Thailand use to be sublime, but now, not as much anymore. If you are just into hanging out and mind numbing
comfort, then Thailand is for you.
Can you expand on mind numbing comfort? Is comfort not a good thing?

I am going to fly out of the country on the 9th of April, I will comeback on a tourist visa and convert this at a later date for a new job.
I am finishing at my current job this week and I want them to write me a visa cancellation request letter that states that I will finish at my current job on the 9th. I have a good reputation at the school and I am sure they will have no issue in helping me out HOWEVER the visa guy is acting very strange and is claiming that I CAN NOT cancel my extension of stay and have it post dated at Chaengwattana and can only cancel it by leaving the country. It seems that he is either simply ignorant of the need to do this or just simply has no experience in dealing with this situation.
I am currently going to ask my future employer to call him and discuss what needs to be done, however, does anyone have an example of a letter they have used in the past or some sort of template I could show to the visa chap to help him wrap his head around what I need to get from the school.
I presume that I probably could fly out of the country without issue if I don't cancel it but that it may cause me problems further down the line when I apply for visas with my next school?

You seem very offended by a statue

Thank you for your help, so when I cancel my work permit, the extension of stay is not cancelled?
-
Do I need to do it in a specific order?
Can I post date the cancellation of the work permit as well or do I need to wait and cancel it the same day as my visa is officially cancelled?
-
Thank you ubonjoe, that is the work permit bit sorted out.
If I am flying out of the country do I need to have my extension cancelled, am I likely to be questioned about it at the airport if I don't get it cancelled at immigration?
-
I need to cancel my current work permit / visa and then come back on a 30 day stamp, I plan to do this next week. I will then travel back home in the middle of April and get a new tourist visa there, my new job will then convert this into an non-b / extension of stay for me.
What are the steps I need to take in order to cancel my work permit, do I need to cancel the extension of stay at immigration, can I just fly out and back in of the county to get a 30 day stamp?
Thank you in advance for any help you can give me!

Got 38 seconds into the documentary
There is not a single Thai person who thinks that the word farang means stranger nor is it one of the first words that they learn, what type of utter horseshit am I getting into with this documentary?

Invest in a Kindle and enjoy free books for the forseeable future, if you don't fancy the free books bit then buy them from the Amazon site. Best thing I have bought since I started living here.

OP, most is correct. I've been to 72 countries, and PI is #72 for food. Un-eatable. Even the Western food sucks there. You will find yourself at KFC and McDonalds every other day. As a foodie, I couldn't live there.
Im from the Police State and will liberated PI in 1945, and they talk about it to this day. They LOVE us there. In Thailand, they HATE us,......unless we are buying from them....
They hate YOU in Thailand, the rest of us don't expect to be revered like Gods for simply coming from a different country.

Need to leave the country next month as starting a new job in April and need get a single entry tourist visa for them to convert to a non-b at a later date.
Looking to leave Bangkok on Thursday morning and come back on the Friday evening.
What would be the easiest and cheapest of the two options? I have done Vientiene several times in the past but wouldn't mind a change if Penang is cheaper / easier.

You are right about the air-con, I haven't had it in my house for 3 months now and I am well used to it.
Can I make a suggestion?
Why not become a teacher for one year on a 40,000 baht salary. Save 29,000 x 12 and reinvest it back into the poker? $350 is not the bankroll of a professional full time player, surely you must know that? Something is going to go wrong in your life and you are not going to have a single baht to your name to fix the problem, you could get sick, need to go back home, girlfriend needs to buy something urgently etc.
Anyway if you are happy, good for you and best of luck in the future but why not even work on the weekends at a language school for some extra cash?

Was it just me or did everyone cringe at the OP's almost Pretty Woman style description of turning his poor lowly "Thai wife" into a high class American lady who fits in down at the country club?
Best of luck to you OP but hate to rain on your parade, some of us who live here are genuinely happy!

Q. " Governor, is there any chance you may be getting some things wrong ? "
A. " Absolutely not, and even if there was there's no way I'd admit it "
He just stated at the end of the article that there will be a review and changes made, christ almighty guys

By the way he is dressed it looks more like he has turned up for a photo op than to get down and dirty. I bet there was a nice new clean piece of paper strategically placed for his personal collection during the photographs.
Really? It is impossible to pick up rubbish while wearing trousers?
The cynicism and general level of misery that exists within this forum always cheers me up
Well done to him for trying to protect some of Thailand's beauty that others seem so hell bent on destroying

I never thought I would defend taxi drivers, BUT, it seems a valid reason to reject a customer if they have to return the taxi and fear they will miss the deadline (assuming its the truth). I for one would support financial help such as a lease to buy system for taxi drivers to purchase their own cars and eradicate such excuses and at the same time reduce the number of wealthy individuals/firms who own fleets of taxis, one would hope you would also see a drastic improvement in driving if they actually own their vehicle.
If they are scared of missing the deadline why are they stopping and asking the passengers where they want to go?
Taxis need to be cleaned up big time if the government is serious about improving tourism in this country, let them up the starting meter price to 50 baht under the caution that if they refuse a passenger they will lose their license for a month each time they do it.

You can feel the hatred for Thais just oozing out of this thread, but yes that is a very messed up situation and a very clear example of what happens when you have mickey mouse "village heads" who must be among the most obviously corrupt people in Thailand.
How much would it cost them to get the road done?

Ah here comes the annual Songkran moan
"But but the bad Thai man threw the water on me during an annual water fight."
There is in fact a thing called a house which you can stay in during Songkran, if you have a car you can just stay at a mall all day, go shopping and watch films at the cinema.
Enjoy your time outside of Thailand though as I shall be having a great time come Monday afternoon with a water gun in one hand a beer in the other. It is indeed a "festival" most people are happy and have a great time together.

Tell them Prime Minister, I never doubted your brains.
Your mouth is what I doubt sometimes.........but nobody is perfect in this world.
I seriously think you wouldn't mind the PM slipping into your bed instead of your wife one of these evenings, your posts get more affectionate by the day.

I'm pretty sure they are illegal to operate since the army came in but I could be wrong. Are you sure about the cutting off fingers bit?

I tell all my American friends to do not come to Thailand! Good man died but not enough technology to get data from his phone. If it smells like bull and looks like bull it is probably bull sh-t.
What are you rambling about?
He kicked up some shop like a child throwing a tantrum and managed to kill himself in the process what an utter waste of a life. It is a tragedy that could have been quite easily avoided with a bit of common sense.
Stop trying to make mysteries when they simply don't exist.

The router isn't set to have a static IP
This was not the point. Check your Computers, mobile phone, tablets etc. for their IP-settings.
Apologies.
I meant to say the router settings have nothing checked for static IP and also all devices are setup to obtain IP automatically
I will try deleting the Wi-Fi connection profile

I had vitamin d-3 checked recently at mission was expensive enough about 2800 and took 3 or so days to get the results back, I was pretty surprised at the price to be honest.
I was just about in the normal range

How about a list of the top 100 most corrupt soldiers?
Why Thailand over other Mekong countries?

Ah cmon are you trying to tell me rural Vietnam has a thriving cultural scene??
Singapore is about the size of a snickers bar and wealthy as you can get, not exactly a fair comparison to Issan.
