At this time medical insurance is required to apply for a new non-o visas at embassies and consulates under the covid 19 rules. It is only needs to valid for the 90 days the visa allows on entry.

Entering visa exempt is a good option for most people if they already have a Thai bank account.

No need for insurance to apply for the non-o at immigration and the one year extension based upon retirement.

Thanks all for the advice and info

Looking into returning visa exempt then applying for non O visa

  2. I am 73 years old with diabetes

Have several million baht in bank for self insured health issues

Apparently self insuring is no longer an option

Applied for coverage and all test results excellent so no reason to deny coverage so I was accepted BUT they excluded everything but a nose bleed

    At a ridiculous premium

Seems I am uninsurable so with the new insurance laws I will be forced

    To leave the country

Biggest problem is I own large condo, car etc that need to be sold off

Once a lot of retirees realize that they have a shelf life in Thailand

It may be almost impossible to sell the condo,, so I

    am totally screwed

Will I have any issues removing over 5 million baht from the country?

I no longer want to contribute to the recovery here and prefer

To help my new country of choice instead

Is there any way around this situation?

I have not been able to return due to the pandemic and my OA visa has long expired

So with no feet on the ground some info is hard to obtain

    Thanks

  3. I.knew a guy in Canada

    His body was badly twisted

And if one could staighten it out

He may have met 4 feet tall

He could not move 3 feet without the help of 2 canes

    However he made a fortune

Begging as he got pretty large donations from businessmen who

    Normally would have given nothing

He stayed in top of the line hotels

    Ate better than. Most

And his passion  was a.poker game

With a 3k minimum to play

    I watched hin.lose a lot oNE night

When I asked how he could afford it

He explined that he would probably

Make it back tomorrow and over a year

    Probably broke about even

But he had a good tone doing oNE of the few things he was able to do

And after a few months he would move to a new city so people dId not get tired of him... think his donations started to drop

So I hold no malice for his begging and lIving large as no amount of money

Could ever compensate for his disabilities

  4. smoker here

lady upstairs mentioned that when I smoke on the balcony in the night, the smell enters her bedroom making it difficult to sleep

she is Thai and was very nice and polite about the situation

I stopped smoking on the balcony

I am considering buying a large fan to blow the smoke away from the building to see if this works for both of us

I had also approached her about watering her plants and the water pouring onto my balcony

    she stopped

maybe you could by a fan to blow the smoke away from your doors and even offer to buy your neighbor one as well

diplomacy can sometimes go a long way to working out problems and concessions

hopefully the man is not an ass and you can work something out with him where both of you are happy

ps,,, going to try quitting again as soon as I return to Thailand

  5. I have a Panamanian residency visa

cost me $1500 as you must hire a lawyer to do it for you by law

again Panamanians taking care of their own at the expense of the foreignor

customer service is almost non existant

if you have a problem in a restaurant their attitude is,,, if you don't like it don't come back

people here complain about the dirty beaches and noise

    they ain't seen nothin yet

people throw their garbage all over the place

boom trucks,,, speakers on wheels cranked full volume,,, have a nice day at the beach

it is incredibly corrupt but they hide it better than Thailand

if a lawyer rips you off for 20 or 30k

you can take him to court, it will take about 5 years and lots of legal fees and you will lose

    anyway I am fed up

I have been coming to Thailand for the last 7 years due to the need for a mental health break

in most places you need to worry about the poor stealing from you

in Panama it is the rich and your fellow countrymen

that being said I do have many Panamanian friends who are good people

but most of my friends there are from Colombia

the only advantage I can see is that you can own land there

and the Pensionado visa lasts indefinitely

and comes with some small discounts, best ones are the hotels

the thing that made me sign up was being able to import a car Tax and duty free

well our last president (who is currently being sheltered in the US government now as he kissed their ass when he was in power)

got rid of that benefit with no grandfather clause or return of the money I spent for the visa

probably because his friends own car dealerships

I am not aware of the buy a house and have 5k in the bank deal

I would check on this and not on the internet

there are many old posts out there with information that is no longer correct

I opened an account in the US as I got tired of being screwed over by the banks there

last straw was when they started calling debit card transaction from outside the country an international transfer

to take out $500 in say Costa Rica

$25 for the transaction then a percentage of the amount and finally a 7% tax on the charges

