I'm just wondering if anyone survived to Airasia website...

    Proxy Error

The proxy server received an invalid response from an upstream server.

The proxy server could not handle the request POST /skylights/cgi-bin/skylights.cgi.

Reason: Error reading from remote server

    or similar errors...

Now is two days that I'm trying to book and just once I passed the credit card form...(but the system crashed after)

  2. Hi,

I was wondering...my parents will meet me in Thailand soon, they are 58yo and I think they should have an healt checkup just in case...

I asked a friend back home (Italy) and for these kinds of checkups the queue is up to 3/4/5/10months plus a cost between 300/1000Eur.

Can anyone suggest an hospital which is specialized in packaged checkups?

I'm not really sure what is best for them and how much is the average cost for this kind of examinations...

    thanks

  3. Hi,

Same situation here. I'm Italian, she is Thai..we currently live in Australia but next year we will leave.

    First problem: WORK

Except for UK, Ireland and maybe Holland and Belgium there are no possibilities for you (and for your bf) if you don't speak the local language (i.e. Italian in Italy, German in Germany and so on).

SECOND PROBLEM: IMO, the only practical way is to go in EU is to move in UK.

NOTE: I don't know and I never heard about anyone who obtained a visa in this way.

In theory, your bf as EA national can go in UK. Then, settle over there and after a year (not sure if it is only ONE) ask for a permanent residency (settlement visa).

Then after, he can sponsor you using his settlement visa as fiancee (you will have to marry him within six months..i think) or as de-facto partner (in this case you need to live together 2yrs before).

Holland, belgium and UK have defacto.

Moreover, most of the countries have really tight restrictions on fiancee visa.

(FYI Ireland doesn't have fiancee visa)

    ...

Or you can marry him and get a visa immediately....and move anywhere in EU.

    ....

BUT...because you mentioned Canada... well...canada is pretty relaxed with immigration. I would check if you can apply over there for a residency PR with partner (or without)...and I would remind to your bf that he can go to canada using his working holiday (if is younger than 30yo).

In my case after with my gf we reach the minimun points and we will qualify for canada...just give it a try

  4. I flew into Suvarnabhumi last Sunday (1st Oct) so was one of the early test rats for the experience flying in from Heathrow.

Guess what - not boarding. ARRRRRGGGGGGHHHHHHH total crap! So we then end up sitting in the goddamn horrible metal excuses for chairs at the gate. I see they are start to prepare for board so

    Man...just take it easy...

  5. It maybe a crassly stated generalization,

but not for off the mark either...

I would NEVER think of crossing a border

without enough cash for 4-7 nights

    in at least flophouse hotels,

and food for the same period.

Ideally AMEX and another major card too.

Yeah sure...AMEX in burma....I crossed the border with burma once, with an Amex and a Visa...but...no atms around. (It wasn't a visa run..i was just curios about burma)

Then...I crossed the border btw Italy/Switzerland around 200 times...tell me one good reason why I should had carried with me enough cash for 4-7 nights...no reasons same as for the Thai-Burma border.

(Ok..if you cross a border in a country which is in state-of-war you might think about it..but thailand for sure doens't need this precautions)

I wouldn't flaunt that cash in public of course.

But the idea I could be sleeping on the sidwalk,

and raiding Burmese trash cans for what food THEY throw out,

for 4-5 days doesn't even become a possible risk for me to take.

When you cross ANY border you are essentially at the mercy of

a.) the country you are in, and it's political whims

b.) the country you want to return too, and IT's political whims. :o

These whims CAN take on a more agressive character here,

    than say, USA / Canada...

I think that no-one of the guys crossed the burmese/thai border never thought about this problem as anyone here. I just don't see the reason to carry 10k/bath over the border for a visa run...just give me a relevant reason? When I crossed the border I had my (unusable) credit cards and a couple of bath (maybe 1.5k) but really...no reasons to carry more cash (other then to be robbed).

  6. Does England want him? :D

What about his Visa status? He isn't PM anymore? No official passport, right?

