  1. Singaporean thinks that they are more intelligent human being which what senior Lee want to have like Aaron human during WWWII,

Have depending on foreigner labour for centuries like Malaysia, Bangaldesh, India , Nepal and now China. Compact space of living and social discriminable was the factors on this riots.

Very True, I spent 25 years in Singapore and found the local Chinese population to be most arrogant and socially ignorant even though the younger population were reasonable well educated. It has often been referred to as a benovelent dictatorship to which in many aspects it is.

The disparity of the wealthy middle class and the migrant workers is not in my opinion the crux of this unrest as most migrant workers come to Singapore from regions where work and social conditions are far worse that what they have to tolerate in S'pore, however,I feel that it is the overbearing manner that all immigrant workers are treated including Caucasians by the Chinese overlords.

In my tenure in S'pore in a professional position I was financially well rewarded however hardly a day would pass without some reminder that if you were not a Singaporean then you were to one degree or other a second class citizen. I know little India very well and on Sundays I would avoid the place like the plague as the streets are awash with literately hundreds of Indian, Bangladesh and Arabic nationals ,most of who had menial and low paid jobs.

I feel that this unusual outburst of social unrest is more likely to have been fueled by the perception of social disparity rather than financial disparity. You do not have to peel the skin of the onion too far to find out just how racist this little country is.

It appears that a bus driver hit and killed one of the south asians who was walking in the middle of the road. This area of little India is full of low paid labourers who congegate there on the weekends to drink cheap beer. It is something which the authorities have turned a blind eye to as it is one of the few outlets available to them for some sort of entertainment on their one day off a week.

Many of those arrested will be caned and handed long jail terms, many more will be deported. That area of little India will no longer be available to south asian street drinkers and I would say there will be a crack down on any gatherings of imported labour, it can be deemed an illegal assembly if more than 5 persons gather in one place without first obtaining a permit. Expect to see this law used to break up undesireable groups.

the throng on the weekend evenings it that area covers the roads with socializing/networking south asians. cheap beer or alcohol doesn't exist in singapore, and is not part of the culture of south asians as it is for westerners. that area, little india, can rival the visible security cameras per square meter of any high security prison in the world. mostly no incidents ever occur there even with the thick throng of weekend celebrants.

in summary what happened is that the tightly strapped straight jacket that is singapore slipped briefly for a moment in time.

  2. perhaps the worse thing that could happen is open conflict to the point of UN involvement. that is what you definitely don't want. as has happened else where when the UN steps in they impose an alien constitution that bears no resemblances to the aspirations/values/cultures of either combatant. effectively making conflict of this sort useless in achieving any local aims. once that alien UN imposed constitution is in place you cant ever get rid of it.

you think corruption is endemic now? , just wait till the UN gets involved then you will really know what true unbridled corruption really isclap2.gifbah.gifw00t.gifsad.png

  3. change the laws to make it a requirement for a general election every two years then dissolve. that new law would then also short sheet coups and may reduce the incidence of street protests.

but she will still win it anyhow.

or perhaps a revolving election with part selected rotating electorates going to the polls every 6 months or so.

  4. hmm yes but first you have to go to, "do you believe what you read online at thaivisa?" vast amounts of stuff that is contrary to policy goes missing from here, add that to vast amounts of BS and obvious advertising. so you have to add 1 suspect to your original suspect before you can form an opinion.

me personally i stopped using thai post years ago. if i want to send things i do it when on visa run to malaysia or more critical stuff send from singapore.

read it fast because this post will probably disappear.

He'll still sell you 500 grams or in less quantities as he's extremely pleasant and helpful. His grown-up kids are also around to help support the business.

Business title to look for: BBI Co. Ltd. He supplies to all the retail stores in Thailand.

    https://www.google.com/search?q=BBI+Co.+Ltd.

Are you sure that going soi 36 will be ok ?

    Thanks.

yes they should be there. While I haven't been there in a while, I don't see why they'd shut down such an extensive business. I found this: http://goo.gl/IJdzMv. Not sure if the numbers are valid though but try them out.

got this http://goo.gl/maps/wouO1 but it's not soi 36

    also seperately http://www.thaicompanylist.com/en/company.php?company=3287_1&BBI_COMPANY_LIMITED

which puts it in "napha sap alley lane 3", above the "A" at http://goo.gl/maps/6lyjM

good luck. tell us what you find.

  6. Any other seeds that can be useful to eat daily ?

rolled oats (as in porridge) (german) from tops not expensive. good for the stomach. i eat them as is uncooked. not daily but in inter-spaced binges as with most else. sprinkled on a tin of tuna in brine (uncooked) also is a treat. try it before you discount it offhand.

also roasted and straight pumpkin seeds from 7-11, they got sunflower seeds too.

  7. The China ruling actually appears to be positive for Bitcoin from what I'm reading. They've essentially classified it as a commodity instead of a currency, which means that Bitcoin exchanges are free to trade Yuan for Bitcoin as they wish without the heavy handed government regulations and confiscations that US Bitcoin exchanges face. BTC exchanges in China are not "financial institutions", they're selling a commodity like rice, so they are free to proceed. Merchants and customers are also free to exchange using bitcoin. Banks and financial institutions cannot offer Bitcoin mutual funds or otherwise offer it to savers and investors, but it's fine for commerce.

