I'm getting close to blowing the hatch and punching outta here. When I finally blast-off of this rock, I'm never coming back.
Too many stupid laws. Too much corruption. No hope for this country and its people.
Let's face it: they don't want us here. They never did, and they never will. -
They changed the form so they can acquire additional information, such as:
Facebook account, Bank account number, Body-bag size (only for visits to Kho Tao), Fingerprints, Shoe size, YouTube account, High School GPA, etc, etc....
Furthermore, on the backside of the form you must write a short essay expressing your love for Thailand and what a wonderful country it is.
-
Three things that will improve this situation:
1) Police-car interceptors on daily patrol.
2) Soul-crushing fines for moving violations.
3) Mandatory sentencing for bribery (5 years minimum). -
I know this is true for international law, but I thought you wanted to fly domestic.
So-so? Could you say in Thai, "we're taking a detour because of thunderstorm is forecast"?
English is used in every cockpit, control tower and ATC facility on planet earth per ICAO (International Civil Aviation Organization) regulations.
If you used a VHF scanner at any airport in Thailand, you would hear THAI aircrews and Thai ATC speaking English because that is the only language that is allowed to be used. Thailand is a member of ICAO, just like every other country.
Back to the original subject: it would be fun to fly in Thailand, but they won't let me. -
Can you speak Thai?
My Thai language skills are so-so. English is the official language of aviation according to international law. -
I hope they will allow foreign pilots, like myself, to fly on domestic routes. Thais can fly for airlines in America, but Americans can't fly here. It's really unfair.
-
All the expats on here supporting the deportation of another expat should be careful for what they ask for.
Perhaps it will be you that is next.
They are coming for all of us.....you will see soon enough. -
What he did do was destroy the Kings Head on the coins. It is illegal to mess with Thai money by tearing it, or burning it or stepping on it as this is a direct assault against the Thai royalty. If they want to kick him out of put him in jail, then that is where they need to start.
I've seen plenty of Thai Baht shoved into g-strings (and other places) at Nana and Soi Cowboy.
The cops are going to be very busy if they decide to enforce this law! -
Where's the petition with 10k signatures asking the military to kick out that sick <deleted> that burned a 5 year old child? I swear.....Thais freakout over dumb shit!
-
yoh bro, doctor mans in the hood right man?
We stuffy old English teachers can't afford to get left behind now.
:)
The homeboys in the ghettos of London speak no differently. -
Your absolutely right, now go and get a glass of warder, and don't forget you have a docders appoindment on Sadurday.
I think you meant to say: YOU'RE absolutely right. The rest of your sentence was gibberish and I didn't understand it. -
Bastardized American-English, eh? What makes old world "Classical English" so much better? Can you imagine Thai students trying to learn that stuffy, elitist version of English all day long? That's comical! Everyone wants to learn the streamlined and efficient version of English: American-English! :)

You dont need the 400K in the bank, you can get a letter of income verification from your embassy to prove you make more than 40K a month.
A Thai does not get in the USA for free. a Tourist visa is $150 USD so only about 70% of 1 months wage for the average Thai. TFor a Thai to live in the USA long term youTo get a green card is about $1500 USD and prior to that to get a F1 visa you have to pay homeland security over $500 USD, plus visa fee. So not free.
You didn't read my post completely or you didn't comprehend what I wrote. I never said Thais go to the US for free. EVERY country has application fees and I don't have a problem with that. It's the requirement that you must deposit a certain amount of money in the bank, that you can never use, just to live with your family that I'm upset about. Thais do not have to do that when they immigrate to the US! Period! Also, you're a damn fool if you ever tell the Thai government how much money you make. That's why I use the 400k in-the-bank-method.....it's a lot easier and it protects my privacy.
The fees you quoted for immigrating to the US are infinitesimal compared to the opportunities for potential earnings and quality of life. Also, you get to stay there! Permanently! That's quite different than the crappy marriage visa they give you that you have to audition for every year! -

So what.... Life's not fair sometimes.Don't think there is anything stopping you from leaving to go back to America where you seem to think you will have a more privileged lifestyle.
Why are you so condescending, bro? Nah, nothing is stopping me from returning to the states. I'm a contract pilot and the only reason I live here with my family is because I work nearby and it's a short commute on my days off. Sure, life isn't fair, but agreements between countries should be! Should they not? Thais can immigrate to the US and they don't have to deposit 400,000 THB in a US bank just to stay with their spouse and family. I have to deposit 400k in a Thai bank just to hold one of their crappy multiple-entry-marriage-visas. 400k is chump-change for me, but I'd rather have that money invested somewhere else for better return$!!! So, what's the problem with me asking for the same thing a Thai gets in my country for free? This has nothing to do with living a privileged lifestyle in America, but everything to to do with fairness and my basic human rights. The right to be with my family.

Exactly this.
So many posters just like to piss and moan about anything the Thai Gov says, yet they seem to conveniently forget - they are in Thailands Play pen, play by their rules or bugger off.
Bugger off, eh? Expats get upset about these issues because there is no reciprocity between Thailand and their home countries. Thais have so many benefits and opportunities in my home country, the United States, than I'll ever have here in Thailand! It's simply not fair and this is a good forum to vent your frustration about it.- 2

Withholding important documents (ie: passport) from a foreign worker is a Trafficking In Humans violation and is against international law! 100,000 THB fine!? That's all!? Only in Thailand!
-
Um.....a Flying Ace is a fighter pilot who has shot down 5 or more enemy aircraft during battle. Sloppy journalism. Congrats to the pilot from Thailand! Great job!

^^^ My apologies. I've never heard of an airline being allowed to make scheduled flights under visual flight rules (VFR).
So at a minimum he was flying with visibility below what was legal for VFR, and didn't have or ignored the GPWS built into the plane.
I must learn to expect such "surprises" from Thailand. A scheduled airline flying VFR???
Cheers.
Airlines can operate into VFR airfields if it is specified in that airlines Operational Specifications, and approved by the country's aviation authority.

Thailand will have to devalue the Baht if it wants to stay competitive, especially if China devalues the Yuan even further, which it will. Thailand can't, and won't, burn-through its FX reserves defending the baht. They'll need it later in case things get really bad!
It's strange they would make an announcement like this right now. Perhaps they're having some
'capital outflow' issues...hmmmmmm?
My Baht forecast is: 1 USD = 38.00 THB within 3 months.

I haven't seen significant numbers of tourists in Chiang Mai yet. I was in Old Town last night; lots of empty bars and restaurants. Is there anyone else seeing an uptick in tourism?
-
They had underage girls working (slaving) in one of those factories. Jerks!

Aviation safety in the US is superb. The EU essentially uses the same rules and oversight methods as the US, with additional regulations that some operators in American consider 'overkill.' That's why I'm baffled the Thais passed their inspection.
I have to take issue with that. First, crashes among US carriers are extremely rare. Second, what the hell happened with the Lufthansa no-frills airliner with the suicide captain whose oversight was appallingly weak?<deleted>!? As a former airline pilot, I can assure Thai Visa users that the EU is more strict than the U.S. when it comes to aviation safety. How in the hell did Thailand pass the EU inspection after the U.S. busted them down to category 2? Earlier poster is correct: Airbus or Boeing?

Wow! The airlines will freak out when the farang-aviation-experts start grounding their airplanes! This is going to be entertaining to watch.
The Thai Government will most likely hire a company such as DynCorp Int. to do the inspecting. They can hire the experts quickly. Will Thailand spend the dollar$ that it will take to make this happen? We will see.
