  1. Hi all,

    I need some advice ......

I live in Thonburi on a small private soi in a rented townhouse. Some 6 months ago an open-air restaurant commenced business at the top of the soi. Each evening, they have live music from about 7pm to 1am and then recorded music until 6am! The volume of the music is intolerable - it's like being at a live concert at Muang Thong Thani!

Despite calls to the restaurant and the police by my friends and neighbours, nothing has changed. They continue playing the music so loud that I can hardly hear my TV and certainly can't sleep at night (until 6am! sometimes!!). The Thai neighbours, whilst complaining about it, won't do anything as they just accept that the restaurant owners are paying off local officials and police to turn a blind eye!!

I really don't want to move again as I like the house and work nearby.

    Any ideas???? :D

    Try Petrol bombs, works wonders.

When I first moved in here the lady next door had the music up so load I couldnt hear my TV, the first day I went to complain but my Thai GF said we do it the Thai way, next day same shit so I told her we will do it Tony's way>> Bashed on the door told her turn the F###### music down. Tha was two years ago and I havnt heard a peep since. F### doing it the Thai way it dosnt work,,, Now go and get some petrol bombs!!!!! :o

  2. The thing I fail to understand is during this Govt crises in Thailand where the election was null & void and we have a caretaker govt in power the Baht got stronger where as I and I think many others thought it would get weaker, so was it being bought up by the central bank or is the Thai economy really that strong.

Like I said before the Thai economy is heading for trouble. The Thai people are living way beyond their means new cars, houses etc etc all on the never never right up to the little guy buying a motor bike on 1,000B deposit. I hear plenty of repo motor bikes up in Issan.

Im no genious and all of this is only my opinion based on lifes experence and a gutt feeling.

For me its a wait and see situation and Im not changing any money unless necessary.

    Cheers Tony :o

  3. If you have been paying Australian tax all your life, you deserve a pension.

If not, tough titties. Usually expatriates avoid paying Australian tax, and earn a lot more than they did in Australia.

Yes I have paid income tax in Australia all of my life and now the Govt wants to screw pensioners evert way they can.

So Wamberal your just a f*** wit and dont know what your talking about. :o

  4. I currently have one computer with adsl connection thru a USB modem. I've recently added another computer and would like to connect that to the internet. What are the simplest options for connecting the 2 computers to the internet as well as sharing files between the 2?

    Thanks!

I assume both computers have LAN connections.

Buy a cheap LAN hub, 10Mb/s is quite fast enough,

or even use a crossover cable between them.

In your network settings on the second machine specify the machine connected to the Internet as the "Gateway".

This is exactly why I suggested the OP should buy a modem/router.

You get these facilities for very little extra cost.

I bought a USB Modem. I now have it all connected and running. Just want to thank those who took the time to help me.

    Cheers Tony :o

  5. Western union money orders received in Thailand must be deposited into a Thai bank account and wait about 6 weeks before you can draw on it. W.U. Money transfere are instant.

    Cheers Tony. :o

Thanks a lot. What are Western Union Money order fees to every dollar? I know the transfers are very high, I think 30 dollars to every hundred if I'm not mistaken (30 percent) I assume a money order is much less????

If this is going to be an ongoing thing the best way to do it would be with iKOBO. All info is on their site.

The only thing I know about WU is they are very expensive. I think iKOBO charge about 4%.

    Cheers Tony.

  6. Thanks for assistance. Its not as simple as registering and returning as son as your pasport is swiped the info goes back to Centrelink and you are automatically cancelled ..if only it was that easy. Just had the same conversation with Medicare when I returned. So looks like special apeals etc . The Australian Governement has money coming out of its ears at the moment and they still persist with this nonsense. Australia the lucky country but only if you are a refugee or a life long dole bludger.

They are giving all of this money (Millions $ ) to other countrys in SEA but the Aussie pensioner gets screwed every time.

Sparkles Are you having problems with medicare also. I would be interested to know about that as I havnt been home for 4 years.

    Cheers :o

  7. Maybe.............. :o

Depends on what your next question is going to be.......... :D

Just read your other post think i can work out the question............if johnq can't help you pm me.

Still open but moved further south on 2nd road.

  8. The above are all wise words, but Yeti said it best. If you plan to use your connection for online gaming or file sharing, it will be easier for you with a USB modem.

I use the same type of router as Astral, and know how to forward ports, but I would not recommend it to somebody who does not like fiddling with their gear.

I only use a USB for transfering pictures from my Camera to the computer and also have a scanner conected to one.

    Cheers Tony

  9. - a router allows you to connect more than 1 computer and some have an integrated firewall, but they can be very difficult to set up for some applications to work (forwarding ports).

For most applications port forwarding is not an issue.

