  1. I got married in Thailand in 2016.
i also registered the marriage in Sweden, and in 2019 we moved there.
But the marriage ended in 2020, and we divorced in Sweden.
My ex-wife is still in Sweden and have not been in Thailand since entering Sweden in 2019.
I have been looking for information about how to get the divorce registered in thailand too, but it's very confusing with conflicting information from various parties, the information from the Thai embassy in Sweden and the information from the swedish embassy in Thailand is conflicting, so I don't really know what to do.

    The thing is:
I have a new girlfriend in thailand and have a one year extension based on 800,000 baht in the bank.
And in case I pass away I would like my girlfriend to inherit everything I have, not my exwife.

Is it possible to solve this problem simply by registering a will in Thailand with my girlfriend as sole heir ?

Or am I forced to find a way through this jungle of requirements, so I can get the divorce registered in Thailand ?

I can add, that it is not likely that my exwife will go to Thailand anytime soon, it could be years before she eventually goes there.

Anyway my girlfriend and I don't plan to marry other than a buddha ceremony at her home, so I just want to be sure who inherits me.

    Dont worry.

All good. You will receive stamp around 11th. Being a Saturday just go in Monday 13.

Don't worry about your Feb 14 date.

That stamp will give you 90 day permit.

In the last 30 days of that permit apply for your extension.

The extension stamp will be issued on the day you apply.

No under consideration period for the extension.

    You are all good.

So I went to Immigration today to find out, if I could get the visa.

Normally I never go to immigration on mondays, too many people for my liking, but today I had to go.

And yes, I got the 3 month Non "O" based on retirement, the stamp showed the visa was issued on 30. January, so I am admitted until the end of April.

So in the beginning of April I will apply for the one-year extension.

    Thanks to DrJack and blueeyes

I appreciate the answer and hope, that you are right.

The worry is because, in theory they could reject my application, but maybe that does not often happen..........

Of course I brought a letter from the bank stating that I have more than 800,000 baht in my account, so no reason really for them not to grant the visa, I guess......

  4. Hi all,

    I arrived on December 2nd 2022 on a 45 days exempt.

I was planning to apply for a 3-month Non-imm "O" visa, but I missed to apply within 15 days before the end of the 45 days,

so I had to pay for extra 30 days, which gave me permissinon to stay until February 14th.

On the 20. January I applied for the 3-month Non-imm "O" visa [Retirement] at immigration in Khon Kaen.

I thought, that Immigration could give me that visa the same day I applied, but instead I got a stamp on the backside of the receipt

saying "application of stay is under consideration, applicant must contact immigration office again in person on 11. February"

Ok, I payed the 2,000 baht fee and the officer asked for another 100 baht for "coffee", so 2,100 baht

I just checked the date when I was back home and found out, that the 11. february is a saturday, and I think Immigration does not work on saturdays !

So today I asked my girlfriend to call Immigration to ask, if I could go on the day before, also considering, that my 30 days run out on the 14. February, so I wont have much time to leave Thailand, if for any reason my application is rejected !

According to my girlfriend he told her, that:

"I could only go to immigration after 11. February and there is no late fine for foreigners",

    whatever that means.

    I am wondering:

Is it normal, that such an aplication is "under consideration" ?

I am a bit worried, that the decision is so close to the last day, I am allowed to stay here,

    so any advice is appreciated.

  5. Hi all,

I am considering buying a new pickup, specifically one of the two brands mentioned in the headline.

Has anyone else had the same thoughts and what result did you end up with and why ?

I am interested in the top specification models, however I only want 2-wheel drive.

Last week I test drove the Ford Ranger Wildtrak, and I really liked it.

But I am a bit worried about Ford Thailand regarding their service to customers.

I haven't yet found a Toyota dealer here in Khon Kaen, that offers a test drive in the Hilux.

  6. Hi all,

I just heard this today, and I really hope, it is just a rumour and not true.....

A foreigner here in Khon Kaen told me today, that Immigration from now on demands, that you are insured during your entire stay in Thailand on a Non-Imm "O" visa, and also later, if you stay on a one year extension based on retirement.

I don't really believe it, but since I just arrived in Thailand and am about to apply for a 3-month non"O" and after that extension for one year, I would like to ask, if anyone else have heard about this ?

    As I stated earlier.

Your friend most likely is referring to a ME non O based on marriage.

That visa is valid for 12 months and allows entries that are given a 90 day stamp.

    No mystery.

Yes, I read what you wrote, but I don't like to be guessing.

But I suppose, the "ME" stands for multiple entry ?

And can you tell me, where to get such a visa ?

This acquaintance, that I am referring to, is based in Sweden, and the thai embassy there directs you to the E-visa page, I linked to earlier.

Can you find "your" visa there ?

    No.

No such thing as a 90 day multiple entry visa.

