  1. They changed the form so they can acquire additional information, such as:

Facebook account, Bank account number, Body-bag size (only for visits to Kho Tao), Fingerprints, Shoe size, YouTube account, High School GPA, etc, etc....

Furthermore, on the backside of the form you must write a short essay expressing your love for Thailand and what a wonderful country it is.

  2. I know this is true for international law, but I thought you wanted to fly domestic.

So-so? Could you say in Thai, "we're taking a detour because of  thunderstorm is forecast"?

English is used in every cockpit, control tower and ATC facility on planet earth per ICAO (International Civil Aviation Organization) regulations.

If you used a VHF scanner at any airport in Thailand, you would hear THAI aircrews and Thai ATC speaking English because that is the only language that is allowed to be used. Thailand is a member of ICAO, just like every other country.

Back to the original subject: it would be fun to fly in Thailand, but they won't let me.
  3. What he did do was destroy the Kings Head on the coins. It is illegal to mess with Thai money by tearing it, or burning it or stepping on it as this is a direct assault against the Thai royalty.  If they want to kick him out of put him in jail, then that is where they need to start.

I've seen plenty of Thai Baht shoved into g-strings (and other places) at Nana and Soi Cowboy.

The cops are going to be very busy if they decide to enforce this law! ;)
  4. You dont need the 400K in the bank, you can get a letter of income verification from your embassy to prove you make more than 40K a month.

A Thai does not get in the USA for free. a Tourist visa is $150 USD so  only about 70% of 1 months wage for the average Thai. TFor a Thai to live in the USA long term youTo get a green card is about $1500 USD and prior to that to get a F1 visa you have to pay homeland security over $500 USD, plus visa fee.   So not free.

You didn't read my post completely or you didn't comprehend what I wrote. I never said Thais go to the US for free. EVERY country has application fees and I don't have a problem with that. It's the requirement that you must deposit a certain amount of money in the bank, that you can never use, just to live with your family that I'm upset about. Thais do not have to do that when they immigrate to the US! Period! Also, you're a damn fool if you ever tell the Thai government how much money you make. That's why I use the 400k in-the-bank-method.....it's a lot easier and it protects my privacy.

The fees you quoted for immigrating to the US are infinitesimal compared to the opportunities for potential earnings and quality of life. Also, you get to stay there! Permanently! That's quite different than the crappy marriage visa they give you that you have to audition for every year!
  5. Exactly this.
So many posters just like to piss and moan about anything the Thai Gov says, yet they seem to conveniently forget - they are in Thailands Play pen, play by their rules or bugger off.

Bugger off, eh? Expats get upset about these issues because there is no reciprocity between Thailand and their home countries. Thais have so many benefits and opportunities in my home country, the United States, than I'll ever have here in Thailand! It's simply not fair and this is a good forum to vent your frustration about it.

  6. ^^^ My apologies. I've never heard of an airline being allowed to make scheduled flights under visual flight rules (VFR).

So at a minimum he was flying with visibility below what was legal for VFR, and didn't have or ignored the GPWS built into the plane.

I must learn to expect such "surprises" from Thailand. A scheduled airline flying VFR???

    Cheers.

Airlines can operate into VFR airfields if it is specified in that airlines Operational Specifications, and approved by the country's aviation authority.

  7. Thailand will have to devalue the Baht if it wants to stay competitive, especially if China devalues the Yuan even further, which it will. Thailand can't, and won't, burn-through its FX reserves defending the baht. They'll need it later in case things get really bad!

It's strange they would make an announcement like this right now. Perhaps they're having some

    'capital outflow' issues...hmmmmmm?

My Baht forecast is: 1 USD = 38.00 THB within 3 months.

  8. <deleted>!? As a former airline pilot, I can assure Thai Visa users that the EU is more strict than the U.S. when it comes to aviation safety. How in the hell did Thailand pass the EU inspection after the U.S. busted them down to category 2? Earlier poster is correct: Airbus or Boeing?

I have to take issue with that. First, crashes among US carriers are extremely rare. Second, what the hell happened with the Lufthansa no-frills airliner with the suicide captain whose oversight was appallingly weak?
Aviation safety in the US is superb. The EU essentially uses the same rules and oversight methods as the US, with additional regulations that some operators in American consider 'overkill.' That's why I'm baffled the Thais passed their inspection.
  9. Wow! The airlines will freak out when the farang-aviation-experts start grounding their airplanes! This is going to be entertaining to watch.

The Thai Government will most likely hire a company such as DynCorp Int. to do the inspecting. They can hire the experts quickly. Will Thailand spend the dollar$ that it will take to make this happen? We will see.
