  1. Google translate to German works well. Print out a few questions in German of the information you want to know (big print) or surely our german speaking members can post some up. Such as...

    Where are you from?

    Where do you live?

    You want to help?

Sounds like a chap I knew who fried his brains on drugs by the way....

That's a great idea , the only problem is understanding what he answers smile.png

Well you can also print answer answer cards he can point to (list of countries etc....)

  2. The magazine was interesting sometimes although the adverts were always out of date. The problem with it is that it is a tool for the parent company, an SEO business, to pick up leads and if you advertised there you were bombarded with calls from the SEO firm there after.

  3. I'm rather concerned by this, although of course with these typical PR stunt broadcasts you never know exactly where you stand. I am MD of my business, 49% shares, and 51% in wife's name. She also works full time for the business in our rented office. We employ 3 staff in Pattaya and a further one in Bangkok. It was 5 until recently but we had to sack a couple for being rubbish. We are a real business, no cars, homes, condos etc are owned through it so it should pass muster. We make a profit, paid about 1m baht tax last year and don't squirrel money offshore - we live here and spend/ invest here. Even so, I am in control of the company 100% despite a minority share holding.

Reading the limited news reports, and seeing how the corrupt useless government departments operate here already, I have more or less decided to sack the staff and leave Thailand. I am completely bored with it all. Every month there is some stupid pedantic letter from some stupid department or other asking for some loose change. So many hoops to jump through for my license, needlessly of course. The country is a rot and although I have made good money here, I might as well live and work in another country and keep taking their money, but this time, not paying their taxes, not jumping through their stupid hoops, and not sitting around waiting to be next on the hit list.

  4. reiterate that about not paying what the agents say. My house is advertised as available at a price 50% + more than I actually pay. The house across the road is being advertised at a price 30% more than the owner is looking for. I assume agents get commission from the rental price so they always charge top dollar. Cut them out of the equation and go searching yourself. If you see a house you like but only has an agents sign on it, speak to a few neighbours and you will soon get the number for the owner.

  5. Part of the problem is that he goes by several names. I know him as Naelon and first used him when his shop was in the small shopping strip on Klang going towards Suk after Big C (Carefour). He then moved to Chaipuk to a showroom near the Sukumvit intersection, but has since disappeared

On the road by the auction on East Pattaya Soi Chaiyapreuk 2, Jomtien, Fluent English, and really very very good.

He's great. Sunny? Is that his name?

    0868359925 - here's his number - highly recommended.

Turn left from Suk onto Chaiyapreuk 2. ABout 50 meters on the right hand side - he's in there.

  6. There are a few places on SSC but they are all near the suk side.

On the back roads there are other places but these are not nice - would be amazed if a farang would stay in them. If you know SSC, past the two markets heading to the golf course, there is a 7/11. You turn left to cut through to the rear of the reservoir, or turn right which takes you to Nurmplubwan. Along this road there are a few places, but they are a bit ghetto.

  7.

+1 for Wanttana and you can park your car/truck next to the shop (for free).

This but I may try out this Sunny fella if he does house calls

Might be tough - he's wheelchair bound. If you can take it to his shop. He's a great guy and well worth supporting.

  8.

Its not about rain - they are keeping the reservoir empty (with enough for center water only) to dredge the the reservoir and to rebuild the surrounding area. The idea is that all around the lake will end up like the picnic section which used to be opposite the bars near Khun Johns restaurant.

The result will be that it will hold more water and be more of an attraction it seems. It is causing nightmares for people who use village wells which are not that deep.

For those around here getting water delivered, I suggest you tell the guy you want Center Water and not their brown well water. The cost difference is they pay 6 baht for 1000 liters of well water and 25 baht for 1000 liters of center water. Best to follow them and make sure they do fill up from the center though....

Are you actually serious?? You're suggesting that we go out and follow the water man?

Back on planet earth, how come you know so much about this?

I am. When you don't you end up with brown water coming out of the tap, and I prefer to have water from the center on Mabprachan. It's hardly a chore - if I need to drive to 7/11 or something I would tie in water delivery with that just to cclock eyes on the guy at the top of the lake filling up from clean water from the center.

Back on planet earth.... why all the agro?

  9. I'm never quite sure who bothers to read these books written by farangs about their lives in Thailand. On amazon there are thousands of them, and it seems to me that half the times some guy in a bar has been told "you should right a story about your life" and they therefore think it is a good idea and do. This is all very well, and writing is a very joyful pursuit, but you do need to have a modicum of talent to begin with, and a story worth telling.

Take for example, the OP book. A book about some guy from Europe falling in love with an older thai lady. Sure that might be a story worth telling to his kids, but is anyone else actually interested? I might lend him an ear for 3 minutes in a pub before getting bored, but I would not buy a book about it, and certainly not invest $1500 to get this published, not least because who would buy it?

Don's book about scraping a living in Asia. What are people buying in to? Imagine you are in a book shop, pick up the book (the artwork and cover would need a lot of work to get that response in the first place) and you read the blurb about the author, selling you a book about being an entrepreneur. You might expect him to be writing from his castle in the Alps and see a load of brand names he has launched onto the world to make his billions. However, no, he is a successful shop owner with a shop in chiang rai and in china. This is not an entrepreneur as the book buying public would expect. On Amazon, we are told "From 30 years in the orient, Don has met thousands of people as customers and business associates. These relationships and experiences are brought out in detail in this book. From love to heart breaks in the Orient this book gives you the insight into both business and love life in Thailand. The lovely sexy women in Bangkok are captivating and can easily take control of your life."  This is the same for about a million other people. Why are your relationships and experiences any more special than someone elses? Tell the reader that on the blurb, and you might get mire bites. The suspicion would be that they are not. They are special to you, but they are not interesting to other people especially if it means they have to pay cash for it.

I don't think the OP is serious though about his book. The figure he wants is what he has calculated he would need to sit on a chair in issan for a year or two and thinks other people will pay for that. Test your book out, OP. Make people pay to read your blog. $2 a year - they can see the head lines, but will have to pay to read the content. Then see if your stories are worth paying for.

  11. Sunny does not charge you to look at the computer by the way.

He is one of the Father Rays lads, and is very good. He needs the work to be honest, and what he managed to achieve is to be applauded in Thailand. If you are on the dakr side or Jontiem, then give him a call.

  12. Umm how about adopting a lovely little doggie instead? Something that is supposed to live in a house rather than a wild animal? Something small, an older one, teach the lad about the throw away culture of thailand and how it is good to take ownership and responsibility. Or a older cat, only a few years left?

Buying animals in Thailand not such a great lesson to teach a kid, where as adopting animals, especially the older ones with less hope of finding a new home, teaches very positive things. I would guess you might even find a squirrel or sugar glider in the adoption centers as well is you look hard enough - the country is crawling with animals bought from the animal shops and chucked away as soon as the owners gets bored with them.

if you can not find a shelter with what you want, then try to 2nd hand adverts - at least buying an older pet from here will prevent that animal being flushed down a toilet or what have you in the near future when the owner is finally bored of it and lost patience trying to get their money back,
