  1. I would not sell my Harley for 10 Japanese Bikes! I love the sound, I love the brand and I don't care which bikes others are riding. What a senseless thread!

    Cheers

sound and brand....................two good reasons to by a bike....are you serious

how about - pure performance, comfort (including ride, vibration, noise, especially on long journeys, passenger comfort) pure enjoyment....handling....looks, value for money and consideration for others i.e. noise pollution

personally my only real beef as mentioned pereviously with HD is when the exhaust is effectivly removed, as a bike wouldn't be my choice but thats just me and personal preference which I am entitled too as are HD owners, and the only person thinks the noise is cool is the person sitting on it, and being in motorsport myself the sound of a nicely tuned engine really rocks my boat, had a few myself.

  2. and for the moderator that moved this thread

it was about the noise of bikes to the general public i.e. all forum readers and not specifically biker types so perhaps you would move this back where it was as most posters that replied where general forum users as intended.

  3. my complaint about harleys is mostly noise, why should we all suffer, what you ride is your business, I wouldn't buy one because I like motorbikes, and as for torque........well check out the figures, CBRXX pulls pretty well .. I'm happy :-) and as for soul...........well thats a matter of oppionion......shall we put it to a vote lol

quote....Soft-tail and keep riding it amongst the Land of the Hornets...ya'all won't be riding anywhere near me mate, I like my peace and quiet, and not much you could be doing about it on yur lump, when i'm on your road it's mine.

oh and I have a million baht but definately definately would never consider buying a HD, in fact I wouldn't ride one if it was free....up to me.

    loud...pointless...useless sounds american lol

but seriously they are just too loud and annoying for most people........my main point, and why do we all have to suffer because youu have no muffler, I'll bet most of you HD riders wear ear plugs on a trip or you have serious hearing damage, so whats the point lol

  4. I'm not against bikes.....have one myself (Honda 1100cc CBRXX Super Blackbird) but it is quiet, I love to go on long trips and looked forward to visa runs etc which I did on the bike, it doesn't annoy other people as the exhausts are still nice and quiet - even with aftermarket pipes fitted it would still be quiet, so what is it with people and these big harleys (and others) with no exhaust whatsoever......why, it could not be good for long journy (do my head in listening to that for hours), it is extremely annoying for everyone around that has to listen to it (it is for me) - most people I know think that people who run around on bikes with exhaust baffles removed are just plain annoying dicks and although they themselves think it's cool 99% of the people that have to listen to it wish they didn't, why don't they simply fit a proper exhaust and stop being so annoying...........harley owners welcome to comment if you can think of something to say to defend this highly annoying behavior.

    rant over

PS personally I don't regard a harley as a true motorbike, it's ugly, has no design purpose, is way overpriced, creates extreme noise pollution, is uncomfortable to ride, most countries would bann it unless exhausts fitted within noise restrictions............pointless really.

  5. I have eaten in Robins Nest several times, each time saying to myself I'll give it one more try.........no more, the food has got worse and it has gone up in price, hardly a tonic to attract people back for more, last meal in the place was well over 1500baht, one of the meals had to be sent back 3 times because it was cold, gave up in the end and it was left sitting on the table, the owner was nowhere to be seen and the thai lady serving us was extremely rude, so that was it for me, the food is bland and tasteless plus well over priced..................just my opinion from my own experience.

  6. You didn't make it clear who you're talking to, but if it's me, you're sadly mistaken.

Maybe you're one of those sad people who live in Asia because you can't afford a life back at home. Maybe you're a person who eats off food carts to save money?

As usual there is always one person who has to spoil things and surprise surprise it is you Tropo.

Many people have found this thread useful and informative but you have to start insulting people as with most other threads you contribute to.

As JR Texas rightly said all these dentists are trained to the same standard and in even in the back of beyond I have never come across a doctor or a dentist who doesn't speak English to a reasonable level. Thats like saying private Doctors in the UK are better than the Doctors that work for the national health, same same but one is more expensive! Up to you as the thais would say.