In my opinion Costa Rica started the ex pat thing by rolling out the red carpet

when they had enough suckers, they yanked the carpet away and screwed them all

    then it was Panama's turn

now apparently it is Colombia and Equador turn

I know many people that started in Costa Rica, then got out and moved to Panama

and are now living in Colombia

I consider them slow learners as they can't see the trend

if I sound a little bitter,,,it is because I am

I am waiting for the Chinese to do the canal through Nicaragua

as Panama manufactures almost nothing,,,they will find themselves really screwed

p.s. I did enjoy living in Panama city a bit but certainly no where near the beaches where I live now

where when the drunks need to piss they stagger across the street to piss on our houses

and when my house got robbed, my neighbor saw the thief and then saw him the next day mixing cement down the road

the neighbor went to the police, told them where to find the man and he could identify him

they told him the robbery was my fault as I should have and be paying a guard,,,ever hear of gringo prices

    Fed Up

    I AM MOVING TO THAILAND

  6. retirement extension not given at jomtien if less than 12 months validity on passport I asked and got a firm no, and no extension valid to expiry either so maybe others will waiver be careful.

I just got a retirement extension in Jomtien with my passport expiring on May 20, 2016 (less than 6 months)

they gave the extension only to the date of my passport expiry date and it will not transfer to my new passport

so I need to apply for a new extension again in May

    this was just last week

only problem is that I have no passport for 3 weeks while the reissue of my passport is being handled at my Embassy

had to do it in this order or I would have been overstay

Had I had an ounce of sense I would have applied for my new passport a month before my retirement visa was due for extension

    regards

  7. My building outside Bang Saen is too quiet

My Thai neighbor upstairs gave me a shower if I was on the balcony when she 1as watering her plants

I went upstairs one day all wet from the watering and explain ed the situation

    No more water

However a.few.days later she approached me

And said that when I smoked om my balcony at night the smoke/smell drifted into her bedroom

No more smoking on balcony at night

    Everybody happy now

So it is not so bad in a lot of places

  8. I have spent the last 7 or 8.years in Panama

There have been many Venezuelans that have moved to.Panama or that

Other spanish speaking country ... Miami

One told.me that if you get a flat tire on the hiways

In the time it takes to change the tire there is a 50/50

Chance you will be robbed . Kidnapped or killed

    Not for me

Also.many of the wealthy come.to Panama to shop

Not everything is available or cheap

This Canadian MP is clearly out of his intellectual depth. His country is a revisionist Theocracy under the rule of a Christian Fundamentalist Fanatic in service to the Zionist masters. Their nut case Prime Minister most certainly does not represent the people of Canada. He hangs with the Jews instead of attending UN meetings. He is so ill informed he donates Canadian taxpayer dollars to the Ismaelite Assasins Guild in nice photo op with Aga Khan IV.

Hang your head in SHAME. Go back where you come from, Boy! We live under the benevolent rule of a gentle Monarchy. Dump Harper and restore Canadian Democracy such as previously managed by great leaders Diefenbaker, Pearson and best of all The honorable, Pierre Elliot Trudeau.

didn't know it was this easy to spot a bleeding heart Liberal

Trudeau gave us the sociial saftey nets,,,which I am proud that we have,,,but not a plan to police them

what is it now 4 Generations of Canadians that have not worked one day in their lives,,,not to mention large numbers of people that have emmigrated to Canada for the welfare system

then Trudeau's old side kick poassed a law where it was illegal to force a person tp work

it is high time the Canadian Government started looking after the average working Canadian who pays all the bills and quit worrying so much about the people that only take their whole lives and never give anything in return as they now think welfare is a right,,,and unfortunately in Canada it seems to be

I for one am fed up with the whole Canadian political system,,,Liberals and Conservatives,,,they are both out to screw the working man

