    I regularly go to Patong beach and leave phone on chair in bag whilst swimming and always worry about this happening, as usually feel very safe.

    Yes the Japanese tourists would have been to polite and probably first time in Thailand to query cost until thinking about it later.

    Why wouldnt one of the police use Google translate? i would never use a motorcycle taxi that far, so many shuttles run this route.

    I find Thailand to generally be a very safe country to live in, i have wandered around on my own all hours of the night after watching rugby world cups etc. and never felt threatened.