Tropo is the only person I have ever put on ignore on this forum........If I want your opinion, I'll give it to you lol

  7. don't forget the cost to build here is only a fraction of what it is back home, that is clearly not refelected in the asking prices for the finished product

Certainly the cost of labor is less, but cost of materials is similar and is the big part of the price

We are in Thailand.... everything in Thailand should be 1/4 or at worst 1/3 the price of your home country including realestate

1/4 of the price ? for everything ? are you dreaming now ? :)

and don't forget that new condos use now furniture from Europe or USA (plumbing, faucets, showers, electricity, ...)

and that these imported products are more expensive here than in you country ...

    Pattaya46,

    Very well said.

I don't know many places where you can get a 3 bedroomed detached house/bungalow on a 500sqm plot of land, with a pool in the UK for 7 milion baht (150,000 pounds), & be 20 minutes from the beach.

There are plenty like that avaible in Ptty for 7 milion or less

there are pockets/areas in the UK where properties are extreme depending on location, there are also areas where 150-200k pounds would not be unusual for a detached house/bungalow, sorry but I hold fast with my statement, your example of 7million baht should be more like 4-5 million, you are doing exactly what I said in my original post............comparing with back home prices on the wrong end of the scale :D but please feel free to hand your well earned nest egg over to something you will never own and was built for a fraction of what you paid for it lol

  8. I don't see too many owning up to bad investments so this thread will basically be useless, my guess would be a lot of people bought various properties here and realised some time later that they where dupped by sales people with greatly elevatd prices, I would also say the single biggest error people make is comparing prices here with their respective home country and believeing the sales pitch (this would cost blah blah in the UK) Developers are making so much money from people here it is just crazy, don't forget the cost to build here is only a fraction of what it is back home, that is clearly not refelected in the asking prices for the finished product, stupid falangs are just paying up the asking price thinking - well they're all that price so it must be right, what dictates the price for anything is what people are willing to pay based on what they know, if buyers new the construction costs here compared to back home it would be a real shocker but while there are fools willing to pay 5 10 20 million baht for a condo/flat or a house here the prices will remain.

We are in Thailand...............everything in Thailand should be 1/4 or at worst 1/3 the price of your home country including realestate...........fools and their money......................and they never even own it lol

  9. Prakit said, adding that cutting prices would not help operators to survive in the long term and would also damage the overall tourism industry.

I would love to hear the explanation from this prat on exactly what the above statement means, I've noticed before how Thai officials make these statements without explanation of the thinking behind them, I'm pretty sure he doesn't know lol

  10. i think the few weeks over chrstmas it is impossible to gauge how busy it has been, really depends on where you go - what time etc, what i do know is ..... high season is over, from the start of this week there has been a sharp decline everywhere, very noticeable, if you have a business here that relies on tourism don't expect to get busy any time soon.

As for traffic congestion- I've said it many many times on here............there are far too many baht buses and if anything they are growing in numbers.

cambodia is getting popular, cheaper than here, you can own your own - land - property and buisness 100%, get a work permit if you desire one.

what is killing Pattaya is greedy thais charging huge rent/lease to falangs for buisnesses that can't support it, also there is something wrong when the price of a beer ranges from 35baht to 160baht - that is just wrong, give it 10 years and cambodia will be the place to go/live and thailand will be left wondering what happened. they also need to seriously consider baht devaluation.

  11. There are now huge numbers of Russians here, over 2 weeks later.

That's the way I normally expect it to be. Europeans like to spend Christmas - New Year at home and travel in the new year. January and February are usually busier than December.

But usually there are a massive number of mongers in the town for that period. Their numbers were significantly down this year.

Even if true, it doesn't matter as the number of Thais, Chinese, Russians, and perhaps Arabs is significantly up. (Love those great-looking Russian women, too.) Lots of Thais visit on weekends now, more than ever. Every weekend seems crowded with horrendous traffic on Beach & 2nd roads. The parking situation is the worst it's EVER been despite newer lots at the Avenue, Central, and Tukcom. Central was supposed to go bust according to all the usual doomsayers. It's doing great. Lots of new hotels & condos. Northpoint is looking great.

A lot of the mongers are less visible now as they've migrated over to the Soi Buakow area. That area has built up massively in the past 5 years. You need mongers, go over there and you'll find plenty.

