  2. Hi folks

    My friends wife has been told by the Thai Embassy in London that the earliest appointment available is 27th Sept, however they are due to travel to Spain 9th October. With a waiting period of 6 weeks from appointment date to receiving new passport, its cutting it fine or even too late depending on my first question;

    The 27th is a Monday so will this be considered as a full week included in the 6 week period waiting for the passport to arrive?

    Has anyone managed to get an earlier appointment with the Embassy upon request?

    They are telling my friends wife it is not possible, which I think is a bit unfair seen as though its 4 months away from travel. Hardly leaving it till the last minute.

    Kop khun kap.

  3. Hi folks

    I trying to make an appointment for my wife to re-new her Thai passport but I can't through on their incredibly annoying phone system.

    I must have tried at least 20-30 times as from the beginning of this week, only to get through to the same grating tones of an annoying cockney accent in a recorded message. Arrrhhh :)

    I emailed them yesterday too, and guess what, no response.

    Anyone have a number combination to tap in when you phone up that actually gets you through to someone.

    Thanks

  4. Hi All,

    Does my friend need to do anything regarding taking his prescribed medication with him to Thailand on holiday?

    Ie; fill out extra forms or go through customs declaration ect??

    The only reason I'm asking is because it is not normal medication. He had a brain tumor operation last year and is on;

    Keppra 250mg

    Epilim Controlled release tablets 250 and 500

    Any help is much appreciated.

  5. Hi Guys

    I know this has been covered before but I've searched the site and can't find anything specific.

    My wife and I want visit the Canarie Islands next month. Will she need a schengen visa or are these Islands exempt?

    If she does require a visa do we have enough time to get it? How much are they?

    Has anyone been to the Canaries with their partner with experience of this?

    Thanks guys

  6. Hi folks

    I'm would just like to know as I'm in the process of corresponding with a possible future employer to work in Thailand.

    I'm British, the employer is British but the company was set up in Australia.

    I would be working on-site at the customer, which is in Thailand. I think it may the customer who has to apply for the work permit for me.

    I know I have to apply for a non-immigrant visa, but I don't know which type?

    Can I apply at The Royal Thai Embassy in Liverpool for the non-im visa?

    How do I apply / how long does it take to process?

    Thanks very much

  7. Cheers Scouse

    We are also currently in the process of buying a house. I wasn't going to mention this as I didn't want to confuse matters with our address ect..

    By the time we send off the application we should have a completion date with the house, if not before.

    Should I document this in the letter, or is it okay to leave it as is. ie, stating that we live at my Mums still?

    Thanks

  8. Hi everyone,

    I just have a couple of concerns regarding my wifes up coming settlement visa application, (form SETM).

    Firstly we don't have any letters addressed to us in joint names. Secondly I'm not sure that the letters we do have will be sufficient in the number required.

    We have addressed in my wifes name;

    1 NHS Card

    1 Tax rebate letter (they won't class this as a benefit will they?)

    Several (say send 5??) Payslips

    Several (say send 5??) Bank statements

    1 Provisional Driving License

    1 NI number/letter

    In my name;

    NHS Card

    Payslips

    Bank Statements

    Driving license

    AA letter/membership

    Now I've wrote it all out it's actually more than I thought we had! If I include a cover letter stating the reason we have no utility and our current circumstances, we should be okay right?

    Also, when you send off the application, what happens if there is no response from them before the visa expires? Is it okay to assume that your application is being dealt with and if the visa expires not to worry?

    Thank you

  9. Hi folks

    Just want to double check...

    The missis got her visa 19/06/06

    She arrived in the UK 25/06/06

    So that means I can send her ILR application off by post after the 28/05/08 which is 28 days before the date she arrived 2 years ago. Her actual visa expires 19/06/08 and 28 days before that is 22/05/08, but I can't apply imediately after that date because she won't have completed the full period.

    So anytime after the 28/05/08 is okay right? haha :o

    Thanks

  10. My missis has passed the ESOL course.

    We had to take this option as were running out of time and we don't think she stood much chance of passing the Life in UK test.

    I think the course was 40 hrs @ £10 per hour, £400. It was worth the cost though IMO, as I think it saved alot of time and stress. If you've got enough time, I'd definately do the course, or better still do the free government one that starts in September, beware this may take ages though. Actually not even sure if there is still a free course.

    The main thing is to make sure it is the right course, ie, with Citizenship included.

    If your in the Northwest I can give you the number. The course was in Bolton.

    Goodluck

  11. Hi

    Does anybody know of this website thaitv.tv ??

    I'm trying to find out for a friend who is thinking of subscribing to it. The cost is £60 per year. I just want to check theres nothing dodgy about it ect...

    Apparantly you get all the Thai TV channels and so on. Can anyone confirm this?

    Thanks

  12. Hi folks

    Today the missis passed her ESOL course. It was a verbal exam in which she had to answer questions posed by the lady who came down from the home office. Then they had to have conversations with each other about various different everyday life situations.

    In total she had to attend college for 6 full days plus a day yesterday for revision and today for the exam itself. The teacher said she would phone her a week on Friday with her actual score and she will receive her certificates 3 weeks from now. So for anybody in the same situation this course is definately worth it.

    All thats left to do now is gather all our letters and bank statements in prep for applying for ILR. The teacher also said that if my wife wants to apply for British Citizenship (ie, British Passport) then she can do the second level of ESOL course as the one she has just undertaken was ESOL level 1. For British Citizenship, level 2 is required. Is this correct? Also can we apply for British Citizenship instead of ILR or at the same time as ILR, thus saving applying for it in the future? Cheers guys.

  13. Just to let you know, this course was too good to be true. The bloody teacher said she had a meeting with the home office on the second day of the course so class was cancelled that day. Then on the Thursday she called my wife to tell her not to come in as she was sick. So that means my wife is 12 hours behind already and it's causing us a nightmare with her work getting the time off. If she passes though it will be worth it.
