  1. For sure Cuban they definately emptied it, I saw it myself, and got whacked for the payment to!

A common scam here in Pattaya is to stick the hose in for 5 mins and show you a wet surface around the tank and then put the hose away and give you a bill, in effect they have barley pumped anything out. You say you saw them do it, did you look into the tank with a torch after they finished? did you check the tanker before and after to see if it had been filled? I know a number of people round here have been scammed by this as no one wants to look into a tank full of sewage! I had mine emptied after two years because of the smell but it has not really improved matters so now Im looking for a blocked drain!

  2. John, get yourself a second simcard from a different provider!

Thanks Monty I will try that, the bizarre thing is it shows me online and I can get my e mail just cannot open any pages! (its ok today) and yes the PC is clean, hard drive fine etc just seems to be 1 2 call. Will get a dtac card at the weekend.

  3. I have no phone therefore have to rely on GPRS, I have been offline for three weeks as the speed was so slow I couldnt even download my homepage! came back on Sunday then went of again this morning but back online tonighT! I have waited two years for a phone line and every time I go into enquire they tell me I have to reapply! Old application no good! I suppose on the plus side I have no monthly phone bills and the way its going Im unlikely to have any in the forseeable future!

  4. The obvious starting point would be to engage a good Thai lawyer, ask among your friends here who they recommend, also if you can get hold of your daughters birth certificate you can add her to your passport valid until she reaches 16. Assuming she holds dual nationality and you can get her on your passport then a quiet departure during a school day should not prove too difficult. In other words. book the flight, tell no one then pick her up and leave the country. Apart from that I think its the lawyer avenue which could be drawn out and costly.

  5. 60 is only a number! I took up diving at 57 and did the advanced course at 60! I am now working towards Master Scuba Diving, I have three sons and wish I had spent more time with them, I never liked sport but I did like swimming but was always too busy to take them! Take your boy swimming and have some quality time with him then you may get some surprises when he asks "Papa" to take him somewhere. Forget about what his sexuality may or not be, westerners get hung up on this, we are what we are most gay men will tell you they were born gay its not something you sit down one day and decide "Oh I like that boy I better turn gay" or Oh that girl is gorgeous I think I will be hetro" Hi is 10!!! let him develop, reading your post I guess there has been no father figure in his life so naturally he gravitates to his Mum! Give him a chance with some quality time even if its something you find boring, the rewards will be immessurable and your life will be enriched.

We only have one chance at life! this is not a rehersal make the best of it and I admire you for asking such deep searching questions on this forum, its obvoius you care deeply for him and want the best and hope you and your son have a long and loving relationship.

  6. One of my dogs loves apples the other will not touch them! at three months maybe time to upgrade to adult food? I give both of mine tesco dog food (chicken) I tried beef once and they puked it up, same when I bought some nice doggy chicken in gravy, back it came. So now they get one tin plus 200g of dried food each every day and seem to thrive on it. In fact the girl is now pregnant so I will have a few Thai husky pups running around soon! If your pup goes completely of their food then it could be a digestive problem plus their body may have problem with the sugar. Believe it or not a friend back home had a dog that was diagnosed with diabetes!!

  7. Colour blindness doesn't mean you can't see different colours. When you're colour blind your eyes are more suceptable to some colours than they are others. For example I am red/green (the most common) colour blind, I see blue as normal but I see green more vividly than normal and I only see about 80% of red that nomal people would see. I still see the same colour reds and greens that everybody else sees, just not the same strengths. So when there's a number hidden in the dots it's more difficult for a colour blind person to see it. If you just show them a single primary colour they will see the same colour as you do, if you show them a mixed colour such as brown (red and green mixed) they will see a different shade to you (however as he was told that colour was brown thats what he'll call it). Most of the time it's not a problem and we can still see the colour of the traffic lights.

Thanks for that clarification, that makes sense and presumably the poster will have no problem.

  8. paid for the licence I fished out a 1000 baht note and when the 500 baht change was offered the notes were spread like a fan, the implication obvious. I left behind one of the 100 baht notes.