    :o

extridite him back to Thailand for crimes committed tax fraud and humanity crimes

lets have back in thailand to face the fireing squad

ling live the armed forces take over ????

    Hey,

I'm not British but I'm European. IMO European countries should make a clear point about this people.

People involved in murders, illegal transactions and human rights violations (which includes also freedom of speech) shouldn't be allowed to enter EUROPE under any circumstances.

Does anyone remember the Muslims killed during ’transportation’ few years ago?

Does anyone remember the Muslim activist that disappeared?

Anyone remember the way is doing business?

I'm sorry but politicians should have a minimum standard and as we don't let Alexander Lukashenko enter Europe...we should send a strong signal to all the people like him.

We can joke about the different rights for non-citizens in Thailand & England...but this is a serious matter. If he wants to go somewhere in exile... Asia, South America or US perhaps are more than happy to offer him a place to live...

  7. I depart/arrive terminal 1 and take TGV. The shuttle bus is an unnessary hassle and I could do without, therefore the Schiphol (Amsterdam) and Frankfurt examples are ideal: trains arriving underground at lower levels arrivals/departures. That's the perfect commuter solution. I remember Zurich to be the same. Please learn something from these airports.

We are not living in a dream world. So far there aren't Skytrain and Metro lines.

So far you have to catch a taxi and it seems to be the more effective way to go anywhere.

Last july I used one of the so called 'transfer' buses to change terminal in BKK. It was fine for me because I'm young and I can handle a 27kg luggage. It wasn't that easy for another couple of people that were in their '60. Those buses aren't the bus that you would use for transferring people in/out an airport. Not much space for luggages and (small) stairs to climb aren't really things that make a bus 'user-friendly' especially if you are just landed from a 10h flight or you are a women or not anymore young.

Something smart would be a free bus ride to the nearest Skytrain/Metro station PLUS the possibility to use a taxi.

    All of this is IMO.

  8. Sounds like after 1st Oct you will need a real visa issued from outside of Thailand...

A Trip to Penang or Phom Phen 'might' do this but speculation says they will also no longer issue multiple entry tourist visas or be a lot tougher about giving them out (especially to people with back to back stamps already) in which case you might well be SOL..

He said that 'I came from Australia'...assuming that he is Australian (i.e. Australian passport holder) ...he can apply for a Thai Work-Holiday visa..which is valid for a year without any specific limitation...

check at the thai-sydney consulate..they have all the info you need.

    cheers

  9. Story verified.

    Moving topic to News Forum.

    Hello,

it is a big new in Italy now. According to several newspapers he was traveling using a Liechtenstein passport with a 15days. Due to a full flight he had to wait 3 days...so he decided to change with a pen his expiry date on his visa to 6th of august (from 15 to 30days).

He was jailed for that and he spent 2 days in a Jail before being transferred to BKK. Then after 4/5 days (couldn't find the exact day) the family rang the Italian embassy asking for assistance. The embassy provided a name for a lawyer and the lawyer tried to ask for bail which was denied.

Here is an interview with the mother (in Italian).

She said that Saturday night things went wrong and he has been transferred to a hospital. Then he died the night between Monday and Tuesday.

The mother also claim that was very difficult to talk to the doctors for 'linguistic reasons'. She said that doesn't think that his son has been beaten while he was in jail because no sings of it. They think about an infection or heart failure. They are waiting to receive the body back from the Thai authorities.

The only things that sound strange to me are:

    1) you are one of the richest men in Europe and offer a 6k bail bond? I would offered a 200k bail to get out of that jail

    2) you are one of the richest men in Europe and try to change the visa expiry date on your passport instead then pay 1500bath overstay fee?

    Strange....

  11. Hi Guys,

I will spend few days in Chiang Mai/Rai...

can anyone help me with my travels?

    So far my plans are:

    1) 16th of July: flight to Chiang Mai from BKK

    2) 16/17/18: Chiang Mai trips

    3) evening 18th: flight to Chiang Rai

    4) 19: trip to the Golden Triangle

    5) 20: from Chiang Rai back to BKK

    6) 21: back to Australia

Any suggestions on what to see/stay/do in Chiang Mai?

