  1. Is there a specific bank in Thailand that is more farang friendly? I haut opened up a business account with K bank and it is difficult to find information on things such as why business accounts can't have debit cards, why I am still waiting for online banking details etc...the same things I think all of us deal with regularly when first becoming aquatinted with how Thailand works. I have my US business bank account and it's extremely easy to use. I call up the customer service, they verify my info, and fix my problems. It appears to me in Thailand I need to go to the bank branch I opened up the account at and bring my passport, business stamp, etc...and then find out that hey have no idea what I'm asking about.

Is there a bank that's better suited for farang business in Thailand?

  2. My girlfriend is due to have surgery soon to remove a section of intestine with cancer. The last time she had surgery she went into a coma for nearly a month. The doctors believe it was due to the anesthesia. Is there any other alternatives that I am unaware of? Perhaps things being tried in other countries? It is a very scary thing to have to be put under for a surgery that is mandatory and not know what the outcome could be. Willing to look at anything at this point. She is having the survey at a hospital in Roi Et.

    Thank you ahead of time.

Ask the owner for the chanote (the title deed) for the unit. If you want to be extra safe, go with the owner to the land office and verify there.

I agree to veleron. For me, the wisest thing you can do is to find a reputable company that has a legit offers. Make sure to do a background investigation. Ask also the company if they have papers to operate. I have known a friend that refer me to Marina One Residences @ Marina Bay. I already purchase a unit and I know they are legit.

Thanks very much guys! This is the info I was looking for!

    Cheers!

  4. Can someone clear this up for me please.

I knew Gen Prayuth was elected as PM, but for some reason I was under the impression that later in a few months Thailand would still have elections for the Thai people to vote. Is this not going to happen?

If not, does that mean the country is under marshal law indefinitely until a new PM takes office wether in a few months or even multiple years from now? Or is it not considered marshal law now because Gen Prayuth has changed from military office to PM office, as in he's only considered now to be PM?

I have been out of the loop for sometime, would just like some clarification as I don't pay extremely close attention to politics. Thanks.

  5. I really don't think this will last or come intro much of an effect. I remember going to the airport after this last coup has implemented a curfew. I asked the taxi driver(who was not supposed it be working but was) if he knew of any bars open during curfew. We found one and drank and are and then went to a disco that was open too.

Let's just take this with a grain of salt...

  6. I have come across an independent lawyer and also have sought advice a well know firm that specializes in helping foreigners register business and also helps American the with Treaty of Amity. But neither of them have been able to answer my question.

The question is, How much is required for the sole proprietorship to have in capital in the bank in order to acquire a work permit for the American that registered the company?

For a company limited to acquire a work permit for an american, it is required to have 2 million baht if unrestricted and 3 million if a restricted type of business. The company will need to have partners and employ 4 Thais for every foreigner, and pay taxes for them.

For a sole proprietorship it is the same for the 4 Thai employees and paying taxes, but it seems that it is almost undefined on the capital needed in order to acquire the work permit. Both attorneys I spoke with made it sound as if it won't be know until we really dive further into it.

I prefer to find out before paying an attorney for services, in case I would want to go with the Company Limited route instead of the Sole Proprietorship.

I am looking for some legal terms or something that I can bring to the attorneys I am in communicating with now, or either finding an attorney that knows for sure.

    Thanks for all the help!

  7. Well my friend as you can see from my post in has a smiley face within it and I also wished you luck.

Oh, sorry about that! I must have misunderstood your intentions of pointing out flaws and not contributing. I had no idea that you meant you were interested. Thanks for the hi-jack.

First: Twice I have posted from the iPhone app, perhaps the app needs to be tweaked.

Second: I believe I mentioned I don't post here often. Posted in General, it wasn't in another forum with a completely off-topic post.

Third: Are you contributing to this post? If not, don't discourage others and kindly move along as your reply has no point or relevance to addressing the topic.

  9. Yes this is blatantly asking, and if this is not your style, then please pass by this thread. I however believe in never leaving a stoned unturned.

Due to the number of partners needed in Thailand to form a business and also the capital needed to acquire a work permit for myself, I am looking to make some connections for a few things such as business partner and/or possibly a silent partner or 2. I am an American, so I can take advantage of Treaty of Amity.

I have produced films in the US and will be producing one here in Thailand in the coming months. I would like to form a Thai company here to support the film as well as launch a production company in Bangkok. I do have the know-how and experience and have made the appropriate connections and research here in Thailand over the past 2 years for this. In the last year I have also shot and produced 3 movies, with one of these already complete and having successfully screened at Cannes.

Link to the movie screened at Cannes: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v/qycleoxfDLc

    Link to my Cinematography Reel:

Any advice and/or help is much appreciated.

  10. The reason they want to clamp down on that and the electronic cigarettes is they are missing out on collecting the tax

That may indeed be true but in the case of shisha targeting student areas in mentioned, indicating a concern about health, and keep in mind shisha smoking is extremely carcinogenic.

Perhaps it's to do with the same reasoning behind the possible warning graphics/pictures proposed for alcoholic containers too?

  11. ive spent 10 years trying to find a 100% safe way to import my rare vehicles to thailand and unless youre thai and well connected then really, forget it.

it will arrive and some thai guys eyes will light up..........yours wont.

maybe if you leave some contact details in the car he could call you to ask you how to maintain it?

Yeah mine is a new body camaro...I suppose that would have the same result...