That was a bit excessive! The one year licence is 105 baht!

was in the same position, had a UK licence but knew I was colour blind. There's no need to worry. In the Pattaya office they have a large chart on the wall covered in different coloured dots (looks like a large page from one of those colour blindness books but without a hidden number) and somebody just points to different dots and asks you what colour they are. It's as simple as that.

But those dots are coloured! the whole idea is that you can identify different colours therefore if the poster is colour blind how will he know the difference? It may well be they only have a problem with specific colours in which case he may be OK!

  9. You cannot take the written test in the afternoon, you can get a licence with an IDP , done it three times with friends/partners and renewed mine last May in the afternoon.

Did my friends last Month at 3pm, no problem, he did the three checks listed above and was out in 20 mins.

  10. No test required in Pattaya if you have an IDP except for the three small tests in the office which are, depth perception, reaction test and colour test all done in 2 mins.

You will need a medical certificate despite some reports to the contrary, these can be obtained from any doctors surgery for around 100baht, you will also need a certificate of residence (Jomtien Immigration 200baht) or a work permit. Dont forget some pics, two for each licence and copies of your passport, main page, visa page etc.

Take a pen and if you can someone thta speaks Thai, around mid afternoon it gets quiet early mornings are normally mahem! I think thats it.

  11. If a retired Englishman, receiving a UK State pension and living permanently in Thailand, marries a Thai national will he be entitled to an increase in that pension?

Any information on this subject will be gratefully received.

This is a complicated subject not least because of the pensions reform act 2007, however the firts place to look is http://www.thepensionservice.gov.uk/atoz/a.../retirement.asp, from there you can e mail the Pension Service direct with your questions.

  12. I have found the camera I want its retailing at 11000 baht here, the same model is 170$ plus 45$ shipping in the USA which comes in at around 7650baht, my question is if its shipped by ups what tax will I be charged when it arrives from the States? Or will it just be delivered with no tax (customs) ?

  13. As above is it boy or girl? initially just some babygrows in neutral colours (white, lemon) you are bound to get loads of gifts when the child is born and believe me they quickly grow out of everything! And of course disposable nappies (diapers) some vests, rubber pants and a nice shawl to wrap him/her in.

A moses basket or crib for sleeping, a buggy for trips out Bottle or breast fed? if the former you need bibs, bottles, sterilizer, teats etc. Breast is best! it builds up babys immune system and is more hygenic. Cant think of anything else offhand as its a few years since my last (fifth) was born! Imn sure I will think of something!

Oh earplugs for nights so you can get some sleep hahahah

  14. I have two AIS sim cards and never used a pin code for either, however, my AIS user manual it shows a picture of the label on your box that the phone came with this shows the P/N number, IMIE number and your mobile number and says in Thai , call AIS call centre 1175

  16. This a common variety normally found on country roads and is known as a Dead Snake, usually after the passing fo a motorbike but can be found in gardens where they meet with shovels or some similar heavy implement and again can be recognised by the bruising, loss of blood, seperation of body etc.

  17. I couldnt find a refill for my filofax this time last year so this year I had a friend bring one out when they were on holiday! Some of us dont need the expence of a blackberry etc for a few simple reminders hence my filofax still suits me.

  18. Proposals to cut the time tourists from outside the EU can stay in the UK from six months to three are expected to be announced by ministers this week.

The move is among measures aimed at further tightening the visa system.

A deposit of at least £1,000 to be paid by families who want relatives to visit Britain will also be introduced.

  19. The correct way to address this problem IMHO would have been to go back to the restaurant and report the problem with medical evidence (if available) and give them the opportunity to investigate if they were the source and if is so to put the problem right. A similar incident occured in another well known restaurant on Jomtien Road earlier this year, in this instance the diners were refunded, all medical expenses were met and they were invited back for a free meal. The kitchen etc was blitzed and the staff reminded of strict hygene procedures. This is the way to go and not telling the restaurant and just posting about the incident is a trifle irresponsible.
