  1. well the PAD doesn't have the budget to bus people in ... certainly not from KK ... and The Opposition parties have had no rallies/protests. As for the chick with Sondi ... care to post a link about the firing for dishonesty?

Think broader. Money dun have to come direct from PAD itself, There are many vested interests from many sources, maybe not all of them are Thai! I know my good friend (whom I talk to everyday) means a PAD rally - specifically the last one that took place.

As for that lady, her dismissal is a quiet affair and kept internal within the company, cos they dun want to destroy her future (many Asian companies do this). Mostly only her colleagues are aware. I dun think it is published anywhere. But u had watched her on television in a particular Singapore News channel and she suddenly was replaced, u will understand why.

  2. Wonder if any folks here know the lady (Miss Sarousha) who is often seen at rallies with Sondhi Limthongkul, local media mogul turned arch critic against Mr. Thaksin. She was dismissed some years back by a TV station in Singapore for dishonesty. I know that cos, I happen to know her personally

Also I was told by a very good friend in KhonKaen that the opposition parties are offering people 800฿ a day to go and attend their rallies in BKK. And all this time, they are accusing TRT of doing that?

While I am not supporting any partiucular party, I can see the progress Thailand has made as a whole, and yet the very people in BKK who beneifitted are making so much noise and joining in the protests. Hmm what will happen if the economy goes down badly again? Will they do the same thing?

  3. Well, I've decided to share something with this forum that may help you with learning Thai.  This is page one of a seven page cheat sheet I've made--this page includes most of the basics for reading Thai.  It assumes you already recognize the consonants and are familiar with the transliteration used by Benjawan P Becker (in the Thai for Beginners, etc series).  This sheet is not perfect and any additions or edits would be appreciated, especially if some of the Thai language experts could take a look at it.  For some of you it might be a good idea to use the zoom feature on excel to look at the characters.  I'm pretty comfortable with most of the stuff on this sheet already, but I do tend to use it when I get stuck on the tone of a word. I just figured maybe it would be a good aid for some of you.

    Enjoy!

PS...It's an excel spreadsheet...just unzip first

    ThaiCheatSheetv12p1.zip

Cool. really concise. Will study it as I am in the process of trying to remember the tone rules

I can input all the special fonts used by Mrs Becker {e.g., ʉ and ɔ} (not normally on our US keyboard) as I have modified my own keyboard to type those characteres. I will modify it a little and post it back here as soon as I can find the time

  4. I fully agree with u tayto , hope we will find some new frinds and share some ideas no matter what. unfortunately im new to this forum but im not new to the area , so its feel nice that i just find it now for future shares of ideas .

Can I take that from your nick, u are in Phayao or at least somewhat related to it?

I hope to be there as soon as possible, by this year, heavens willing. Thinking of going into farming too, with my wife-to-be. Any advice?

  5. Hi,

My finace and I are looking a nice piece of farmland in Phayao. I have seen it for myself and it is near the highway and water supply source. It is now a Lumyai (Longan) fruit farm. We intend to purchase it for farming of another higher yield fruit (that js growing fast in popularity in Thailand and other countries. They can even be grown between the current lamyai trees.

It is about 200+ dtaa-raang-waa (ตารางวา) in size. How much would that cost typically in Phayao?

  6. I enjoy sending and receiving Thai language SMS messages with my wife - a great way to practice reading/writing Thai.  But the Thai characters on my Nokia 7200 are VERY small!

I accept that more experience of the language will help me to identify whole words, rather than trying to identify each letter/tone-mark etc.  But it still would be helpful if I could find a mobile phone that displays the Thai letters (in SMS), larger than the norm.

Anyone know of a good mobile phone make/model that can do this??

    cheers - Simon

I am quite happy with the Sony Ericcson Z600 I bought when I was BKK. Plus Input Language and Menu Language are separated so I can be typing a Thai sms and switching to English with T9 support on the fly. No change of OS language needed.

  7. I have had the dictionary published by Paiboon Poomsan Publishing before until I lost it a few months ago...which I found fine..

I was going to replace it, and whilst looking on the net to order I came across the Robertson/Tuttle one...

So which one do you reckon is best... ?

I have included the ISBN numbers in the poll as I couldn't put much of a description in the Poll fields..

    totster  :o

For those who own a Palm PDA consider this

    un-clie.gif,

It is the Paiboon Poomsan dictionary in digital form. I have been using this literally everyday since Aug2003. Can't go without it. For more info, see Thai-English English-Thai Dictionary

  8. Thai temper rage, very dangerous,is it unique to thais or all of asia?.

    :o

Being a nation of Buddhists it seems surprising that they often react like this, although storing pent up anger and all the mai pen rais may be a precursor.

I am amazed that u guys can make such statements. Don't shooting scenes from pent up frustrations and hurts also happen outside Asia?

I will never forget the day some years ago when my American friend came over to Singapore for a business meeting and he heard on the radio about a shooting incident in his son's schoo in Denver where someone was killed. I could see the panic on his face as he frantically tried call home. Fortunately his son was safe.

  9. :o  it is really funny to read this forum to be honest.Cant stop laughing. I am

Thai and it is quite good to hear some opinions from farang who got thai wife. Hope you dont mind if there is a new face to join the forum.unfortunatly she is Thai.  :D

Vrsushi, we want to read all you have to say. I'm bored silly sometimes with

Farang point of view, and welcome a new person. By the way, I love the way

Chingy writes his posts; to the point, simple and funny.

I am fortunate to be able to speak English and Thai well, as my tirak is Thai. These "jokes" have all but disappeared fior us since we starting conversing/smsing in thai all the time now :D

Can see the humor on both sides. haha.gif

  10. Even the people there told me that AIS would be better and DTAC would not work. Then I took their phone, put my DTAC SIM in it, and showed them the stronger signal they had with it, still 2 bars where AIS was just getting 1, and even that only with the help of an external antenna on a 10 m high post

Surely this depends on where you are. I was staying in Chiang Mai in the mountains recently and nobody could get a mobile signal. By chance one guy found a small area (about 3 square meters) where for some reason or other we could get a reasonably strong AIS signal. None of the others (DTAC and Orange ) could use their phones.

Anyway up until about 1 week ago I didn't have any complaints about AIS, but...... now things seem to be getting worse. My voice box is acting strange. Sometimes I just get loud static noise, sometimes I press "1" to listen and nothing happens. On top of that I have had many many "error in communication" messages or "network busy" the last 5 or 6 days. What's happened to AIS?

Seems like both AIS and DTAC are having problems these few days, both with calls and SMSes. And the reason they gave was Equipment Upgrading. Which is the reason they often gave when there are similar problems. Why are they upgrading all the time? Every few weeks!

My thai gf uses both AIS & DTAC, DTAC is cheaper indeed but there are some areas upcountry) where there is little or no DTAC signal, whereas AIS still has 2-3 bars. I experienced it myself at her mum's Phayao home where there is a 2x2 sq meter area at the balcony where I can get 1 bar and none else where. Or I walk a few minutes to the road and I can get 2-3 bars for DTAC.At her granny's home in Phrae there is NO DTAC signal. Even for AIS she has to walk around in the house to locate a place with better signal.

Having said that, she still prefers DTAC and uses AIS only when DTAC dun worked.