  10. i HAVE A NON RESIDENT STATUS

I HAVE NO TIES TO CANADA EXCEPT FOR MY CPP, OAS, AND PASSPORT

THEY DEDUCT 25% FROM BOTH CHECKS

MY ALTERNATIVE IS TO BECOME A RESIDENT,,,SAVE THE 25% AND REPORT MY WORLD WIDE INCOME (NOT GOING TO HAPPEN)

i KEEP GETTING LETTERS ASKING ME TO START FILING AND SAVE THE 25%,,,THEY SEEM TO THINK i AM STUPID

HOWEVER NOW THAT i AM 67 YEARS OLD,,,HEALTH CARE WHEN I TURN 70 MAY BECOME PROHIBITIVE

i HAVE 3 YEARS TO BLOW ALL MY MONEY AND RETURN TO CANADA AND APPLY FOR WELFARE OR WHATEVER

WHAT PISSES ME OFF IS THAT PEOPLE THAT NEVER WORKED A DAY IN THEIR LIVES GET A BIGGER PENSION THAN i DO

MY PRIVATE PENSION DISAPPEARED WITH BANRUPTCY BY THE COMPANY i WORKED FOR

FOR MY NON RESIDENT STATUS,,,i DID IT THRU MY MEMBER OF PARLIAMENT

BUT MADE SURE i HAD SEVERED ALL TIES FIRST

  11. I just bought a toyota Yaris 4 months ago

all I had to show them was my bank account with my 800k retirement visa money

financed thru the dealership at 2.3% over 4 years

they used Kiatnakin bank ???? never heard of them before

I was going to pay cash but of course a lot of freebies dissapeared if I didn't finance

I was going to wait 3 months then pay it off but at 2.3 % I get more with a term deposit so I guess everyone is happy

the only hicup was my age,,,the lady from the finance end phoned me and said over 65 was a problem but it was her fault she did not check as she never thought I was that old when meeting me

so if I made 6 months payments up front the financing would be approved,,,,

BS or compliment,,,who knows,,,again at 2.3% paid it and put the rest in term deposit

I did have a good down payment but can not remember the percentage

they seemed to be a little shaken when I walked in with a huge chunk of cash and laid it on the desk

  12. I think that the American Government pisses a lot of pople off including myself

however a lot of my good friends are American

I think if you are open, friendly, and a good man you should not be affected by your governments actions

as most people will see you for the person you are

I resent living under the American Umbrella in my current country where they order governments around

they breed terrorism with their aggressive policies etc

imagine coming home and finding your house a pile of debris,,,you wife. children and parents dead and being informed they were collateral damage

    another terrorist is born

I have read comments where we need them to protect them from China,,,but who is going to protect us from from them

it is easy fro them to criticise others while crime, drugs and killing in the decaying parts of most large cities there continues

maybe they should spend more time on resolving these issues at home before trying to resolve other countries shorfalls

I do not like my government much better which is why I left my country years ago but at least for the most part they do not tend to

tell others what to do and how to do it

my only problem now is finding a place where they do not stick their noses in to my financial and personal affairs,

as such I am a little happy with strained relations

i DO NOT want to see a US military base in every country in S E ASIA

Australias, Singapore and the Philippines can have and keep them,,,but at what price?

seems to me that Darwin is slated to become probably the biggest broithel in the this area due to the size if the miltary presence there

  13. th the previous post regarding the US cutting a deal to get back Clark and Subic bay

thank you for the info,,,I have been looking at relocationg to the Philippines but will not be doing that now

I am leaving Central America due to US snooping into my personel affairs ,,,allowed under the guise of foreign aid which mostly goes into the local politicians pockets

