  1. Guys, I have just come in on the back end of this bun fight and haven't read all the replies. But I am really interested in the possibility of spouse/partner visa for Australia being available to be done online.

I managed to get a tourist visa for my wife and stepdaughter who are both still in BKK while I am here in Aus. and did this all online without any hassle and got the visa's approved in about a week.

I now intend to apply for a spouse/partner visa but am concerned about doing it all myself in case I stuff it up. I was going to use Siam Legal but because of a few things which I don't want to go into here as they are sponsers on this site I decided not to use them.

If it can be done online then I might have a go, but do I have to wait until she goes back to Thailand before I submit it or can I do it while she is here?

They will be coming over in 17 days for a period of about 2 months, and as the waiting period is anything up to 12 months I really want to get it started soon.

I would love to get feedback from someone who has "been there and done that".

    Thanks Guys

  2. If you are registred with Bangkok Hospital, they will record your GPS position, so that the ambulance will always easily be able to find your home. In case of emergency, they will send a motorbike-ambulance ahead of the ambulance, if first aid is needed.

I have never heard of or seen an Ambulance Motorbike in BKK. Other countries including Australia have these and they are real lifesavers. In BKK with all the traffic problems it would definitely be better than waiting for an ambulance to eventually turn up.

I am an ex-ambulance officer from Australia and seriously considered setting up such a system with all the advanced resus. gear onboard such as Defib, adrenalin, maybe oxygen (but that's a contentious issue at the moment) etc and epi-pens.

All on a larger size motorbike, this would be a first response situation while either we waited for an ambulance or a taxi or whatever. In the case of a heart attack a simple thing such as a defib is so very important along with bystander CPR done properly.

I even wrote to insurance companies with the idea so it could be a selling point for Expat companies and their workers in BKK.

But for it to work there would have to be a membership fee if done outside of an insurance policy or if the insurance people took it up it would be incorporated in the policy.

But the insurance companies weren't interested so that was another idea down the drain.

Maybe one day it will happen.........................

  3. Thanks David, I do appreciate your advice as I am very confused as to what to do.

Maybe you're right and they should come here first for a couple of months. I'm working 7 days a week to try and get a decent place to live and enough money for air fares.

As you will know it's so hard being separated, I just want them here now.

I'm worried that if they come here on a visitors visa the daughter can't go to school and my wife can't work so they'll be bored silly while I'm working all day. Unless I get them into a language school but that's expensive. O/k just thinking out loud here.

    Thanks mate.

  4. I have already answered your question on the other post, what don't you understand or want to know? PM me if you want.

Thanks Surin, for your answer on the other thread, now I'm thinking I will forget about the visitor visa because I have to wait until school hols in March for them to come for 3 months and go back again.

I might as well start the partner visa application now and be ready to wait at least 10 months for it to come through.

  5. ... another question while I'm here, I want to get a spouse visa for them, can I do that while they are here? I know it can take up to 10 months and I was thinking maybe I can do a tourist visa first and then extend that for 12 months.

Another problem is I want to get the daughter into school and I'm not sure if I can do that on a visitor visa.

    Thanks mate

    Steve, I'll take that one.

Firstly, to get a tourist visa, the applicant has to prove a compelling reason to return to Thailand.

Often, and I do mean often, with the Visitor (Tourist) Visa there is often a 'No Further Stay' provision.

That means, unless there are exceptional circumstances circumstances, the Visa holder must exit Australia when the Visa expires.

So, best to remove the thought that your Partner will get a Tourist Visa then, while in Australia, apply for a more substantive visa to remain.

Relying on that, you would be in for a rude shock.

As for getting your step-daughter into school while on a tourist visa ... in a word ... NO

The step-daughter has no rights other then that of being a 'Tourist'.

There is no such visa as a 'spouse visa'.

There are now Partner Visas ... covering both a Married applicant and one in a De-Facto relationship.

How long do Partner Visas take ... read this ... aussie-partner-processing-wait-times

How much do Partner Visas cost ... read this ... aussie-partner-visa-to-cost-more

I've just seen that Kris has posted so I'll cease now and read his words ...

Thanks mate, ok so it looks like they will have to come over for 3 months in the Thai school holidays, go back and apply for a partner visa.

I'll be waiting until March for that to happen, so maybe its best to forget about the visitors visa and start now with the application for a partner visa.

    I haven't seen Kris post.

  6. AussieSteve, yes you will need to do separate applications.

Thanks Surin ... it's not a question I knew the answer to.

    .

Yes thanks Surin, another question while I'm here, I want to get a spouse visa for them, can I do that while they are here? I know it can take up to 10 months and I was thinking maybe I can do a tourist visa first and then extend that for 12 months.

  7. Hi Guys,

I have been reading through topics on this and have p.m. a few members but am non the wiser.

My Thai wife is still in Thailand I am in Australia, I'm filling out her 1419 visitor visa but am not sure if her 13 yr old daughter needs a separate one. There is a space on the application for family travelling with her but I suspect she needs a separate application.

The intention is to get them here on a visitors visa while going through the process of a spouse visa so they can stay here.

    Thanks

Cypress ............do you know why I put the expression "ok guys ready for the flack" because I'm the realist. (as you propose to be)

I know there are bitter twisted people on this forum that are ready and waiting to just put people down and lord it over everyone else. Arrogant people who brag about how good they are, usually are the opposite.

