  1. I have not heard of any work permit rule changes being done. But it could be specific to one work permit office making their own rule.

This info was from a well know firm based in bangkok renewing in bangkok..

    Strange

So! Charles Manson is well known too, would you believe what he says? Immigration doesnt even know the changes BUT at the end of the day as inconveniant it is.. renew twice a year

  2. Excuse me! 8.8 billion to fund war against some new Mickey Mouse club that didn't exist/or was talked about until recently? And of course we don't negotiate with terrorists and sticking to that logic. I bet that logic would go out the window if Obama or one of his little girls were taken...

I think it would be cheaper to buy IS and hope they have some integrity to keep their word. Just give them money and tell them to leave the world alone.

Now, this so called funding, perhaps we should fund, homelessness, poverty, starving people, public resources in the USA.. how bout dem apples?

  3. Part of making it work, at least from my selfish perspective, is how you are treated. Is your spouse/partner a part of your care structure? By that, I mean, can your spouse/partner or you make/take the decisions necessary in a time of crisis? My question is specific to health care and whether or not your local health care provider will allow you or the spouse/partner to make a critical health decision.

I ask because I have read of cases where important decisions had to be made on behalf of someone and the hospital would not allow the partner to authorize a treatment. In one case, the Thai was in a coma, and the foreign partner wanted the patient transferred to another hospital for a different course of treatment. The hospital insisted that only the Thai family could make that decision.(The couple had been together 5+ years, and were just a regular couple unit. Making matters worse is that they just had each other, so who were they expected to call to get permission?)

I am not intending to go off on a tangent about rights and all that stuff, because it's a no brainer in that it is common sense that one's partner/spouse should be able to do that. Unfortunately, common sense often takes a back seat to "procedures" in the bureaucratic world of Thai healthcare. How do you make it work, and how do you make the health services people listen to you? In some regions, the health care providers are to put it politely, 25 years behind the times.

I've always managed to make people listen to me with a gun. However, I suppose there are other milder ways. Regardless of marriage/rights or legally observing such in whatever country you happen to be in, there are "contracts" that have always existed that can legally bind people together for certain purposes. A "DURABLE POWER OF ATTORNEY" can be specifically written to your needs and intentions and/or "LIVING WILL". You don't need to be married or a family member to have either of those documents in legal effect.

  4. After the invasion of IRAQ, I figured that US citizens would benefit in someway by directly pipelining oil from Iraq to the USA, but instead gas shot up to more than $4 a gallon.

US government goes to war and the citizens pay and receive NO benefits. US government makes worldwide enemies and its the citizens who suffer becoming victims when traveling.

  5. I'm glad I managed to skip this system...where theres a will theres a way and money helps too.

A few years ago, an agency I had done some visa runs with assisted me with the ED visa. We met, I handed my passport, 2 photos and a fee and within a weeks time my passport was hand delivered back to me with my first 15month ED visa. I did 2 more 1 year extensions on that ED visa the same way. Funny the last extension I did, I actually received a student ID card to a school I had never been too.

However, hearing all these stories of Immigration using their own judgement and enforcement tactics or giving you a Thai test in line has me quite concerned if I am ever hailed on re-entry as the extent of my Thai is nil.

So I'm gonna give up the ED thing for a while and get the Non-B visa/work permit with a company "hiring" me as a "consultant", though I'll never get a paycheck it will put all thaose spot-checks in the immigration line out of my thoughts.

It is what it is... a matter of survival... you gotta do what you gotta do...

I helped a Thai National get a B-2 tourist Visa to the USA and he got 10years... and here we are in Thailand fighting for 1 year at a time, with mandatory reports and hoops and BS...

  6. OK, I'm an American from the "Ununited Socialists States of America" USSA... I understand Thailand wanting to be a good neighbor in the international community and sharing their results to prove they are taking this issue seriously...BUT who the F is the "US" and why does anyone feel they need to prove their countries progress/status to the US?

Sure, I guess the US has a way of meddling in other countries/peoples lives and making life a living hell, kinda like that bully in elementary school who you gave your lunch money too just to get rid of them BUT... F the US, I wouldn't report my toilet paper usage... let them sit and fester and see the results in the future.

  7. I find this report thing funny and have refused to do so in the 4+ full-time years I've been here...Yes, I come in and out one a year or so, I get re-entry permits when needed and have been on ED visas having never attended a school or taken a course.

