The airport is a 98% covid free secured environment and you want to venture into a 25% environment because you "don't feel like it". Come on man, use your head. I have a suggestion for you. Go to any airport lounge, pay a few extra bucks, and have a meal, relax in a lounger, have a few drinks and decompress. Time will fly by and you will not have the hassle of checking back into the airport. Most importantly, less chance of picking up a bug in transit.

It was under renovation at the start of covid. It appears that all work has stopped. The whole beach side of hotel was demolished and the rooms gutted. So best to look for another hotel for you next visit to Lamui.

I don't know about for retirement, but I have been pleasantly surprised with Cambodia. The last 2 years, before covid, I did some side trip travelling in Cambodia and enjoyed myself immensely. One of the drawbacks is the lack of good beaches. Before I would decide on Cambodia, I would need 6 months or longer stay(s) to get a good feel for the country.

In order for evil to florish you just need good people to stay silent.