12 month multiple entry visas are issued in Savannaket but most other places will issue single entry visas

Perhaps your friend could post a picture of his visa.

I already asked him to do that, but he wouldn't. ????

That is why I got suspicious.....

You have 2 options (assuming you have an Australian passport)

    1. Enter visa exempt, which stamps you in for 30 days, then get another 30 day extension for a total of 60 days stay. This will require a trip to immigration.

    2. Get a tourist visa, this will stamp you in for 60 days. No trip to immigration needed,  but need to apply for and get visa  pre-departure.

The tourist visa can be extended for 30 days to a total of 90 days with a trip to immigration. So if you want the flexibility of possibly staying more than 60 days that would be the best option. If you are certain you'll return in under 60 days either option works for you.

You could enter visa extemp to get a 30 day entry that can be expended for 30 days at immigration. You might asked for a ticket out of the country by the airline to board you flight to here (one way ticket to anywhere or a onward flight from a site offering them for about $12)).

Or you apply for a single entry tourist visa that will allow a 60 day stay. You would apply for it at the Thai embassy in Canberra or the official consulate in Sydney.

If one arrives visa exempt, what requirements must be met to get the extra 30 days ?

It looks fine to me.  The only potential problem is the names on the booking confirmation. I suspect all the paperwork will be in his name - really there should be 2 separate booking confirmations - 1 for each passenger. If all the paperwork is in one name, acceptance will be up to the check-in staff.

When they each enter the booking number in to their Passenger Locator forms (PLF), they are checked for authenticity - its also possible that the number on the form has to match the name given - if there's anything wrong the form won't complete.  If the numbers are entered and the form moves on to the next step, to me that would mean that everything is OK and in a sensible world, that would be enough.

My opinion is that if the PLF completes - all is well but I'm not check in staff.

I suggest he gets to the airport very early so there's time to discuss any concerns the check in staff may have.  If you were asking me 'will the forms be accepted in the UK' I would say yes.  The whole point is to ensure that the tests are booked.  If both booking confirmations are in the same name - your friend will just have to hope he goes to a check-in desk staffed by sensible people.

    Thanks for your reply.

When we ordered the tests, we could select how many we wanted.

It was only possible to enter one name though, and I think that is purely for the purpose of shipping the tests to the proper address in the UK.

Since there are two numbers, there is a unique number for each of them to use in the PLF, and since this booking number is checked right after you type it, I would suppose, it is sufficient.

Is there a requirement to attach a booking receipt to the PLF or to show that in the airport ?

  11. I hope, the original poster don't mind me adding a question about booking the two tests for day 2 and 8....

My english friend and his wife is travelling to England tomorrow on a KLM flight, and since he is very worried about all the paperwork involved getting to England I helped him booking the tests.

I wish, I had read this tread first though...

We managed to books the tests, pay for them and got online confirmation and also confirmation by e-mail.

But the problem is, my friend is so worried, that he won't be allowed to board the plane tomorrow, because he thinks, he need to book two more tests !

This is the confirmation, we got after payment, would you say we booked correctly for two passengers ?

  12. Hi all,

I am planning to travel to Thailand soon to visit my girlfriend and other friends, that I haven't met for a very long time.

I would like to stay for a long time (even I know, that the situation with the pandemic is getting worse by the day), but unfortunately I have work to do in Europe later, so I cannot spen more than 2 month in Thailand this time.

But that leads me to think, that I probably do not need to get a visa ?

    Questions:

Is the max. allowed visa exempt stay of 30 days for scandinavian countries still extended to 45 days ?   (due to the 15 days ALQ quarantine)

And will it be possible for me to go to Immigration and extend my stay for a further 30 days ?

After the ASQ hotel stay I plan to go to Bang Saray near Sattahip. A friend of me rents a house there, and since he is away from Thailand for a few months he has invited me to stay there, while he is away. He has informed the house owner, that I will be staying there, and the owner agreed to that. (owner working outside Thailand)

The last couple of years I have read a lot about reporting on form TM30 to immigration, but I have had yearly extensions of stay for many years and have never had to use a TM30, but it seems that the rules has changed or immigration has started following the rules. (my last extension ran out in 2019)

So next question is, will this TM30 reporting apply to me, and if it does, can I report myself, since both the house owner and my friend are not in Thailand ?

Finally a question about driver's license:

My thai driver's licenses ran out in November 2020, and since my friend has said, that I am welcome to use his car during my stay:

Will it be possible for me to renew my thai driver's licenses, when I stay in Thailand visa exempt ?

    All help appreciated !

    It's not true.

Your ‘friends’ wife will need insurance (i.e. travel insurance)................

    Thank you for the answer.

At this moment I am not sure, what type of visa she has, I just know, that she got the visa to accompany her husband to the UK, they used some agent to help them get the visa, and this agent indicated, that it would be possible to get an extension in the UK, if they needed it.

