There were places in BKK charging 10 per unit, 9 years ago. It's a racket, for sure. If you couple that with an older a/c unit; you basically are paying quadruple..even at 8 per unit.
BTW, maybe give www.chiangmainews.com a try for free classifieds...more local.
Cheers, I saw a place that wants a 1,000 baht booking fee... what the hell is a booking fee? This wasn't going through an agent.

the condo owner is getting the government rate.
Probably, you'd need to ask him.

Electric rip-offs are one of the main reasons i'm buying a place. 8 is double. You could easily use 600 in the hot season....that's 2400 out the window that could have paid for a week of meals and beer promos.
I've looked at about 12 apartments around this area, and this is what electric costs in condos. I only recently found out that it's half price in a private home.
Again, this is a cheap studio in a condo.

How much is electric and water per units.
Good question, I think the electric is 8baht per unit and not sure about the water, mine was usually 250 a month and there was 2 of us.

*NEEDS TO GO BY BEFORE 19TH*
Great studio apartment available- Rent, 4,500 per month.
I reserved the room, but have decided to take another place. New building, close to Chiang Mai University, 10 min on a scooter to Nimmanhemin & Maya Shopping Mall.
Features. 8 floor, small balcony with good view, small kitchen, AC.I've been in the building 4 months, at the back in a 2 bed. There's construction going on, so reserved a studio when it became available as a back up while looking for a bigger place, found one, so will just let it go, but would be good to get my 2,000 baht deposit back.
The building has 2 beds and studios, the studios go quick, as they're pretty cheap, if you're looking for nice room, in a nice building with a kitchen, cheap, then this is ideal.
The security deposit is 6k and one month rent, usual.
Needs to go by before the 19th. -
Sorry, should have mentioned I'm in Chiang Mai, not Bangkok.
Anyone know a Farang friendly bank in Chiang Mai?

Hi, I've been in Thailand since August 2013. I'm now on my second double entry tourist visa.
Can I open a bank account with this?
I've read some posts that say I can, some that say I can't.
Do I need a residency permit and if so, can I get one with a tourist visa?
It's a shame they make this so complicated.

I'm off to Bali in a few days. I'd like to get a Thai visa there. I've read online that I need proof of flight out of Thailand, but also read I didn't need this.
So, anyone know for sure?
If so, what's the cheapest airfare out of Thailand?
Cheers

I just moved here from China, was there for over 3 years... quite surprised at how little they speak English here, I thought there'd be more English speakers than in China... there's not.
They don't even show English movies in KSK anymore, they just dub everything in Thai... tragic... tried to buy some dvd's in my local 7/11... English movies, again, all dubbed in Thai...

You can do it by crossing at Mai Sai without any problem. Cost of entry to Burma is $10 or 500 baht.
Ok, cool, but is not for the burmese visa, right?

So I've a 60 day double entry tourist visa I got in Laos. Need to exit in 2 weeks, I'm in Chiang Mai.
I believe the handiest is a bus trip to Burma.
Can I travel in Burma... I heard that the overland crossing, you're not allowed... but that was a while ago... if I can, is it visa on arrival for Burma? Or I need to get it here first?
Cheers

Hi guys, new here, looks a pretty active forum
I just got to Chiang Mai 2 weeks ago. I'm looking into different visa options.
I believe an Ed visa doing Muay Thai is possible, can anyone recommend a decent school offering an Ed visa, and the costs involved.
Cheers
Booking Fee for apartment, no agent involved
in Chiang Mai
Posted
I was looking at an apartment today, and noticed on the agreement that there's a booking fee of 1,000 baht.
I've never seen this before... booking fee for what? I walked in off the street, there was no agents involved... showed a few mates here, they never heard this one.
Is this a new scam here?