So I was expecting these type of comments to come from a certain part of this forum. There are people like this all over, even in Australia I try to avoid them because negativity breeds more negativity.

You have a lesson to learn in humility.

If your original comments (that were taken off the thread by the moderators) were made face to face here, say over a beer in the pub ( as this type of comment could be made) you would be out on your arse on the street.

As I have previously said ............... why are you on this forum if all you can do is be so negative.

If your original comments (that were taken off the thread by the moderators) were made face to face here, say over a beer in the pub ( as this type of comment could be made) you would be out on your arse on the street.

Really, you sound like one of those front bar seven day a week guys who is quite happy to knock back piss while his mrs plays pokies with all the other Thai rif raff.

Morphet Vale Tavern Sth Aus, sat there one time while some guy was talking shyt about Thais and sin sot and paying money to mama every month, my brother turned to him and said you are talking shyt, gobshyt said you dont know, brother said ask that guy he is married to a Thai.

Gobshyt went very quiet, give these girls their due, they usually tell the truth, jer gan tee nai, tee bar ka.

Gobshyt losing face, pissed of a farang could speak Thai, never mind the BS met her on the BTS.

The only guy out on the ass on the street was the gobshyt, forum rules prevent me naming and shaming him.

His name is N and he is married to a BG from CM, another two week millionaire tossa.

Good story, the difference between him and me is that I rarely go to the pub, I never complain about my wife or her family, check out my previous posts I complain more about farang and have supported many things that Thais have done for me.

What I was saying is if anyone insulted an Aussie guys wife face to face he is asking for trouble. Pointing out that what is being said by a certain person feeling safe on the internet he wouldn't get away with saying up front in a public place.

But he seems to have succeeded in bringing me down to his level so I'm not responding to any more intimidation.

  10. I think you should be fine, she will have the daughter and you there for company. I think thai women tend to feel a bit lonely used to a lot of friends and family back home. You're taking a chance on her and hopefully it will all work out okay. It's going to be a big change for them.

From my experience they are happier in their own country, but is probably willing to sacrifice a few things for a better future.

    Good luck

Thanks mate.... nice to get some support here.

  11. ^^ Mate ... Haters are always going to Hate.

I read it also .. thus appreciated when it was removed.

    Well done MJP ... thumbsup.gif

    Hater??!!

    I'm no hater, mate. I'm a REALIST.

Importing women from Thailand when there's a considerable age gap is a seriously bad idea.

If the OP thinks he was anything but the best available at the time, there's no hope at all.

The minute she has more options, then poof, she'll be gone.

The guy should head back over here, try to live within his means and stay with his wife

I often wonder why people like you are on this forum.........is it to help, no........................... is it to tell the world how good you are, yes............. is it to give positive assistance to the inexperienced, no................................... is it to say,"I've been there mate and I know for sure whats going to happen", yes.

As I said before why do you bother writing such negative comments,......................... you are a real bundle of joy.

Are you a happy person who is content with life...... I don't think so. Well keep all that frustration and unhappiness to yourself and stop trying to make everyone else unhappy.

  12. I happen to have read that post before it was kindly removed, the poster has such a negative outlook on life he must be a real pleasure to be with.

This forum is about helping people overcome a problem they have because of their inexperience. That's why we rely so much on the experience of the longer standing members, which has been such a tremendous help to so many people me included.

Such negative comments from a poster like this doesn't help anyone, except maybe the posters ego, and lack of self respect.

Again thank you to all the helpful advise from the members here, and to the poster with a attitude problem..... why do you bother................?

  13. I've just finished reading the financial requirements for a visitors visa, and it states my wife must have sufficient funds in her account to prove she can pay for her stay here.

They don't say how much....... another problem is there have been examples of people applying for this visa who have put 300,000 baht into their account for this situation, or someone else has put it in there for them, and have been rejected because in my wife's words "they thought it was put there just for show"

She got this off a Thai website.

Has anyone had an experience with this financial requirement?

    There is no set amount.

If your partner cannot afford to fund the holiday, you can "sponsor" her.

Tick the box on the application and provide payslips, a group certificate or a bank statement.

    It's all here:

Hi Will27, thanks very much for that reply and link, my wife will be very relieved she is so worried about that as she has been reading other posts on Thai websites.

  16. Thanks guys, lots of good replies here, with different points of view. I've had P.M.s and phone calls really helpful thanks to all those people, always good to hear from and talk with positive people, as opposed to some of the usual negative responses that I often read on here.

At this stage I want my step-daughter to get a decent education and be proficient with her English. I'd like my wife to get to know Australia and improve her English skills, and all of us to be together as a family.

Then maybe later we may end up moving back, who knows. I like to remain flexible in my thoughts and actions.

The main point of this post was to hear from people who have gone through or are presently going through the same thing. They've all left Thailand for different reasons so let's not get too involved with the reason why they or I left Thailand as some posters are focusing on.

Again thanks for all the information that you have given me.............. now where did I put that Glenfiddich?

  17. I appreciate the information that you all have sent me, I think I was a bit naive to imagine it would only take a few months.

My plan now is to call my wife and get her to come across with her daughter on a tourist visa during the school holidays there so they can see what Australia has to offer. Meanwhile getting the paperwork together.

    Some good links thanks guys.
