  1. Sorry you are having this difficulty but interesting to know. I have been considering using WU for some online payments because of difficulties using debit card's for international transactions. This gives me fair warning that it is not as easy and straight forward as it looks.

I hope you can resolve your problem soon.

The biggest problem is finding a WU outlet that understands their own product - specifically the "Quickpay" part. The is plenty of information on their websites but they simply have never been trained about it, nor have the forms needed. In our case had to have the forms faxed from Bangkok. And we only succeeded as we managed to find a WU employee that could be bothered to do something other than play with her phone.

Yes, I took a gamble that it was a 'Quickpay' outlet, knowing I would never be able to explain. I have just made my payment in a bank using the form that they e-mailed me. I now await my itinerary..all being well. I don't understand why Emirates can't e-mail you these forms in the first place, so easy.

  2. Thanks for that. I probably made the wrong choice by using a Post Office WU outlet instead of one of the banks. I went for my refund today, had to fill in a couple of forms and was told that they will call me when I can come and collect the money. Meanwhile, Emirates have e-mailed me another form to take to any one of 4 banks (including Thanachart and TMB) to pay for my flight, which I'll do tomorrow. Maybe I'll apply for a credit card from back home after this saga.It was so much easier when Mox Travel were in business.

  3. I received this e-mail today:

    Dear Passenger,

Thank you for choosing Emirates, as you transferred money by western union and called back to Bkk EK Town office to send us the proof of payment, unfortunately to inform you that you had done an incorrect western union transfer. It is clearly mentioned online that

You need to do a quick pay western union transfer.

I would like to suggest you to visit the same WU outlet and request for the funds to be recalled.

Anyhow I will send you the form of payment to transfer money by the local bank we provided in Thailand as in the attach file. You just print it out and give it to the bank and make a payment there after that when you finish the payment. Please send us back to this email or fax us at tel 026641059 and call us to inform us to issue the ticket......

So what are the chances of getting the money back from the WU outlet (Post Office) ?

  4. I have booked a flight with Emirates, and after downloading the form, used Western Union to transfer the money. After making payment at the Post Office, I returned home to find an e-mail itinerary from Emirates with some info required for the form, so there are a couple of mistakes. The money transfer should have been made to Global Direct (not Emirates) and there was a payment number, whereas I just used the 5 letter booking code. The Post Office staff eventually managed to make the payment and I have a receipt, but has it gone to the right place? What happens if I don't receive payment confirmation from Emirates in the next 7 days? How do I get my money back? I have rang the Emirates office in Bangkok, but they are closed 'til Monday. Any thoughts, advice appreciated.

  5. Apparently it says:

"Commission on Higher Education take note of approval of this course as of 23 December 2556"

I am open to sincere and polite discussion on the matter.

Can you explain the readers of this forum what the stamp actually says?

Until someone completes this course, then applies and gets a teaching licence for their hard work / money, it'll be treated as any other TEFL, TESOL, course here.

  6. The best thing that OBEC can do is to retire all the teachers over 50 thus freeing up promotion for younger and more modern teachers, set in place a new high quality teacher training university and then resign en masse as most of them are as much use to educating Thai children as a bicycle is to a fish (to put it politely).

Yes, and leave it to the blind leading the blind...or the backpacker leading the backpacker. cheesy.gif

  7. Still having problems and they're trying to blame it on my network and ISP. They even sent me a link to install Thai Expat TV as I have the UKTV platform and the subscription doesn't end until December. The Thai Expat link didn't work as every time I click on a channel, the program closes and it returns to the desktop! Waiting for a reply, though they'll probably still blame it on the network. Had no problems until the World Cup started....coincidence ?

  8. Yes, I had a problem with Thai Expat TV yesterday, it just wasn't buffering at all. I contacted them and got an e-mail recommending I unplug the router, plug it back in, then restart the computer, and it actually worked, though the download and buffer weren't as high as I'd been used to, it did the job. Watched the England match on 365sport. On 60 minutes, the program just closed. Started it up again and had no problem the rest of the match. This used to happen quite often during the EPL season..very annoying, hope they sort it out or I'll be taking my custom elsewhere.

  9. RS wins court battle, only 22 matches of Word Cup to be aired on free TVs

BANGKOK: -- Supreme Administrative Court Wednesday ruled in favour of RS, freeing it from the order of the National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission to air all 64 matches on free TVs.

The Supreme Administrative Court's ruling meant only 22 matches of the World Cup 2014 would be aired on free TVs.

    -- The Nation 2014-06-11

Info is sparse at this time only the following has been announced.

22 matches including opening and final match of #WC2014 will also be broadcast on free TV.

The first three matches to be aired on free TV are: Brazil-Croatia, Mexico-Cameroon and Uruguay-Costa Rica. (Channels 7 and 8)

Viewers wanting to watch all 64 matches will have three options.

First: they can buy the RS World Cup set-top box, costing 1,590 baht each. (that works out to 24 Baht per game)

Second: subscribers of PSI pay-TV service can watch the matches if they buy the new PSI-O2 HD box.

Third: TrueVisions will carry the World Cup channel by RS, both in standard and high-definition resolution, for its members at no extra charge.

    OR:-

Fourth: They can subscribe to Thai Expat TV

Fifth: They can subscribe to 365sporttv.

  10. I use a service from Spain they provide a small Iptv box which gives you the whole of uk frees at plus all of sky tv and about 200 on demand movies which is updated every month and also a few hard core porn channels. The box was really expensive at 22,000 baht but it works well on my 3bb connection and watching it on my 50 inch tv it looks great. Also on the box is racing uk and I know the uk subscription to that station is nearly 13,000 baht alone. I would recommend it but as I said expensive!

Sent from my iPhone using Thaivisa Connect Thailand

Could you post a link to the website?

  11. Live internet streaming of a tournament as massive as the World Cup, will be just as big a gamble for those relying on watching a full game with a decent picture.

  12. You could have taken the three year package including installation when it first came about, for 25,000 baht .

Given that Sky TV would cost substantially more and you don't get to choose which game you watch it's pretty fair IMO.

Yeh, wish I had now, but there were plenty of doubters at how long CTH would last then. As you say, would pay a lot more elsewhere.

  13. Not impressed with the new monthly cost + vat totaling just over 12,800 Bt for the year. Got the special promotion first time round, so only paid about 9,000. Received a call from them today and asked about any discount for a 12 month subscription. I was told that if you pay the full 12 months, you'll get the following 3 months free. I'm not at the point of relying totally on an internet connection yet, and think that the overall EPL coverage was good, so I have no option but to subscribe. 14. Remembering the 2010 WC on Thai TV, with their commentary and those <deleted> zoozoo whatevers blowing away, I must have an English speaking option for this WC.

I downloaded sport 365 for a 2 week trial last week and watched some F1 practice and the QPR/ Derby game over the weekend, I have to say the coverage was good, for an internet based service. However in my lounge it is a pain having extension leads, HDMI leads and my laptop all over the place, I wish I could just pick up the remote and find some English speaking TV coverage!

I already have True & CTH and so really do not want another provider installed.

Over the weekend when many of the TV channels were down I was cruising the CTH package, which I generally only use for PL football and Sky news and discovered Star sports and Fox sports, I wonder if this might be the solution for a regular TV source of coverage other than Thai terrestrial or RS.

    Any thoughts anyone?

Invest in the Thai Expat TV set top box and watch all the World Cup coverage on ITV and BBC.