(any suggestions also fror a travel agent that will not try to ripp me off?)

    thanks

  12. But to fly by low cost airline in Thailand, a short trip of round trip on the same day is not recommended as they are always late. You will have a problem of return ticket. Even they should responsible for that but you will sick of negotiation.

I'm sorry for my stupid question....

    but...

can I book using my mum's credit card? (she will stay @ home in Italy while I'm travelling)

My visa has expired...and now I have only an Amex which is not supported by Airasia nor Tigerairways...

    bye

  13. Just back from the embassy, granted a free 3 month tourist visa no problems.

Now I must find out what we can do about getting the EEA Permit whilst in Italy. I have never before experienced such rude and unhelpful people employed in a public office before.

I will keep you informed how things work out.

    Hello,

I'm Italian and my gf is thai. We currently live in Australia and I don't have much experience with the visa offices in Italy.

    Anyway,

    I can tell you that:

    1) Thailand is not considered as friend for Italy (Don't ask me why, I don't know. Moreover the embassy can refuse a VISA without any reason (new rules against terrorism!).

    2) I followed a visa hassle for a Ukranian friend, and I can confirm that obtaining a visa is a real pain. You have to pass thru million of inefficient idiot bureaucrats. Don’t expect to obtain the visa in few weeks and as I know you can apply for a family visa in the country of residence (i.e. Thailand but I hope for you that I’m wrong).

    Good luck

Ps: I really envy the Brits, Dutch and the other developed countries…I cannot bring my gf as fiancée/partner in Italy because we don’t have a fiancé/partner visa (only wife)..and we are just 25 and 24 …so the weeding for us weeding is a synonymous of nightmare!

  14. From what I can see, no body has made mention that this visa will be limited to 100 people a year.  That's what they said on the news the other day.  It will also be recipricated.  100 Ozi's can come to Thailand for a working hol too.

So if you want one get in quick!  But i reckon it's more a deal made  by Tuksin so his and his mates kids can have a back packing holiday round the country!  They would never be aloud otherwise.

The Australians can apply once Thailand overcomes the work permit issues to enable employment.

  15. If she has an MBA and a 5 of years work experience in a well paying job in Thailand earning more than 12,000 pounds per year immediately before she started her masters, she might qualify to migrate to the UK in her right using the Highly Skilled Migrant Programme. Details are available here?

If she is under 28, the income and work experience threshold are lower to about 8000 pounds per year in the year before she studied with 3 years work experience. The home office in the UK will need to see paid tax returns and letters from employers confirming all of this before the can approve the visa.

    Well...thanks for all the info.

    This is the plan:

    1) Finish here with the master and ask for an Italian tourist visa. Then in Italy ask for a UK tourist visa and move to UK

    2) While in UK I'll try to find *proper* job (I'm enough confident about this)

    3) She will try to find a sponsor (I'm not confident at all about this)

    4) Ask for a settlement VISA for her

She is younger than 28 but I'm not sure about 8000GPB and 3years work exp.

In theory another way is to marry my gf. However, I'm sure my parents will be not happy at all about this. Anyway, the main problem will be her mum. She is a little bit conservative and I'm sure she will not allow my gf to marry me! (We can marry in secret but if something will go wrong it will be a painful experience for both of us)

(I didn't say anything about Italy visa because it is almost impossible obtain any visa that is not tourist)

    (Have a look here: http://www.britishembassy.gov.uk/servlet/F...065721614065#Q1 )

    Thanks

  16. I'm not suggesting that you marry your g/f purely for the sake of her getting a UK visa, but if you were to do so, then she could get a family permit for the UK on the basis of marriage to a European Union national. Family permits are a lot easier to obtain than normal settlement visas.

Failing that, she would probably struggle to get a settlement visa. You are right that she would need to show evidence of 2 years' cohabitation in order to get a visa on the basis of being an unmarried partner and, from what you've posted, you haven't been living together that long.

    Scouse.

