The alcohol bans are being enforced. A bit anyway. Quite a few arrests over the past few weeks.
Haha. You must not actually be in Bangkok right now.

Does anyone know if foreign proof-of-vaccination will be accepted at restaurants and bars? (I'm having a hard time thinking waitresses are going to be approving English, Chinese and Japanese vaccination apps / papers)
How does this work exactly? Anyone have any idea?

Question: How would this have worked for foreigners vaccinated outside of Thailand anyway?
So if I have a proof-of-vaccine card from the USA -- what happens?
Would I somehow need to show that card to some authority in Thailand and get a local vaccine app / card or some other local proof?
Or would I show a foreign proof-of-vaccination here in local restaurants?

Well to start with, Sinovac only ever had 50% efficacy based on WHO results. So that was the lowest to start with.
Then there is this:-

And Pfizer has a paltry 42% efficacy against Delta.

Pattaya doesn't have the nice beach to attract that crowd, and Phuket is expensive, and firmly controlled by the Thai mafia, particularly for land transport.
Also, and most importantly, the younger crowd are even more tech savvy than the generation before them, so you will not be selling them lady drinks and bar fines for someone they know they can can dial up on an app and to meet in a bar.
So, for "lady bars" I can only see higher drink prices, as tourists "bring their own" to the bar. Nightclubs may need to raise prices a little as freelance numbers will be down.
Who knows, bars might have to have a cover charge for bringing your own Thai lady into the bar, like a corkage fee for bringing your own wine to a restaurant. ????
Even bars not peddling bar girls were struggling, along with restaurants and small guest houses / hotels.
In my opinion, Pattaya will still be the sex capital of the world for tourist, but the product (sex / companionship) will be presented and purchased in a different manner, which will main be online. It was going that way before covid.
If it's just going to be online, then Pattaya will be no better than any other city in the world. Nobody is going to travel here for the outcall options.

That's a lot of daily cases.
Are restaurants, malls and cafes closed in Rayong, same as Chonburi?
Or still open?

I'm going to be the doom guy on this thread, I'm afraid.
My guess is "never" -- or at least not within the foreseeable future. I don't think this "pandemic" has an end. Looking at the international data from California to Australia to the UK, I don't see much reason to suspect there is a stable plateau of zero infection on the horizon. (Not that "zero infection" was the original goal -- but it certainly appears to be now).
The mutation rate appears to be a matter of weeks, and the efficacy of vaccines looks like it's a matter of 3 to 4 months at best. Infection rates are disturbingly high among the already-vaccinated.
The spike in cases in the UK, Israel, Malta and other high-majority vaccinated countries suggests that this virus is simply not going to be defeated in any long-term, sustainable sense by vaccines. Needless to say, Big Pharma will sell us (or our governments, at least) on the idea that the reason the vaccines aren't working is simply that we need more of them, more frequently. And we're going to need digital restrictions to make sure we comply.
Vaccine passports are coming -- which is another way of saying that a permanent state of travel-restrictions is coming. Yes, travel will be possible. No, I don't think travel will not be impulse driven, hassle-free or enjoyable -- or affordable for nearly as many people as it was before.
The new normal is greatly reduced travel, and a return to national, in-country travel for most people around the world.
One possible upside though: I think the era of massive group-tours might be drawing to a close. 1000 Chinese people crammed into a sightseeing coach seems like a recipe for Covid outbreaks and might make life difficult for tour operators.

I've seen / heard a few people mention that quarantines are required when moving from one place within Thailand to another.
I can't seem to find a single source which explains exactly how this works though. (Let alone how it's enforced). There also seems to be some disagreement between some of the things I've read.
Is this true? Are quarantines required within Thailand for region-to-region travel?
If so, can someone explain exactly from where-to-where requires a quarantine? Or is there a resource online somewhere that explains this?
Thanks

There are many more forces than tourism to consider. For one if your debt is dollar denominated, reducing the value of your currency means a nominal rise in debt levels. Likewise, imports of everything from steel and other raw materials to microchips increase in costs.
Oil importing countries (Thailand is only partially self sufficient) will also see a rise in oil and petroleum byproduct costs (which, being input costs, ripple through the supply chain quickly -- and ultimately raise food costs too).
Keep in mind that despite the misplaced beliefs (wishes?) of many on this forum, tourism makes up less than a quarter of Thailand's GDP (22% pre Covid). Thailand is an advanced economy which is mostly services/banking and industrial manufacturing from high tech to automobiles.
Agriculture is just 8%

I was allowed "roof time" for an hour per day, although the pool was closed. Roof time was basically an opportunity to go for a brisk walk, doing laps of the roof. I walked for pretty much the full hour every day, and it made a big difference.
It might depend on where you're doing your quarantine though. Bangkok might be stricter than other places, as it's designated a "deep red zone". (?)
But to answer your question: This is the first I've heard of zero roof time. Seems odd.

Biology doesn't care much about money.
Biology does care if you wipe your ass with your left hand and wash your clothes in sewage water. You should spend some time in poor countries.
Hint: This isn't one, relatively speaking.

Why should it "ravage" (your word) Burma and Cambodia, but in Thailand it's just "sick for a week"?
Is this a serious question? Why are you lumping Thailand -- a comparatively wealthy, upper middle-income economy with poor countries? Per capita GDP in Thailand isn't just double or even triple that of Burma... it's nearly 6x what it is in Burma.
And then there are 100 other metrics you could also look at, including food hygiene, sewage treatment, toilets per capita (this is a huge deal btw), education level, personal hygiene, contact tracing, smartphone penetration, hospital beds per capita, doctors per capita. etc.
It would be completely crazy if Thailand did as poorly as its hick neighbors.

Thinking about heading up to Bangkok this week. Can someone let me know the current status on gyms, pools, fitness centers etc?

In my experience Kimchi helps get your gut back to where it's supposed to be faster than yogurt. You really have to eat a ton of yogurt to make any difference. Plus... if you've ever tried to make yogurt from yogurt, you know that the "active cultures" claim isn't always true.
Kimchi that's been in the fridge for a couple weeks and is super fizzy/carbonated is of course the best, but any good kimchi with active cultures will do wonders for getting your gut flora back in balance.
Plus... it's easier to snack on kimchi all day than it is to eat a ton of yogurt.

So we need a few more months... in order to achieve a large campaign... let's say december.
Then it will be clear that... it's absolutely not a game changer : "Covid cases" will continue to popup.
Unfortunately, this makes a lot of sense. Vaccines -- at least the ones available now -- will not make much of a dent I'm afraid. As it stands now we're seeing new variants pop up every few weeks. And the "95% efficacy" sure looks questionable.

Anyone have an educated guess? Or better yet, some inside scoop from a somewhat reliable source?
When do you think / hear bars will re-open?

I've heard a couple stories of cars getting stopped and turned around.

No. And that's the problem. You have people from a hundred different countries coming to Bangkok.. the "proof of vaccination" thing is going to be chaos if they actually try to enforce it.
