  1. Helmets do NOT prevent accidents - some helmets worn in Thailand will NOT prevent head injuries. Some may contribute to injuries.

In North East Thailand during the week-end,

during the hours of darkness, during the rain - the skulls of Thailand's motorcyclists and their passengers are impervious to injury.

Children as young as 7 years old drive the siblings on motorcycles without head-gear, without any adherence to traffic law. Without a license, without insurance.

THe Police do NOT know the law, 95% of police cannot charge a person with a traffic offence. Only collect money for unpaid road tax, having no license and not wearing some sort of excuse for a proper safety helmit.

Whose to blame ??? The Government, The Police, The Parents, The Schools, The idiots that ride motorcycles stupidly without any idea of the rule of the road.

  2. In so far as I am aware ,there is no direct Ubon- Udon V.I.P.. You can take V.I.P. from Ubon to Buriram, then 1st class (short journey) Buriram to Khon Kaen, then 1st or V.I.P., to Nong Khai. To do this in 1 day ,you will need to take V.I.P., dep. Ubon at 12.15.Your rail alternative is Ubon- Ayutthya-Nong Khai. Happy travelling

Thanks, I took Finlaco's advice and phoned TAT in Ubon

Rachathani - Tel 045-314 299. Very helpful staff provided the following info : Ubon Rachathani >> Udon Thani every hour from 0530 until 1330 hrs

Ubon Rachathani >> Nong Khai one bus @ 0900 hrs

  3. I believe that you will need to take a bus from Ubon to Udon Thani and then change to Nong Khai.

There are two bus stations in Udon, so make sure you know if u are arriving/departing from the old or new bus stations

If you google TAT Thailand and then drill down to Ubon and Udon, there will be a listing for the relevant TAT office. I regularly call the various TAT regional offices and get reasonable information. Just be patient cos usually u need to explain to the TAT staff, that 'I don't know' isn't an answer and perhaps someone else might know ..... be patient and u'll eventually get the answer

    Finlaco,

    THank you

  4. It makes you wonder (just a little bit) if THIS might be the payoff for Victor B.

Extradition of Thaksin to Thailand from the US? It would make me proud :)

What an excellent idea !! Fugitive Taksin to face the charges of slaughtering Burmese who crossed the northern Thai border during drug searches for amphetamines crossing via the Mae Nam Kok river. Over 1500 men were shot under Taksin's orders.

  5. The very first thing required in Thailand is good every day English spoken by the academics. Prof Pramote Pras artful's use of the term "qualitative" cannot be applied to the children.

Why not use the term "well educated" or a well rounded education.

The use of the Thai script in Thailand's education system is the major drawback in provide literacy skills. The standard of English spoken and written by 95% of Thailand's teachers is appalling.

Do away with the Thai script - bring thousands of native English speaking teachers and and children into the schools.

Have at least one English TV channel

BTW.. The use of the Terms "Qualitative and Quantitative"

Refer to the way Research is conducted -- That is to say

    Qualitative Research or Quantitative Research.

During a scientific project an individual scientist may use quantitative research and later use qualitative research.

  6. Tawp if as you say is true, that it's not the drivers making the money, then why do we have so many?

Why do you think there are so many?

Is it not the case that there are many tourists who have little option? Where is the underground train that was due to start operations on the King's birthday?

Why have ThaiAir cancelled flying to Ubon Rachathani?

This Airport and its management has been a shambles from the day it opened.

  7. WHAT a Super destination, take a holiday snap, get arrested - give people money, lose it in a Thai style Nigerian SCAM,.

Get blown to pieces in southern Thailand. Get delayed by yellow/red shirt activities.

Don't hire a jet Ski. Get ripped off at Thailand's main airport on arrival or when you have had enough.

Malaysia is a lot more honest.

  8. IF YOU ARE PLANNING A HOLIDAY IN THAILAND - DO NOT BRING A CAMERA OF ANY DESCRIPTION.

IF YOU BUY ONE IN THAILAND, DO NOT TAKE ANY PICTURES OR VIDEO - EVEN HOLIDAY SNAPS !!

IF YOU DO YOU ARE IN DANGER OF BEING ARRESTED AND CHARGED WITH BEING ANTI-TOURIST.

THE TERM "ANTI-TOURIST" is RESERVED for THE THAILAND TOURIST BOARD and the Police.

  9. Well if they didnt find any printing equipment etc how can they charge him with "Forgery" ? I dont buy his story about pulling the dodgy notes from an ATM in England, but its easily checked by the Banks in England. Sounds like the guy just bought some dodgy notes down the pub and thought he could pass them off as real whilst on Holiday - silly boy! :)

Where does the report mention anything about an ATM withdrawal ??

"He told police he withdrew 1,500 pounds from a branch of Lloyds TSB in England before coming to Thailand on holiday last month."

In fact if it was possible to withdraw those particular notes from an ATM - then it is probable that they would NOT be counterfeit, as the bank's processing of notes prior to loading the ATM is very thorough.

  10. AoT will act swiftly against staff caught stealing.

They will be fired and the contracted company that hired them will face legal consequences.

A firm whose staff steal from passengers' bags more than three times will have its contract terminated, Mr Piyaphan said.

If luggage theft occurred, it was contracted staff who were responsible.

Who is meant to act swiftly? AoT or the Contracting Company?

Why not hand them over to the Police ?

    What legal consequences ?

    Why 3 times ?

Why is it the Contracted staff who are responsible ?

In other words AoT is not responsible, like most of the work it has contracted out !!!

It could be an opportunity to examine Pr. Piyaphan's own contract

  11. This ruling was given out 7 weeks ago by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to Thailand's Embassies and Consulates in South East Asia. Not the ministry that the Police and Immigration report to.

It does seem that the Ministry of Tourism and that for Finance were able to persuade Foreign Affairs to drop the 1,000 baht fee for the visa - however the Xenophobics in the latter ministry have countered with adding a further restriction which it appears to now being enforced by the Penang Consulate.

The ability to obtain multiple entry tourist visas has existed for over 10 years - it appears that wheels turn very slowly in Thailand's Bureaucracy.

Sometimes one wonders at the actions of governments - but the example of the police harassment of motorcyclists eg.. The driver not wearing a helmet , but it is quite fine for 2/3 passengers not to have helmets. And there are lots of other examples.

  12. It is almost unbelievable that these so-called experts are totally divorced from reality : one does not have to be a epidemiologist (which I am) to understand that the request for Government "to tell people to avoid crowded places in order to slow down the increase in the H1N1 virus' fatality and infection rates" is patently rubbish , when one wonders how people will get to work, how children will get to school, how people will go to their markets??

What? close all factories, businesses, schools, transport systems. Switch all air conditioners. Close the Health centres and hospitals. Just in my little town with big schools the Sorng Theos arrive and leave with as many as 20 on a pickup, on the light truck as many as 40 children CRAMMED together.

Where do these idiots come from??? They might have read of Canute.