Well...I forgot to say that we should finish our master during dic '06 so it will be 1year and 9months under the same roof (then we will move to Italy/UK with a 3months tourist visa)

    thanks again

    giruz

  17. Well,

I’m not sure if this is the right time and the right place to ask, however, I’m asking.

My gf is Thai we have been together since dic ’04 and we live tighter since april ’05 (we don’t have a proper contract nor utilities bills).

Anyway, we are currently living in Australia. We are both students, she is doing MBA and I’m doing another master.

I cheked the UK immigration website and it seems that we need to proof that we have been together for at least 2years in order to obtain a visa that allow my gf to work (settlement visa/partner visa)…

    Am I right?

My other little concern is that I’m not UK citizen, I’m Italian.

Can I hope to obtain a working visa without marry my gf? (I think that she should first ask a tourist visa for Italy/Shengen then ask for a tourist visa for uk and then try to go in UK wher I should try to find a job and sponsor her application)

    Thanks for any clue

  18. Most Thai families have never tasted wine. Period. (Unless you count sartor, as being wine  :D ). So, the question of it being good, indifferent or anti-freeze wine is immaterial imho, it'll be put on ice and hoofed down all the same. But then as there'd no mention of Paw, and little 14 yr old Somchai is a little young for victuals, then it could be put in the back of the cupboard and left as a bad present. Need to find out if M-In-L drinks first, before going the booze route.  :D

Gold jewellry, is a bit like taking coals to Newcastle, (or Fiats to Turin) and while not being a bomber present, might be construed as a hard come-on for her daughter's hand, and you will thus be a marked man.

Olive oil, could be alright, IF she's a knowledgable foodie and likes a bit of pasta, tossed salads and spag bol, now and again. If not, leave the price label on to show it's not the same as the GMO soya oil she currently gets down Tescos.  :D

Now, a classic Italian handbag by one of your top designers could get her juices going and make you a star, if she's anything like those women who drool outside the Gucci shop windows in WTC or Siam Centre. Shoes are out, but if your feeling a bit tight (as all students are supposed to!) then just get the old dear an immitation Made in China knock off model of the Leaning Tower of Pisa and be done with it man. Ditto model Ferrari for the nipper.  :D

    Benuvenuto Bangkok.

One question? Did she book you and daughter seperate rooms or one room? Not being nosy or nuffin.  :o

    Well...

FIRST Big problem...She (the daughter) doesn't come with me, she still stay in Australia because she is doing her MBA. So...I'm alone against the family :D

About Gucci, Prada &c... Ok that is a gift ..but. I’m Italian not a rich Italian. Even in my family we cannot spend 400Euros for a bag.

I think I will buy an Armani's perfume and for the brother something with the Ferrari log (it is always about the price...I cannot spend 100Euros for a ######ing cap made in China with Ferrari Logo)

    thanks

  19. Does Italy play football?

Is the Pope Cath... oh never mind.

Alcohol is a bit of a risky gift for a Thai mother. You might get labelled as an alcoholic.

Re being part of the family, if you're a boyfriend, they probably expect you to be the future husband. Scary, isn't it? :o

    This isn't Scary..this is terrorizing...

About the gift you are right..

I moved to Italian Olive Oil and Armani Purfume...the problem is with the boy. A ######ing t-shirt of ACMilan is not less than 89EUROS (around 4500THB for the non european readers).

    Thanks for the help

  20. Well...

This is my first post...i discovered this forum just 1h ago...to be quick...

I'm an Italian student in Australia

She is a Thai student in Australia

We are together...and...I'm in Italy to fix some 'bureaucratic problems' but on the way back from Italy to Sydney I will stop in Bangkok to meet her mum and bro (14yo).

They paid the hotel because 'I'm one of the family' (ARGHHH!!!!TOO SOON!!! :o )

(the hotel is grand hotel bangkok...it is good?)

So...What I should bring from Italy for them? (Mum & Bro)

I was thinking some liqueur for the mum ( www.disaronno.com ) because it is a typical Italian product...but I'm not sure...I don't know very well the Thai traditions...

    Can anyone help me?

    thanks
