Citizenship has the same requirements as PR you still have to be working to get it....
Is it really necessary to have a work-permit and labour in Thailand to apply for citizenship? I pay taxes on my world-income here (pension and investment income from abroad).
I´m currently on a retirement extension. Also married with a Thai for 12 years.

Thanks 7by7 for making it clear.
Holland has exceptionally strict immigration ruling.
The strangest thing about this is that foreigners have more rights than the nationals of a country, quite the opposite from Thailand.
I actually considered moving to a neighbour country when I was nearing 50, but leaving a solid hi-paid job at that age is not easily done.
Now approaching 60 and much more financially secure, I took the leap and moved to Thailand. -
I'm a Dutch national.
Don´t know about other Schengen states, but my attempts to get a Schengen Visa for my Thai wife have been unsuccesfull for the past 10 years.
The refusals were always argumented by the high risk of illegal stay after the visits (officially called ¨residence danger¨).
I got fed up with it and moved to Thailand this year.

What if you just stay with a friend who ownes the place (no lease contract).
Would a copy of his/hers house book and id suffice as proof of address?

My problem is just never getting an OTP sms-ed. I´ve had the account since april.
Moving money in from abroad was very easy and it worked out fine to get a 1 year visa extension.
About 2 months ago I registered my Thai phone-number at my local branch in BKK, but never got an OTP-SMS on it.
I emailed Kasikorn about it and also contacted the call-center, but sofar no result.

Uh - 49% tax - where in Europe is that paid and by whom ?
Current top rate of income tax in UK is 45% (reduced from 50% a couple of years back). Add on National Insurance and the loss of benefits and allowances as your salary climbs, and you can easily give away half your salary to the taxman every month. Then you can add on the tax take if you have a company provided car and fuel card etc, oh, and not to mention 20% VAT and a green levy on your fuel bills.
And you can always look at what President Hollande would have you pay in France - he has promised 75% as a top rate of income tax.
Holland has 52% top rate, which already starts at about 55000 euro gross income. Depending on the tax-treaty of your income country with Thailand, there can be a huge fiscal benefit living here.

I´m just wondering about the validity abroad of an Amphur-registered will.
When I wanted to sell my house in my home-country, the transferring notary insisted on a notarized power-of-attorney document by an authorized Thai lawyer (to be signed by my wife).
Likewise to obtain a declaration of inheritance the notary will probably only accept valid notarized wills.

This is not uncommon in the west either. People used to come and go as they please there as well.
I´m talking about the south of Holland. The backdoor was always open. We called it ¨zoete inval¨, literally ¨sweet invasion¨.
Here in Thailand even in BKK lots of friends of my wife have the key to our apartment.
I´ve no problem with it at all, since I grew up with a lack of privacy.

I don't know about these reports of fraud. I do know that I've been using various Betamax affiliates for almost 10 years on a near-daily basis and nobody's scammed my cards. Just one data point.
Now you know.
The question is, would continue to use them (and sleep well)?
Never heard about any Betamax scams before. I´m using their services also for 10 years and many of my family members, friends and colleagues as well.
I´m not afraid at all continuing using them.

In reference to SIP, if anybody is using DialNow.com please comment on its quality/services.
Yes, I´m using it. Good quality connection and very cheap for reaching mobile numbers in Holland.

I think what is more interesting is that pick-ups have fallen to just 14.6%
Maybe because last year pick-up buyers could also profit from the first car buyer scheme.

Your wife should be able to be your guarantor to open an account. My wife has done it for me at Bangkok Bank. I had internet banking set up within hour after opening the account.I read this topic with envy.
It took me months to find a bank that would accept me on a tourist visa so that I could deposit 400k for my 1st Non Imm O visa (spouse) + Extension.
My second extension is being processed & I'm still continuously rejected for not having a WP. I'm in Bang Kapi in Bangkok about to move to a small town in Uthai Thani whose TMB similarly just turned me down.
As I have also been turned down for internet banking for the same reason, I face a drive of up to 5 hours every time I have to sign something at my bank (which is their preferred method of banking in the electronic age).
try K bank got my account on t visa about 4 year ago
Indeed, K bank. Got an account april this year without a visa, just the 30 day allowance.

I¨ve a Fysic FM-8800 phone here, that belonged to my 86 year old Mother in mint state.
It´s a big button, big font simple phone with a camera, specially designed for the elderly.
You can have it for free. I´m staying near the Huay Kwang MRT station, so easy to reach if you´re in BKK.

The double-taxation prevention treaty allows Thailand to raise taxes on 100% of my current income categories. Home-country 0%.
From age 67 onwards I will get an additional government pension. Only that part will be taxed in the home-country, not in Thailand. All well described in the treaty.
Still no answer to my question. Is labour and WP required for citizenship application or just paying taxes here?