That seems positive to me. I don't agree that Bitcoin cannot advance until it's a proper vehicle for savers. Savers will be the last group to adopt it. As someone said, "If my grandparents ask me how to conserve their wealth, I tell them to buy gold bullion. If they ask me how to transport it over distance, I tell them to send Bitcoin." Bitcoin is two things: the payment or transfer network, like PayPal, but also the currency unit (BTC) used on the network. It's as if PayPal had it's own currency unit. It's the utility of the network that should drive the growth, and since BTC is the only currency that can be used on the network and BTC are scare (fixed number of units), they should appreciate in value over time if the network's utility is recognized and adopted. With the current volatility in the price, it's true that current holders figure to be some combination of speculators and nerds (early technology adopters). But if merchants are agnostic and see bitcoin as an opportunity to pay lower fees on transactions, their adoption of the PayPal or network aspect of the technology could grow without savers. Perhaps someday an online merchant, when you place an order, can quickly direct you to a BTC exchange as they now direct you to PayPal, where you can instantly buy BTC for your currency and transfer them to the merchant, who can then instantly sell them and convert to his own currency. The customer woudn't need to BTC. The exchange would have to become a market maker, but isn't that hold gold/silver dealers do it, despite major swings in the metals prices?

As for whether a competitor could replace Bitcoin, they can and do copy the open source code and roll out new cryptocurrencies, but they can't easily replicate the infrastructure that's grown up around Bitcoin. How many miners are there in the other coins and who has even heard of those coins? Bitcoin has a nice head start and it should take years to catch up. What could they offer to offset Bitcoin's advantage, and why couldn't Bitcoin copy that anyway?

Whether it can be eplaced remains to be seen, but it should have utility and growth in the meantime.

I've been sitting on the sidelines watching Bitcoin until recently, but most of the negative comments in this thread have been rebutted in articles I've come across in just the last 72 hours. That doesn't mean that Bitcoin will ultimately survive, but it only takes a few days of research to see that the proponents of Bitcoin have given a lot more though to its problems than the naysayers. A lot of folks are just averse to change. It someone wishes that everyone would just stop changing things and leave them the way there are, there's little you can say to change those feelings.

    thank for this deeper lookthumbsup.gif

  9. China’s biggest search engine, stopped accepting Bitcoins after the nation’s central bank barred financial institutions from handling transactions, triggering a drop in the virtual currency.

    http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2013-12-07/baidu-stops-accepting-bitcoins-after-china-ban.html

someone with inside info knew in advance that something was afoot hence the recent bubble and now big drop.

will take some time to get past this hit. wonder who ordered it???

  10. In the condo we're renting the electricity is charged at the 'government rate' which is 4 baht a unit (give or take a satang). Not sure about the water but it's very cheap. Call me a Cheap Charlie if you want, but I refuse to pay double the amount for my electricity, here or at home.

well cheap charlie, if that what floats you boat so be it, but there are so many other factor that comprise a livable address and that if found i wouldnt be knocking it back for the sake of this small difference. but if you have the hide of a rhinoceros and breathe pure sulphuric acid fumes you probably wouldnt understand.

  11. the only thing that is a pain in the ass (or wherever ) is herpes. everything else is either airware or can be cured fast with the know meds. syph takes a little longer.

Aids can be cured fast with meds? News to me.

if aids was a real hetro transmissible disease, this region would have a few countries with zero population. now work backwards from there.

some of us have been here a LONG time and we are not all choir boys, and whats even more astounding for you is that we are in fact still here. and we also know even naughtier girlies who are also all still here. hmm perhaps choir boys isnt a good example but you get the drift.

There are a few antibiotic resistant strains of gonorrhea out there so it's no longer as simple as popping a couple pills.

BS. if it dont cure up you are using the wrong meds and it is something else.

  13. depends what you got in the room. if it has a lot of electric stuff they try to recover the costs of equipment by adding to the price of the electric. seem fair enough to me. pay for mileage so to speak. for no aircon room i have paid 5 to 6 baht/electric but these are low prices. unless you are a hog its not going to bankrupt you. pay more attention to other aspects of the room and less attention to this..

  14. the perrier they sell in asia must be a copy because it tastes like crap after you have dosed yourself with AURA for any length of time. aura even beats what is being pushes as evian here.

only one of the expensive waters is any good, it is.was sold in a opaque blue bottle in phnom penh a while back for $1 for a 1.5 liter bottle. think it was french origin but cant recall the name.

  15. didnt you know or are you just pretending to be stupid, its the in vogue thing with the murdering set worldwide.

if you shoot protesters or street rabble or dissidents you face possible court action because the aviators are protecting their right to mass murder with impunity, but if you use helicopter gunships, supersonic jets or unmanned aerial drones, you are one of the cool bunch and can smirk your way around the globe and receive unfaltering adulation.
