  1. My head teacher told me I could go to Laos to get my paperwork done.

Well, I just arrived and the Thai embassy officer told me I have to go to immigration.

That's a long trip for nothing.

The thing is, under certain circumstances won't they give you the work visa?

I'm entering Thailand by land and heading to immigration. Is there anything I should known before hand? Do they want a certain amount of days left on my visa before I apply for the permit.

I really hate wasting time and resources.

  2. My friend was telling me that if you are getting a legitimate work permit then it is mandatory that you be paid 50,000 BHT a month along with medical insurance and other benefits.

Is this true? I am getting my work permit to teach at a public school but I am not getting 50k or medical insurance.

Is the employer trying to cheat me? Are there really requirements with getting a work permit?

    I am confused.

  3. For all those people saying 8k will last a few months, do you spend all your money on sex or something?

With a budget of $8k for even 3 months wouldn't buy you any sex, other than street meat. A relatively basic furnished apartment in central Bangkok is $1500 a month and chances are it won't even be serviced. You can get cheaper but I don't want to live in a slum. So you're left with $1100 for the month to spend, 35,000 baht let's say, which is nothing if you're the type who enjoys a good single malt whiskey and or half a bottle of chablis with his sea food dinner. After a trip to the gentlemans barbers, a few pints of 'boutique' craft beer and after paying your dry cleaning bill, there won't be much left for taking a decent woman on a date.
My apartment in Phrom Phong cost 10,000 baht a month. What are you talking about?

It's been (sort of) fun reading this thread up until now...but you apparently already live in Bangkok, OP? Then you already know if one can live on 20,000 baht/month, don't you? If so, please share with the community how you do that with a 10,000 baht/month rent payment. Thanks in advance.

In 2013 - 2014 I lived in Phrong Phong. It seems every month I spent around $1200 or so. This time around I have less resources and want to make them stretch.
