The reasons are:

1. Thai women grew up believing that light skin is more beautiful than dark skin.

2. Thai men prefer light skin women.

3. Thai girls idolize Japanese, Chinese, and Korean girls, they want be like them and look like them.

4. In the past, dark skin represents poor or farmer, not sure it still stands now.

So there you have it--the reason.

Can relate to why nordics want tanned skin,,

-A nice tan is considered attractive for the other gender

-In the past tanned skin represented wealth. Only the rich people coid afford to go on holyday to exotic countries

The sad part is that these days young girls inject hormones (Melanotan) to get tanned, but and up looking like sh**t

I guess we all want what we can't have, so we cheat to make us feel better

I've been corrected in a PM on my statement about how tanned skin represented wealth in the past. I was told it was opposite... Not so sure about this, as my grandmother told me how all the poor kids was jealous when some kid come back from their holiday with a nice bronze...

In Europe from Middle Ages to Victorian era to early 1900s, people did everything in their power to stay as white as possible with powders and lead. Even in ancient Egypt, Rome and Greece...the ladies made sure to be very fair skinned again with dangerous lead and other ways. It represented beauty and wealth. Same with ancient China, Korea, Japan....

Queen Elizabeth I who was the epitome of wealth and elegance always powdered her already white skin to look even fairer. The "bronze" look is fairly recent actually and is a trend that became popular in the 40s but now looking at Hollywood is not as big of a deal. People are sporting the untanned look.

I read so often about men committing suicide and it is unbelievable. I moved to Phuket with my husband after buying a restaurant. Within 3 months he was cheating with a Thai woman. Go figure.

I think its dangerous for a western wife to live in Thailand with her husband. I would almost guarantee he will wander, in most cases secretly. You can't compete with the looks of a Thai, unless you are very attractive and slim.

..i know its hard for some guys to comprehend..but there are TONS of happy farang couples in THailand. To say that a farang woman cannot compete with the looks of a Thai demonstrates only your blind-sightedness and reflects only what you could not obtain prior to being here. Most farang women feel no need to "compete" (with any woman of any nationality) because they are in happy relationships. This is what you call normal.

In all honestly, its likey that most of the guys here couldnt get the same Thai lady they have with them here, if she was in the west..because she would be with something more matching.

Well, I do agree that there are many happy Farang couples here in Thailand - BUT not many were the husband does not stray from time to time or has not been with a Thai-woman at some point. Same goes for the married Farang-men coming here on business. Very very few, do not find time to spend a couple of hours with a beautiful Thai-girl, when the wife is at lunch with her expat-friends.

I find western women very naive, when it comes to believing that their men do not stray from time to time here. They all think their man is perfect and the only one that does not go with Thai-women. Guess why the sex-industry is so huge here...

Just my opinion based on the many expat men I know and business men coming here... (sorry guys for revealing the truth - hope your farang-wifes do not read this...)

There are millions of western women who are more beautiful than the average Thai woman so it is not dangerous for western women to live in Thailand with their husbands.

From what I've seen when friends come to visit (girls), the ones that have weight problems or for whatever reason are deemed unattractive by Thai standards, make friends with Thais easier, I would suppose because their threat level is low. but who knows really...

You might not like to hear this, but there is also a possibility, a strong one, that your b/f is simply telling you this because he doesn't want you to be suspicious or worried about him straying. He could be just wanting to assuage any fears you may have about him having his heart stolen by another. As you said he is "young and attractive". Some guys WANT their g/f to know that girls hit on him and that they want to steal him because the guy thinks that if his g/f hears that, she will try "extra hard" to keep him.

Farang mans a white person, ie you could not call a black Nigerian a Farang. Russian ladies are Farang, but I still think on average, Thai ladies are more beautiful.

Russian women along with Ukranian women and Swedish women and many other White women I have heard from many men and sources, are one of the most beautiful women on Earth so I highly disagree with your opinion. I also believe Russian women and many other farang women are more beautiful than Thai women, on average and by far.

And on a seperate note, the word "exotic" can be applied to every woman on Earth who looks different from the majority in a certain location. Farang women are exotic in Thailand. Larinas are exotic in Europe. It is not a word for only one look.

I would say they prefer a similar age, but this preference isn't as strong as in the West and can be overlooked for other qualities.

Thailand wasn't occupied by the Japanese in the same way that Vichy France wasn't occupied by the Germans.

There was also a resistance movement inside Thailand; particularly the north west.

Nobody is saying that, Jesus. All people are saying is that tan is not always mean dark, it could mean just a tad more bronze than natural skin color and I have had friends who tanned and were still fair skinned and light so I am talking from experience .

Not many people who tan want to be very dark, or like that orange lady some just want more color that comes from sun. Many who do it still are consisted light.

That is because there are many people who tan are still consisted fair and light skin in many standards of the world. I know women who tan not to be dark, but to have a little color from the sun and they are still fair skinned. Those that go overboard are probably addicted because it is in fact addictive like drugs.

A fattie in the West doesn't get much attention from men.

A brown girl in Thailand doesn't get much attention from men.