Personally I think, his stay will be more like one year, because, as far as I have read, the NHS is really overloaded and has been so for a long time because of the pandemic, and millions of people are waiting for treatment because of the pandemic.

You will not need a criminal record check to apply for a certificate of entry (COE).

You apply online for it. See: https://coethailand.mfa.go.th/

Probably easiest route is to enter visa exempt that allows a 45 day entry if you qualify for one. It can be extended for 30 days. Or a single entry tourist visa. With either of them you can apply for a non-o visa at immigration.

Is it really so, that you can apply for a non-o visa in Thailand, when you have entered Thailand visa-exempt ?

I remember some 12-14 years ago I used a tourist visa entry to switch to a non-o visa, but I never heard of the above being possible.

Has the rules changed, or is it my memory, that lets me down ?

Only 1.2 per cent of Sweden's 120,000 tests last week came back positive, data from their national health agency shows, according to The Guardian, that's why.

Their 14-day accumulative total of new cases is 22.2 for every 100,000 inhabitants, compared to 279 in Spain, 158.5 in France, 118 in the Czech Republic, 77 in Belgium and 59 in the UK.

All those countries imposed lockdowns in the grips of the pandemic in March but Sweden opted for a lighter approach which now appears to be paying off.

It is even outperforming its Scandinavian neighbours, Norway and Denmark, suggesting the Swedish approach may have helped them in the long term.

Amazing how the countries with the strictest lockdowns and mandatory masks have the highest case numbers, whereas Sweden, with no masks and no mandatory lockdown, does not.

You forgot to mention the very high death-toll in Sweden, almost 6000 so far, so all-in-all their scandinavian neighbours have done far better !

Not a problem. Have him write a statement that you are living in his house with signed copies of his house book and ID card attached.

Is your wife registered in his house book? If yes all that is needed is her house book.

Yes, my wife is registered in his house book.

I am asking, because of all the turmoil about the income letter from the embassies.

As I have used that until now, I find myself in a situation, that I don't have the needed 800,000 Baht in the bank right now, so changing to a marriage extension would mean, that I only need to find 400,000 Baht for my next extension 1. March 2019.

I have also been thinking about changing to use my other passport in the future, but maybe I will postpone that. Right now I need to find a way to stay in Thailand until the end of April 2019, at that time I will travel to Europe and prepare the sale of my house there.

  18. 4 minutes ago, lopburi3 said:

You would just put that as the reason on TM.7 and your normal passport/copies and arrive with account paperwork, wife, extra photos that are required for marriage extensions (normally 3 or 4 with one sitting on bed and another together at entry with house number), her ID/Home Register and copies and whatever your specific office may require.  Normally not much different than normal retirement - but someone has to return in a month to get the final stamp.

Will it be possible to do such a marriage extension, if my wife and I are living in my father-in law's house on the top floor and him living downstairs, in other words, without having a rental agreement ?

  19. 3 hours ago, ubonjoe said:

The will acknowledge you have 2 passports.

But they would not allow you enter the country using a passport that does not have departure stamp from the other country. It you departed Thailand you would not be able enter Laos unless the passport you were using did not have a stamp for Thailand in it. Same for when departing Laos and enter Thailand.

Many people have tried and had to go back to the other side of the border to get a departure stamp from the other country.

No problem by air since immigration do not look for the stamps.

I will fly, even I hate that!

Two hours ago I wrote: "I will fly, even I hate that!"

But since I really really hate to fly, especially domestic flights and short flight to neighboring countries in Asia ( I am a safety freak about flying), I am still thinking of other ways to get this Non-O visa.

So I did a search on getting a non-O visa in Thailand, and found information about using a TM.86 or TM.87 to get one.

TM.86 seems to be for change of visa, whereas TM.87 is an application for getting a non-O visa

So it seems, that if I arrive in Thailand on a tourist visa, I can apply for a change of visa to a non-O (using TM.86), is this still possible?

( I have been looking at the website of the thai embassy in Denmark, and it seems I can obtain a tourist visa there )

And, if I arrive in Thailand on an visa-exempt 30 days arrival, can I then apply for a non-O visa using TM.87 ?

I am sure ubonjoe can answer my questions. but if anyone else here has answers,  Welcome to post :welcomeani:

And I found this post by ubonjoe about this subject:

    "

You can apply for a change of visa status (TM86  form) at Jomtien immigration in Pattaya up to the last 15 days of your 60 day entry or 30 day extension of it.

You will need to meet the financial requirements to get an extension but if using the money in the bank option it only has to be in the bank on the date you apply. If using an income letter from your embassy it has been reported that they will want the consular officers signature verified by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs."

    full thread here:

I am currently not in Thailand, but when I return in a couple of weeks, I will be residing in Isaan, and the nearest office will be in Khon Kaen, and hopefully I can submit the TM.86 or TM.87 there ?