As far as sheer numbers go, I don't see a problem. Economically, overall, Pattaya is doing great.

Pardon me for asking but what is a "Monger" ?

  12. You'll probably find that there are laws & regulations for all the OP's queries, it's just that there is no law enforcement on them, maybe the police are understaffed and under paid which is why they need to accumulate easy fines such as the motorbike violations which are easy money for them.

I would also think that all these problems start from the top, the government that funds the police and then all the corruption that filters down from there. Unless that is tackled then not much will ever change.

Sometimes I think that there should be a 5 baht per drink surcharge in Pattaya with the funds going to the cops. With that easy money coming in, the police should crack down on all the crap going on. And 5 baht per drink is a lot of baht!

    TheWalkingMan

right so only drinkers pay for the law breaking madness..............good idea lol

  13. Nice pic and one of his fellow BIBs waving him off helmetless :)

I see what you are saying. I should have nicked them both, the second one for perverting the course of justice by knowingly allowing the misdemeanor to take place and by not nicking him.

Clever. Thanks. Will add it to my Vigilante Notebook.

i will give you my number and if you decide to attempt an arrest of a cop for not wearing a helmet give me a call before hand, I attend with my camera and take many pictures, I am pretty sure it will be much more interesting read than your OP

  14. And how do they know not there to park?

No 'no parking sign', so they can park there. And in any case, this kind of behaviour is inexcusable.

because the tuktuk driver told them not too................simple

    they ignored him.............mistake

    Thai looses face...............watch out

French don't like authority and result is...............

  15. I suspect your tune would change if a drunk driver rammed into you head on

It was actually a sober driver that rammed into me head-on four years ago. If she had been drunk, maybe the outcome would have been better for me afterwards, rather than the mai-pen-rai, he's a foreigner, too bad, should not have come to Thailand to have the accident? Either way, the front end of a car at 100km/h hurts just as much no matter what the driver has in their blood.

I think Deez point was that the probability of it happening is much much higher if people are allowed to continue to drive whilst drunk, I would have thought this a prospect you would rather avoid considering your experience, please let us all know if it happens again - that is of course if you can still use your finger.

  16. I think that he is talking about brothels for Thai men. Many of the girls are indentured servants whose parents owe a lot of money. :)

This is what I though and hoped a topic that ran to 3 pages might be about... a sensible discussion on the inhumaine trafficing of girls, usually sold by their parents at a very young age, into the sex industry for the mainly Thai and other Asian clientel...

Instead it is a thread about some selfish tightwad who wants to buy a girl but doesn't like the price, but instead of saying "I'm a tightwad and don't like the price" is trying to justify his 'outrage' by calling it slavery... pathetic...

LOL, if I didn't know better you sound like a bar owner, its the principal - nothing more, greedy pissed off falangs in pattaya watching their investment turn to liquid.......makes me chuckle

PS was in a bar last night where a falang was trying to charge 125baht for a Thai whiskey, he lost the custom of 10 people over it for ever lol

  17. Dont pay 1 baht , i know many who have just walked away from a bar. have a good talk with your lady and come to some agreement. You have to think about this carefully as it may affect her future for a little while. Good luck to you and her.

I agree 100% with this, if you are sure you like her and want her to come stay with you then tell her to simply leave, to hel_l with the "friend" ahem that owns the bar, she can work leave stand on her head, she can do just about as she wishes, the bar pays her to work there not the other way round.

  18. don't think not wearing a helmet is an arrestable offence so it would have to be something else like a serious assault theft attempetd theft muder or attempted murder or even drunk driving, the provision for arrest is much the same in any country, there would need to be something pretty serious going on for a member of the public to perform such an act.

  19. while out last night I couldn't help thinking how stupid a lot of people where behaving with these potentially lethal devices, I personally know of 4 people that where injured by one of the rockets falling over and firing straight into a bar filled with people, one of the injuries was very serious and the young Thai girl remains in hospital with a neck injury, this girl almost lost her life, the hospital ER was inudated with various injuries, what is it that drives resposible adults to turn into stupid fools and spoil it for everyone...............................unbelievable
