  1. Ok just to clarify, it's only my friend who has no work permit. Informing the authorities would only be used as a power play to get the school to pay for the overstay fine of 20,000. No other teachers at the school would be affected as they all have work permits. Are there any consequences for schools hiring without a work permit or do all the consequences fall on the head of the employee?

  2. I am posting on this forum on behalf of a friend. My friend is now looking at a 20,000 baht fine for overstay as the school they work for has lied to them every week about funding and visa assistance. Surely 20,000 out of a 30,000 salary is worthy of appearing like a "bad apple". There is only 1 teacher working at this school with no work permit so it would only be the school that was affected. My question still hasn't been answered

  3. If you knew the reasons behind me considering informing the authorities you would understand, I assure you. This school has been lying to teachers promising them visa and work permit assistance. Then every week just moving the goalpost. Now some teachers have found themselves working without a permit under false promises

  4. Hi,

Can a school get a fine for hiring teachers with no work permit?

My school is trying to shaft financially and they have teachers here with no work permit

If I was to tell the police/authorities about this, what would happen?

I'm aware of what would happen to the teachers working with no work permit, but I specifically want to know about the consequences the school will have to face (if any)

    Thanks

  5. Hey,

I would like to know if there any hotels that have a nice swimming pool where I can chill

I don't want to stay over night at the hotel

I just want to have somewhere to go at the weekends to relax with a beer and some good food

I'm happy to sneak in or just pay my way by eating and drinking lots

    Any advice would be appreciated

    Thanks people :-)

  6. ok so i'm hoping my director will have the log book.

I don't have a RC but I do have a work permit and a passport so I hope that will do

I'm Interested about "power of attorney"

If it can be done without the two of us being present then this might make my 1st month in CM easier

  7. thought I would ask another question as there are some experienced riders following this thread

I have just realised that I could finish my payments on my click before I move to Chiang Mai

The bike is currently in my directors name

What should I do to get the bike transferred into my name

Paying it all off will result in me being broke for my first month in CM

But i'm guessing this will be better than potentially having to travel back to south Thailand just to sign a bit of paper once it's all been paid off

Any thoughts would help a lot

    Thanks

  8. thanks for the posts. I have decided to get a ninja now.

I will decide about new or secondhand depending on what the dealer says in CM

I will buy the safety gear first because I actually came off my click last night :-(

I'm ok but have a big graze on my knee and my jeans are ruined

definitely a lesson learnt without too much consequence

It makes sense to buy the gear first that way i can progress towards my dream and be safe from day one

I'm thinking i should get white leathers to help with the heat

    Any thoughts?

  9. I guess i'm inpatient and I want to own a bike that I can enjoy asap

I'm looking at bike porn every day and want to fast track so to become a reality soon

I have read mixed opinions about the whole work permit gives you credit issue

The whole reason my click is in my directors name is because I couldn't get credit from honda

Do you know of anywhere specific in Chiang Mai that will give credit if a work permit is shown as honda definitely wont

    Thanks

...sincerely hope you are not teaching ESL...?rolleyes.gif

dont worry i'm not an english teacher. I'm a guitarist who teaches music. im glad i invested the time to master my instrument instead of grammar as it's paid off now.

  10. When I lived in the UK I never had any interest in motorbikes

The last year before I left a newly acquired friend had an R1 and my best mate bought a daytona 675 new!!! (what a bike!!!)

This sowed the seed and now all I think about is bikes (and women)

I bought a click which is a logical step up from a push bike and got bored in 2 months

I'm reading what you are saying so I hope I can find the patience to save

Maybe I could just rent a bike for a day every now and again.

That way I can get my fix and save in the meantime

Ninja 300 is the number 1 choice but If i put 10 away every month it will be 18 months before i get one

That is a lifetime to me

But I am still unsure of my pay come June so maybe It could come sooner

A second hand CBR or ninja 250 I could get very soon

Louis blackbird how much do you want for the cbr?

    Are you in Changers?

  11. I have indeed been bitten by the bike bug.

The reason I want a small bike is because I have no desire to travel faster than 170kph but acceleration is a real buzz for me.

I have already had a nasty experience of travelling too fast and hitting a pothole so I think a 500cc would be too big as it would be my nature to ride it fast.

Also it's for financial reasons. I could buy it but it would leave me with very little. Part of me wants to stop at 300cc simply because I will feel safer at a lower speed

  12. In the UK I ran my own music school

I am currently teaching at a school in Thailand

I would like to set up a music school in Chiang mai. A small school that opens in the evening and at weekends

What would the first steps be?

If I have the start up money and found a suitable venue

Can I work at the school in the day and run the music school in the evenings

I have a work permit for the daytime school

Can i set up a business and still work at my current school?

    Thanks

  13. I am talking about international brands that are manufactured in Thailand

I have read nothing but bad news about Thai brands

I have considered many things with regards to my first purchase of a big bike

However I am unsure of the importance of where these bikes are made

Something under 200k would be nice

Owned 6 Thai assembled and manufactured bikes without any problems. Most Thai assembled and manufactured bikes are also sold abroad. Incl Europe and the US. Kawasaki manufactures all up to 650cc 2 cylinders bikes (only) in Thailand for the global market.

Personally I am only interested in locally produced (Intl. brand) bikes because of price (incl parts), resale value and the fact that it is easy to service.

Ducati, Honda, Kawasaki and BMW is on its way, to name a few.

Great thats just what i needed to hear

Providing i can get the finance i will probs go for a ninja, klx, cbr or crf

Now i just need to decide hmmmm.....

  14. I thought the police fined people who have no licence

There must be some disadvantage to not doing the test otherwise no one would do it

I would prefer to have it as every time i go pass the cops I panic

What are the advantages of doing the test as i'm guessing its about as thorougher as everything else here

  15. Ok i'm gonna guess that the reason I was denied finance was because I live in south Thailand and they don't have many foreigners around here.

I hope this is the case

Maybe my director didn't feel comfortable being a guarantor and was safer for her to have it in her name

I really hope I can get finance when I go to Chiang Mai. I will probably go for something a little bigger if that's the case

    Fingers crossed

  16. With regards to sport (looking) bikes and dirtbikes/dualsports with a engine size no bigger than 300cc

    What is the best option?

I have read that people have problems with bikes that are manufactured in Thailand

    Is this true?

I guess a bike that is made in Thailand is easy to repair

But a bike made in japan for example will not need many repairs

Safety is a big issue for me

    Thanks
