This heat wave is costing me a lot of money...

My usual electric bill in the condo cost around 1500, 1600 baht a month....Last months bill was

a whopping 3200 baht......This is my highest electric bill EVER in Thailand

I tried to not use the air so much but I was sweating like a pig in the condo with the aircon off...

3200 baht for one month of electricity is crazy......I would rather spend that money on more important things like drinking in bars....

They really should give farangs FREE electricity because we are not use to this heat like the Thais are.....

Has anyone else seen a big increase in their electric bill

If one has aircon, their bills are definitely higher at this time - why wouldn't they be?

  2. For those who seem to misunderstand what an "accident" is in the context of this topic:

An unfortunate incident that happens unexpectedly and unintentionally. I accept the principle of "an accident waiting to happen"

An event that happens by chance or that it is without apparent or deliberate cause.

The replies to my earlier point suggest that if someone is drunk or speeding for example and subsequently cause a collision that it is not an accident. It is!

It's true, the offending driver caused the collision but whether someone is to blame or not, it is still an accident - unless the incident was deliberately motivated.

  3. I calculated from research last year that the increase in my British pension would be worth now just over 50% more than now, cumulative over 14 years.

If I add to this figure a more favorable exchange rate from the B46 now from those days - closer to B65

If I add the possibility of living in Philippines where I believe increase are still being paid and their exchange rate of around PHP to THB hovers around 65, my pension would be worth at least 75% more than when I first received it!

Given that the greatest burden of old age and equivalent demands on the NHS are zero when living abroad I am disappointed that the freezing of every increase for ever is seemingly justified by the British Government.

When I was paying National Insurance contributions for 40 years that were only ever increased, I feel it is only fair in my pensionable age that I receive the increases they reflect. After all, until Brexit, agreements in the EU meant that wherever an expat lived in one of those member countries, annual increases would be paid. Do they now not receive further increases?

Can we fight this? Of course not, we are forgotten citizens!

  4. Carrying sticks makes you the aggressor. Soi dogs don't like being threatened. They are not looking to attack or bite every person they meet. Staying calm is not easy in the face of potential danger but a good strategy.

Thais dont like Soi dogs and many of them carry sticks and I have only observed that makes the dogs angrier, so people like me  have to work harder to keep their peace.

I have been bitten twice while out biking requiring hospital treatment and neither of them were soi dogs.

Soi dogs are a problem, I agree.

  5. Matters relating to retiring to Thailand are entirely determined by personal circumstances and desires!

I have lived alone, albeit seven years ago, that I did for about six years around the Chiang Mai area, no commitments, no car, three small houses each self-contained with a garden in the countryside (B5000 for all three - really good for me! Not slumming it in the slightest!!

Can live on a monthly expenditure of a good deal less than B20,000 (closer to B15,000) per month and having everything I need and desire!

The question about "how much" money can be very low with considerations in my first sentence.

The point I am making is that some people want an inexpensive living and I have proven that it is possible as a single person.

So back to my first sentence, if we are talking more people, children, education, cars, etc, one doesn't have to manage or cater for as a single.

From a low baseline that is easily possible, the only way is UP in the form of more necessities and luxury (desires)

Yes, I know, personal circumstances might include Health insurance, live in Bangkok, Phuket  and so on but I speak for what is possible for an everyday living without "what if' eventualities.

There are other factors such as home cooking, biking, local transport - sawngthows for example

None of this is part of my current circumstances - but I am retired in Thailand for 21 years, now living with my Thai wife in her very nice house.

It is not, even under the current unfortunate xenophobic climate.

For about 100 Euros, you get a few drinks and hour to chose the nymphet you can do back in your hotel. That's still cheap.

It is a rip off. It is an overcharge, it is exploitation and abuse of power ( I can so I do) This topic is about drinks - no mention on the bill for lady accompaniment. In addition, there will be a substantial charge in the form of a bar fine B500 minimum if the girl then goes orf with 'im

No such thing as Euros here - this is Thailand And I don't see the connection with "xenophobia"

But the men are mostly happy with it and very little actually illegal about it.

  7. Before you automatically condemn your old OMRON, check with a couple of other people to see if measures are showing discrepancies, also get a measure from someone else's monitor and compare.

I bought a new one about three months ago OMRON 7121 from Lazada. (a specialist Supplier). My old one simply wasn't working any more.

Over more than a year now, I have taken more than 2,000 measurements and there is a tendency for great variation even between three within a few minutes.

It all averages out at 110/70 for the entire period - yes, I record it all.

I don't have a blood pressure condition and never have but as I get older I recognise the need to keep an eye on it.

  8. I know what it is like to operate a health and fitness schedule for more than 40 years but I will not be a slave to it.

There are many hotels in Bangkok that have excellent facilities and nice pools but it seems for you it has to be perfect or...

Make do while you are away from your regular facilities and accept that any perceived shortcomings will have little or no effect on your fitness levels.

What is a 'stupid idiot'? A genius, perhaps?

Lets think of something new here,

There is no such thing as a "stupid idiot". On an official classification scale, "idiot" is the lowest measure of intelligence; imbecile comes next and moron third in the "higher" group

What there is though is a  morosoph  (a learned fool)

I don't know of a definition of a "stupid" person but could include those terms above to describe some of their actions and behaviours

I would say that everyone on this forum is not stupid per se but from time to time they say and do stupid things.
