  1. Pension, SIPP, QROPS and Trust fund scams (all over Thailand).

Can you provide and detail into what these scams are about.
Foreigner men in Thailand trying to convince UK citizens to put their pension plans into SIPP, QROPs, or trust funds.

They can get a better return on your money, they can save you paying income tax, etc.

They often invest your funds in whatever gives them the biggest commission while taking extreme risks with your pension.

(Companies about to go under usually offer the biggest commissions to IFAs)

Leave it in the UK, lots of rules to protect you there, nothing at all to protect you in Thailand.

Anyone ever made money in a QROP?

    (I think not)

Obviously you have no idea what you are talking about, QROPs is registered and promoted by HM government, your money stays in the UK and is perfectly safe. I save over 2,000 GBP a year on tax and now with the new changes this year in the UK tax system even more. Suggest you get you fact straight before you make a blanket criticism.

how can a non thai get QROPs?appreciate info
  2. After living in Thailand for 34 years..... I find it really interesting that "ferang" would ever consider buying property here.

I wish you all the best, and know that it will all end in tears.

why so ?if your intention is property as investment to make money ok., but just as a place to live then surely its ok
  3. So can I buy a used condo in bkk not more than 500 mtrs from mass transit for 2-2.5 million?

What type of property are you looking for? No. of BR? Sq. M.?

Assuming you are familiar with the areas served by the BTS and MRT, you could scan local forums like prakard to get a feel for what's out there.

    http://www.prakard.com/default.aspx?g=topics&f=417

thanks. What is BR ? And can you give me some info about buying such as contracts , lease times .visa requirement(if any) management fees , thanks
  4. This is pretty staggering indeed but I dont believe a word of it. My old building had a vacancy rate of under 20% (no I didnt own but I did bail). The 1BRs started at 35K band in late 2008 and by 2010 you couldnt give them Awat for 18K. not even a lower ball offer. Oh and this was the prestigious bed supper club area. LOL. I got the bleep out of there rapid fire and my rent went to zero. how about that

    please explain the jargon

  5. So can I buy a used condo in bkk not more than 500 mtrs from mass transit for 2-2.5 million?

If you could put up with 35-40sqm one bed you could probably trawl the new condos on soi On Nut (that's Sukhumvit soi 77) from Sukhumvit junction outwards and along Sukhumvit from Prakanong outwards and pitch a price at them for a new unsold unit. I reckon some of these builder/developers that are now advertising their units for let (some are advertising resales - I would guess on behalf of early investors) are $hitting cobs having to play the landlord and pay the banks their financing.

Anything on Suk is not going to be more than a click from BTS. Mine is half a click and others are popping up between me and the station. I'm at Diamond Sukhumvit opposite the soi77/Suk junction on Suk. Nice enough block. Paid 4.5 for a 70sqm 2 bed 2 years ago - I think those are still the same price. I'd go prodding prices downstairs for you for the smaller ones if I wasn't in the UK for a couple of weeks.

Heresay has it that second hand apartments go at substantial discounts to new, but who cares if you are buying for the long term and you have got reasons to ignore the very sensible advice that renting is far better value in Thailand. Cast your net wide, bargain hard and don't be scared to misplaced arrogance a few times.

many thanks , what are the management/service charges like in most of the condos and what are the lease times?
  6. Thai people cannot be trusted because u were stupid to not have a contract.

    Is your wife trustworthy,her family/???

I had to sort out a stupid farang a few years ago,are all farangs stupid, i dont think so

Agree. The OP is talking about one Thai who is/was untrustworthy. ONE Thai. Which in his brain means ALL Thais are untrustworthy. So typical of the mentality we see on TV and makes me not one bit sympathetic to the OP's plight.

No !!he trusted someone who said the owner was trustworthy and no need of a contract.so he trusted 2 thais and of course there is only one dishonest thai in the whole country, No sympathy for not signing a contract.
  7. Escapologist, what is it you don't understand about the fact that the European Convention on Human Rights has absolutely nothing to do with the European Union?

This case was decided by a United Kingdom immigration tribunal.Set up by the UK Parliament, not the Council of Europe; the parent body of the ECHR.

Foreign judges do not sit on UK immigration tribunals; British judges do.

Yes, the decision on this case was based, in part at least, upon Article 8 of the European Convention on Human Rights.

The ECHR was drafted in 1950 and came into force in September 1953; four years before the Treaty of Rome which brought the EEC, which is now the EU, into being. The UK was one of it's original signatories. There are currently 47 signatories, including the 28 members of the EU.

History lesson over; so will you get your facts right in future or simply continue to ignore those which disprove your prejudices?

As for this case; you and Daily Mail readers obviously think it right to send a 48 year old mentally ill man who has lived in the UK since he was 13 to what is effectively a strange, foreign country; but the judges at the tribunal don't.

    I agree with them.

The same as I agreed with the decision not to strip Sakchai Makao of his ILR and deport him to Thailand.

Never heard of him? Look him up.

The ECHR can block any decision by a uk court in respect of deporting a foreign national from a signoratory country (UK) if it wants as it has done. . That is fact and I dont have to be a Daily mail reader to know how UK courts are being over ruled byEuropean ones . The fact that many UK mps want to change but their party. Leaders dont.
