I have been told that at suvarnnabhumi Airport the automatic passport check gates are now in service again for Thai nationals. Previously PR holders were able to register to also use them.
A nyone knows if this possible again and what is required to do so?

- In certain cases, German citizens may apply for dual nationality, allowing them to acquire foreign citizenship while retaining their German citizenship.
There are some exceptions. Looking for someone who has been able to maintain German nationality and acquired Thai nationality

I have German passport and PR for more than 6 years. Is there anyone out there who has first hand experience with getting Thai nationality and NOT relinquishing German passport?

Immigration assume that everyone knows what a genuine tourist does.
They probably have too many cases of people in the past coming in on tourist visas but actually doing things that are non-tourist.
That said, they shouldn't have approved the METV at the point of application instead of coming to Thailand and getting it rejected. It just isn't fair.
Any country reserves the right to deny entry at the border to someone who was granted a visa. Thailand is not an exception. Thais have been suffering the EU visa application process for years. Not to mention the UK and US processes who are even restrictive
For decades westerners have been getting away with staying in Thailand for long
periods of time in ways that in none of our home countries are possible.
Have you ever heard of a visa run to Switzerland? Now that Thailand starting to crack down on this long-standing abuse people cry “it’s not fair”
I really don’t get it.

If they ask for it simply give it to them or look for a different company.
The insurance is tied to a bank loan I took out so not easy to change company.
In any case I consider this discrimination and in breach of the Gender equality act in Thailand if indeed this is applied to gay customers.
Has anyone had similar experience with Prudential or other insurance company here?

My husband managed the comms with them in Thai. Nothing to hide

I signed a contract for life insurance with Prudential not having to give any medical information. Now they are calling me to get an HIV test done after they found out I am gay.
Anyone has had similar experience?

Sorry to hear, but thanks for the feedback. I have no further ideas at this time.
Again tried today at area after E Gates, same issue, scanner cannot read passport data.
I think I will just get my passport full

Any other German passport holder still faces same issue as me ?

Good luck at arrivals next time then.
By the way, I have used Fast Track at Departures many times, but it's run by VFS now. Last time, the lady refused to let me in, stating that PR does not give me access, but BOI would. Dunno.
If you get in to Fast Track, after security check there is a small door that connects Fast Track and general area, so you can go to the auto-channels there.
Last week I tried again to get my German passport get set up for auto channel, this time at immigration desk at fast track arrival. Same story my passport data page cannot be read.
I think I will give up now and wait until I get a new passport....

I always mention BOI at Fast track, they look at my re entry permit in the passport and let me pass. They never ask for BOI letter.
Thanks for the tip on connecting door. Now I just need to get my pp set up for autogate.

There are several places at Suvarnabhumi were you can register. Some may have already gotten the new machines that can read the new German passport, others have not. Where it worked for me:
1.) Departure, the immigration office (after passport control) that is closer the lower check-in row letters (i.e. the left one when your back is to the road). There are two computers with passport scanners in that little cubicle, at least one of them can read the new German passport.
2.) Arrivals, Immigration 2 (Fast Track). You have to ask the immigration officers (before passport control), because that one cubicle where they scan your passport is not usually manned. It has one scanner, and that works.
That is, if the problem is that the scanner cannot read the passport. If there is another problem, please let us know. The reason why I know that two machines can read it is because there was another problem when the passport could be read first time.
In what you describe under 1, the cubicle at departure immigration area, where you come out after using Fasttrack, which BTW you can also use no problem with PR, is the one they tried in my last attempt yesterday. It was the IO together with the guy from the IT vendor who tried for 45 min. Will try arrival area next time.
I wish they had an auto gate at fast track ( and I could use it) that would be perfect

Tried again yesterday to register my (not so new anymore) German passport. Again no luck. 2 years since I have got it. Fo those that were able to get it registered what did IO do differently?

This is great news.
Did the IO mention any software upgrade done? I have not been able to use auto channel ever since I got new German passport 18 months ago.
The issue always was to get the new passport details updated in the system in that little room they go into between the two autochannel areas at departure. I did not even get to test at the actual AC machine.
So updating your PP details went all smooth with you then
Congratulations.

It hadn't been fixed two weeks ago, but I had a long chat with the IT guy, who also talked to his office several times. There were two possible reasons why the "new" (not so new any more) German passport couldn't be read, one was software and the other one hardware. If it was the software, it is possible that it has been fixed in the meantime.
In any case, please do try and apply for the e-channel. If nobody tries, they think there is no demand. Kindly update us here. I would also like to ask all Germans who are interested in using the e-channel to try and apply every time you fly. Feedback in this thread would be appreciated.
I just tried again with latest German Passport to register for Immigration auto-channel usage. No luck, still the same problem that I heir system cannot read the data-page
I chatted with IO a bit who said whenever a PR cannot register due to system issue he tells the airport rep of the company supplying the system to immigration.
Very nice and polite IO but unfortunately could not help.

Hi have been having the same issue with my new German passport as well since Oct last year. System cannot read the data page when trying to set up new PP. Also being told that SW update is "coming" since then.
Very frustrating especially that at the manned IO stations there are no more queues for "Thai passports only" when leaving. When arriving I ALWAYS go to the right for VIP, BIZ class, special needs. Never got any questions or problems doing that
I have now gotten new white book aka residence certificate, re-entry permit and endorsement with same German passport.
Does anybody know if the problem of echannel SW not being able to read latest German Passport data page has been fixed?
I am so looking forward to being able to re-register to go through E gates at BKK (after being able to with previous passport)

Now that Chinese can use auto-channel at Suvarnabhumi immigration, have they done a system upgrade that fixes the issue of not recognizing German and other new generation passports?

Has any German passport holder of the new latest passport version has had any luck with going to immigration eGates at Suvarnabhumi?

I registered with my previous passport in September 2016 and got a sticker in the back of it but I never managed to use the auto channel. When scanning the data page of my -German- passport the gate would open but upon scanning my finger a 'data error' would pop of every time. I tried it a few times, endless discussions with various IOs at Suvarnabhumi, their IT department and also Chaeng Wattana. Finally I was advised it was a general problem for the machine to read German passports (?).
I got a new passport a month ago (new design) and Chaeng Wattana -upon stamping my new non quota visa- advised that generally Immigration at Suvarnabhumi had been making a mess of data entries for auto channel applications for PRs. They provided me with a print out from their system highlighting in yellow the crucial parts the IO would have to enter.
Leaving Thailand one week later I tried to update my data after passing through immigration. It took an IO about 30 minutes but he couldn't update my information as the machine wouldn't read my passport according to him. The IT guy was called in who advised that the auto channel gates generally have a problem reading the new German, US and Hong Kong passports. According to him they are waiting for a software update but he couldn't tell me when it would it would come. Traveling to the EU, US and also Singapore (going out) non of the auto gates or readers ever had any problems reading my passports.
Highly frustrating as especially going out -if not traveling in business class- there can be long ques at immigration. Coming in is of course less of a problem as you can always swing right and use the manual counters for Thais and special needs. Any other PR having similar problems?

Possibility for legally doing remote work
in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits

I am considering a job with APAC scope with a foreign company without any presence in Thailand. No need for a visa as I am permanent resident here.
How might the authorities view this in terms of WP and tax requirements?