I currently am spending most of my time in Thailand as I am finally out from under the US umbrella

looks like Philippines is opening the door for the US to come in and bully them

when this happens the Philippines is off my list of places to live and it looks lije this recent deal is a good start

seems that the US wants military bases in every country in south east Asia,,,

sure wish thet would stay in the middle east where they have helped so many people and have endeared themselves to the population there

the Philippines must be blind or maybe they will get more foreign aid in return

  14. where there is smoke there is fire

I for one will never go to this island

why would I put my life in danger to patronise and give my money to the (media view) thugs that run all the tourist related businesses

and yes I have been tainted by the media and the publicity

but too much has happened in this place for it all to be the fault of the media

and if some touists are acting in unacceptable fashion,,,tell them it will not be accepted, but clean up your own act first

but I assume they accept bad behavior due to the money they make from these people,,,once again greed prevails

  15. most of these people know the consequences of their actions but the lure of big money makes them think they won't get caught

easy for the foreigner's government to point fingers at the country that catches them and sentences them

I am willing to bet that these countries that catch them do not have the drug problems that a lot of western countries do

If this lady in question was indeed forced to be a mule, I feel really sorry for her

Maybe Paraguay should be spending their efforts to clean up their own country and giving a death penalty to those that are forcing these people,,,not likely

the actual problem is not China but Paraguay's lack of policing in thie own back yard

it appears that Paraguay not only wants the death sentence commuted but wants her to be freed and sent home as well

I can agree somewhat with commuting the death penalty but total release,,,what kind of message does that send

every drug dealer in the world will start claiming "I was forced"

In central America I was aware of one middle aged lady that ran cocaine for 10k a pop

never heard if she ever got caught or not

  16. in my experience the Chinese hate to spend money om Maintenance

in one Asian country they have bought several mid range hotels,,,the prices have not risen dramatically but the rooms have deteriorated miserably

here in Thailand a Chinese group bought a gold course with a contract to maintain pool, exercise room and games room which 3 condos buildings had use of,,,guaranteed at point of sale

the pool has been closed for 7 years and the rest is rotting away

I hear the locker room and clubhouse is also in bad repair

seems the only thing they maintain is the course because they have to or close

if you golf Crystal Bay,,,please don't,,,these people need to be forced into bankruptcy and a new owner found

  17. I am thinking it is time to ditch political correctness

round up the whole bunch and send them back to their native countries

put up a wall with armed guards and don't let anyone in or out

and if they then want to commit genocide on another sect,,,let em,,,keep our noses out of it

as for the ppeople returning from war or training,,,why have they not been stripped of their passports and citizenships

why are they allowed to return,,,Oh Yea,,,Human Rights,,,bullshit

  18. may be a cultural thing

one day I was waiting for a Cambodian friend to pick me up at my hotel

while waiting I engaged in a conversation with another Falang and I did mention I was waiting for a friend to arrive

when I realised we had been talking for a long while,,,I turned around and there was my friend sitting and waiting

he had been there for 1/2 hour

when I asked why he didn't walk up and si HI,,,he explained he did not want to be rude and interupt my conversation

I tried to explain that as it was him I was waiting for and it would not be considered to be rude in my country

and next time if it ever happens again just walk over and say HI,,,no one will be offended

As it was him I was waiting for I would have just explained to the other fellow that my friend that I have been waiting for has arrived

and we have to go,,I am sure the other Falang would not be offended in any way either

different way of looking at some things

  19. I have spent 15 years in Central America and see many similiarities between there and Thailand where I now have the retrement visa

I understand the OP's point to a degree

I advise all newbies to Central America,,,,beware the local,,,he may try to scam you for $20 be more aware of your fellow countrymen,,,they are looking to scam you for 20 or 30 thousand

the majority of the ex pats are all generally pretty good people with a good pension or other source of income

unfortunately the sharks smell the blood and tend to try and infiltrate areas with a high percentage of ex pats

and these sharks come from all countries including mine (Canada),,,I am sorry to admit as they are an embarrasment to me

  20. I have met self exiles Cubans in Central America. Castro stole all their family land,,,they still have the papers that go back more than 100 years to show that the land belongs to their family. If Cuba ever opens up completely and starts to sell this land to foreign investors,,,get ready for another blood bath directed at these investors the original owners of these lands are very passionate on this subject