If you do need it, we can walk you through the configuration when the time comes :o

Thanks to everyone who has taken the time to reply. I think I will buy the D LINK USB modem if I get into any trouble I will let you know, once again Thanks.

    Cheers Tony

  10. This is mostly done on a case to case basis. When you apply if you dont get the answer you want ask to speak with a social worker and see if they can sort it out. You always have the right to appeal any decision they make. If after that your still not doing any good see a lawyer and perhaps your local member. If you receive your pension never ever leave Australia without notifying Centerlink first, they say they liked to be notified 6 weeks before you leave. If you dont let them know they will cut your pension on the next pay day. Also always let them know within 24 hours that you have returned, you can do this by phone but its a good idea to report in person. You can have your pension payed direct into any Australian bank and withdraw it here with your ATM card. Its always a good idea to have two accounts just incase the ATM card stuffs up or somthing. Best of luck and dont take any shit from them.

    Cheers Tony. :o

  11. This comment worries me....

Why do you need dosh to make friends? and what scenario should I be aware of? I have to ask here as I would ( knowing my luck ) find out the hard way.

Now listen up sunshine>>> If it flys, floats or Fcuks Its cheaper to rent and thats the truth. When you come here keep your eyes and ears open and your wallet closed dont trust the Thais and never ever trust the foreigners. After you have been here for 24 hours contact me and I will take care of you for a small fee but let me know your coming for sure so I can arrange my work permit.

PS : Dont buy anything you cant fit into your bag. :o

  12. I had reason to use DCO yesterday as I needed a new Graphics Card. I thought the service was excellent. They do not carry a lot of stock like Wattana or Tukcom but value for money combined with prompt service gets my vote. :D

Yes Chopper, and I also think you will find they can get you virtually anything at 24 hours notice, at a much cheaper price than either Wattana or Tuk Com. They bring in orders for BKK almost every day.

I ordered my new top of the range desk top on a Sunday, and virtually everything had to be ordered from BKK and built on site, and it was ready for collection on Tuesday. Can't beat that.

As you say the personal service (Khun Narong) is excellent. :D

No I don't have shares in it - I just like the guy. :D

Yes DCO is the best I have found in this area and Narong is a true gentleman. I have very little knowledge of computers and Narong has always helped me out. He was one of Father Ray's kids in the orphanage. There is also a computer club meets there on Thursdays at 5PM, I havnt been there for a long time so check at the shop and see if its still running. :o

  13. I have a Dlink DSL-G604T Router which does an excellent job.

It has 4 wired ports and also gives wireless support, but this can be turned off if not required at the moment.

As Im slower than the usual dial up when it comes to computers. I only have one desk top computer, so what would I need just to keep it simple. Would I need wireless and 4 ports ect ect and how much do these routers cost??? :o

  14. Does anyone know of AA meetings near Mae Sot, or perhaps the closest meetings to Mae Sot?

I'm will be living in Mae Sot for the summer and am in search for local AA people, if anyone knows of any contact info that would be greatly appreciated

    Thanks

    magnolia

    Hi Magnolia, Check your PM.

    Cheers Tony

  15. Thank You very much for the informative replies, I will research the posted info further. My trip to Thailand will be around July 2006, and I can post my expierences and findings for those that are interested. And if any more want to add info to the subject, I will check for future posts.

    Again, Thank You

There is a orphanage run by Father Giovanni a priest from Italy. He does some great work with these children who all have HIV Aids. The orphanage is located near Bang Chang. The URL for the orphanage :http://www.camillian-rayong.org/

I went to the orphanage last week and now they have 45 children there. When ever I go to see Father G and the kids I always feel greatfull and lucky that all I have is a few aches and pains from Old age. If you have the chance to visit this orphanage they will make you feel most welcome. This is a picture of Father G and some of the little ones.

  16. Can anyone give me a name of a doctor/specialist in the Pattaya area who has good experience with HIV patients

The government run Chonburi Provincial Hospital (c. 45 minutes from Pattaya) has a specialist clinic caring for HIV/AIDS outpatients.

The 'Anonymous Clinic', as it is known, is run by Dr Chureeratana Bowon. She is a renowned expert in her field and speaks perfect English.

Call 038 274200-7 and ask for the clinic.

Dr Philippe in Soi 10 off Beach road will be your best bet he has some connection with Dr Bowon and also connection with Satterhip Navy Hospital. Its very important to get onto the meds as soon as you can. To find Dr Philippe going up soi 10 from the beach you will see a large green gate on your left just go in there and wait at the front door, his clinique is open after 2PM Monday to Friday.

Good luck mate and I wish you well, this can happen to anyone of us.

AND NO I DONT HAVE IT.

    :o
