantine At Home". Under this idea the tourist will be required to quarantine at their home where they are about to begin their journey before setting foot in Thailand.
Completely bonkers. Going from the current system to this would be a massive step too far. Where would the supervision be? Please let it not be another form to go with the current pile and the forthcoming inevitable Proof of Vaccination.

In my wild and hedonistic youth, me and my mates did the Pattaya-Phuket trip by road twice. The fun and excitement on the outward trip had somewhat diminished after 10 days of beer and skittles and the return drive. For me, this ferry is on a winner with a one-way trip to the south and a more sedate drive back north with stopovers, or vice versa.
Well said.

That is an extraordinarily negative comment. There are beaches, national parks, islands and much more for someone with time and the freedom of the open road.

Depends on if she is registered for the 30 baht scheme at the hospital she is in. If she is out of province then most medical treatments cost the actual price. If she is registered at the hospital she is at then something smells awful fishy. If she was sent to the hospital because she is a Covid patient, then the Thai Government should be picking up the tab. Not sure what to tell you.
That's very helpful. There are issues you have mentioned of which I was not aware. She is out of province and I doubt she would have the ฿30 scheme even at home. She had a fever and was told to stay in her room for three days. Nurses visited her there and decided to hospitalise her before the three days were up. Not sure if that qualifies for the Thai Government picking up the tab. Thanks.

A friend of mine was admitted to Banglamung Hospital yesterday for Covid treatment. She claims that the hospital is demanding payment of ฿9000 for a 15 day stay. I don't always believe what she says and I have little knowledge of government hospitals. Can anyone advise whether Thailand expects their poorer citizens to pay for treatment and is prepared to risk the virus spreading in the population through those who cannot afford the cost?

Fair play to the hotels that have guests this weekend. One weekend though is not going to ease the pain caused by so many weeks and months when they were empty.

They need something to protect the Thai population from us dirty Farangs who never shower and spread all manner of diseases. This will be a good supplement to the quarantine, wristbands and minders they already have lined up.
I just installed Mor Chana just to have a look at it. One of the questions in the registration/initial assessment was "Do you work near foreigners?". It would be interesting to know how many black marks are given for answering "yes" to that.

Teacher assaults primary student because he dared to ask a question

Good question and very important. Decades ago in the Army one of the subjects we used to teach was "Methods of Instruction". When young NCOs were teaching their soldiers they were taught how to handle difficult questions. They should tell the soldiers that they, the NCO, did not know the answer but would find out and let them know at the next lesson. Most important to do exactly that, then everyone learns and respect is maintained.