I simply don't agree, so I simply don't do it.. here is why:

If I can produce a lease/contract for 6mo/1yr what is the point to report my address 4x? My time is too valuable doing nothing than spending it on government, illogical hoops.

So what do you think of Thais living in your home country who might feel that their time was too valuable doing nothing than spending it on the illogical hoops which the government no doubt places in their way with considerable zeal and gusto?

I dont let miniscule things bother me..if someone can get over on the government by every means show me and more power or perhaps I can teach you some of my tricks

Quote'' what is the point to report my address'' - I didn't realise it was optional

So you really conform to rules laid down by your host country, abusing he Ed visa ( no wonder genuine people are having problems) and a failing to report, when you get caught, for either of the rules you are breaking you will moan like a child.

You people really pose illogical childish arguments.. seriously if you are sheep and do and obey everything asked or commanded of you then great. We need machines that do rather than think for themselves.. I'm not you, I question, challenge, resist

"My time is too valuable doing nothing than spending it on government, illogical hoops."

If you don't understand something I assume you automatically label it "illogical."

"...have been on ED visas having never attended a school or taken a course."

Which is why obtaining the ED visa & extensions of stay is now far less easy to do. It's hard to believe your catalog of contempt for the law is anything more than a troll post, but your attitude certainly contributes to the enforcement of some of the hoop-jumping you complain about.

If Karma seems illogical to you, you could be in for a big surprise.

Well with all the ED scares I've read about, I found a law firm that will add me as a "consultant" for a non-im B visa (work permit) for a nominal fee. Karma is merely a human "feel-good" thing to stand in place of things we can't control the outcome too...and good or bad, we always find a way to make it fit out circumstances to ease and justify our minds at peace

  10. Put your foot in your mouth on this.. I'd just as well not lie to kids..it dampers that trust you should be building...this may have a lifetime affect and impact on her, being lied to by those you trust, misled.

What about religion? god? easter bunny? tooth fairy?

How can you put the topics of God and religion along with the Easter bunny and the tooth fairy?

Why not ? Not everyone believes in the immaculate conception, walking on water & other such myths.

    To each his own.

    Cheers..... Mal.

I see where this is going and know better to engage a thumper BUT I challenge you to watch the first part of this movie which lays it out so logically about religion...

Its all in the same.. hocus pocus...sant/easter bunny is to children what "god" and religion is to adults Its crap! its hocus pocus, make believe

  12. I intentionally put my USA passport in the microwave for 3-4 seconds to kill the RFID CHIP. Nobody is gonna track me, nor do I care to make it easy for immigration to save a few seconds as I walk and approach their desk. I'll wait.

Strikes me as illegal tampering with your passport.

I paid for it, I own it and I will modify it as I deem necessary to protect my safety/security. I havn't changed the identifying information nor am committing fraud.. aside from me admitting it here in this open forum, people wash/dry their documents daily by "accident".. so the dryer would certainly cook the RFID CHIP as well...

Now "illegal".. I'm sorry but I abide by my own laws and common sense. If a law makes no sense to ME, I can't be bothered

It is illegal to tamper with a passport in any way, and you don't own it.

It should be printed in the back that it remains the property of the US Government. I have a similar "reminder" in the back of my Australian passport and it is also in my wife's Philippine passport.

    http://www.law.cornell.edu/cfr/text/22/51.7

"A passport at all times remains the property of the United States and must be returned to the U.S. Government upon demand".

    According to this article:

    http://www.instructables.com/id/How-to-blockkill-RFID-chips/step4/How-to-kill-your-RFID-chip/

microwaving is the wrong way to destroy the chip as it leaves evidence and there's a risk of fire.

It would seem a swift blow with a hammer is the best way to do it.

Listen, not for anything but bla bla bla..I'm not the most law abiding citizen and sure theres risk in anything if you're an f'n idiot. I don't care.. I nuked it for a few seconds, heard a pop, have remains of a small scorch yet the US STATE DEPT website says it will still be valid if the chip doesnt work.. Sorry so sad I added a few seconds to someones job

Strikes me as a waste of time microwaving the passport so that your government can't track you.

I think the tinfoil helmet will make you stand out in any crowd!

Well I don't wear a helmet or play sports.

  16. It happens all over the world in every country right in front of our faces yet we don't realize it or have grown to accept it as the norm. Thailand is no different.

    IN USA:

    - certain resident discounts for local/state residents

    - senior citizen discount (age discrimination?)

    - ladies nights drink free (gender discrimination?)

    - children under this height are free (physical discrimination?)
