1 million dollars ,multiply by zero = ive still got 1 million dollars ............do i not ?
Actually no. I know zero's a relatively new concept for farang, we got it from the Muslims of Spain (Moors), but would've thought we'd be used to using it by now.
Try this way - you've got zero dollars, and I say I'm a million times richer than you. We've both got zero.
The color blue's a million times more evil than orange. . .

I don't understand the premise. For instance, The US is often called "the melting pot" because it was inhabited by people of all races and many ethnicities.
On the other hand, the US has strict and difficult immigration policies. So is it tolerant of immigrants? I think the average Joe would rate well if discussing racism, but immigration is a different topic.
I think you'll find US policies not so strict and difficult compared to many, and it's mostly dictated by the huge numbers that are TRYING to get in.
By far the highest proportion of immigrants in the world are in the US - 46 million, or 15% of the US population wasn't born there.
Only 40% of US population growth is coming from the locals spawning, 60% is from immigration.
Just LA has over 5 million Asians, in Hawaii they're now the majority.
And most reasonable Americans realize this is one of the primary engines of our technological innovation and economic growth.
You just need to have enough money or the right skillset - or be a beautiful TG and charm a silly Yank 8-)

There are no "survey" questions !
The project utilises multiple data sources which is why I directed you to the last two links I provided .
An examination of those pages will explain how the outcomes are achieved.
Even more information here if a good read is wanted !
Thanks much for that last link, I guess the way their site is doing the collapsible javascript isn't working in my Chrome setup.
The only information from the PDF says that the "Tolerance for immigrants" factor comes from a Gallup World Poll - so that sure sounds like a survey to me.
How else could you have anything objective, ranking comments on forum discussion boards?
Be great to get further details, look forward to finding out more as they're available.

Its all about the same thing... Money - nothing else.
not really.. many bar girls are looking for good husbands as well... western whores are not.. A Western whore is a million times worse than a thai bar girl... because they truly only do it for the money even though they have the option to do other things.
A million times "worse".
Remember anything multiplied by zero is still zero.
It doesn't matter whether a sex worker needs the money to feed her starving child or wants to buy a nice new handbag, whether she chooses to go with twenty guys a night to maximize her revenue or is looking for that one special sponsor who will take care of her long-term.
There is nothing "wrong" with choosing to sell your body, nothing at all.
Doesn't matter if you choose that career over being a real estate agent or a preacher or a teacher.
Now if you're saving up your money because you want to develop some new deadly bio-terror weapon, OK then it's your motive that's evil, but your choice to trade sex/companionship for money, is anyone's right to make and it's all good.

Yes your top-posting is most annoying, grounds for banning in many communities, if we ask nicely do you think you could stop it?
Pretty please?
I want readers who are contemplating a move to Thailand to read my opinion of realities. If cheap sex is not their priority, or wives, maids or massages or any of the other exploitative reasons foreigners flock to Thailand, they may well find it frustrating to be viewed as third or fourth tiered persons.
I would not presume to restrict your opinions , why would you try to do exactly that to mine? Frankly, when I read the ridicule of criticism and attempts to restrict other's opinions, it's usually because elements of uncomfortable truths are involved.
Many foreigners actually have businesses that depend on other foreigners visiting Thailand, they are not impartial and may well actually do a bit of... well bald- faced lying. (They pick it up from the locals..)
Well there certainly is enough warning material here without the same whinging having to be constantly repeated all day every day.
If you are sick of hearing about Thailand's criticisms, may I suggest you not spend time reading them on a forum where a large proportion of posters are going to do exactly that.
But that IS exactly what I'm complaining about, but as you point out probably pointlessly.
Oh well, at least don't complain about me complaining about your complaining.

Yes I did state that wasn't a credible site.
Very interesting, looks like a good project.
Any idea how to find the actual survey questions?
Look here for detail about the methodology
So I guess that's a 'no'.
Thanks anyway. . .

You are really weird. All women that have some kind of financial interest in their partner are basically prostitutes, when it comes down to it.
Yes weird. And it also say a lot about him as a person
Well if it's a given that there is nothing wrong with sex work, he's just broadening the definition beyond how most people would use it.
It's only if you think it's a pejorative term that you would take offense.
It's another "how long is a piece of string", all grey-scale gradations, no hard-edged lines between the various semantic categories.
People do choose their mates in the marriage market at least partly based on practical considerations - to do anything else is just stupid.
Some do so exclusively on that basis, to some (I would suggest those not desperately poor) it's of relatively little relevance.

> Yes of course common usage dictates what is correct in language.
>
> English doesn't have a "Académie Française" to attempt to officially moderate the language.
Absence of a such a central authority does not mean that sloppy usage and poor diction are acceptable. They are not. There are standards.
The diminishing of "university" as a designation distinct from "college" by suggesting they are the same is sloppy and inaccurate.
The attempt to aggrandize one's attendance at a college as being the same as one's graduation from a university is one I will not accept. It's just not true.
Well in that absence of a central authority, there is only individual opinion, or mainstream usage, no other alternatives. You seem to be setting yourself - obviously a foreigner - up as some language authority wrt a dialect you're just not that familiar with, your inexplicable borrowing of some weird vernacular from the movies nothwithstanding.
The "to go to college" verb phrase - in the US, including the most well-spoken groups - simply means "to attend tertiary education".
The fact that YOU think there is some kind of magical distinction in status between a college and university is not just elitist and snobby but mistaken.
There are many top colleges that give a much better education than lower-standard universities, it's simply a question of scale and complexity, not an indicator of quality.

"work for Thai wages" = 300 per day x 6 days per week, 3-4 days off per month and brutal management
Even a totally unqualified teacher out in the sticks does 3x better than that, 25-30K is the low end.

PS your "something less legit" implies that you may get yourself into some serious deep sh1t.
Watch out, "here be monsters", and the better connected the more dangerous. Stay legit. . .

I hear what your saying, but I didn't necessarily mean that I would be going to be a teacher. I said that my uncles friend is a good contact and that he may point me in the direction of his own contacts who may or may not be teachers. Bare in mind I will be going with little money and no job lined up, I rely solely on what this contact can do for me and who he can introduce me to for work, again not necessarily teaching, perhaps chef work or something a little less legit. I need to know if it's possible to go to a city the size of Bangkok with a one way ticket, only a couple of contacts and start making paper to sustain a life and the possible ways it can be done?
You have to be a very well-recognized chef internationally to make a decent salary at that here, plenty of well-trained locals happy to work for under 20,000 per month even at top hotels.
There are so many thousands of bamboo-obsessed sex addict farang desperate to stay with their teeraks a little bit longer most non-ultra-specialized jobs just pay peanuts.
The ones doing really well here were brought over by an MNC on a full expat package.
The more powerful "connected" Thais use, chew up and spit out newbies on a daily basis.
Not saying you need a job before you arrive but that would be ideal.
NO WAY you should come without at least six months' living expenses, including health insurance and visa run costs. Ideally a year's worth if you're likely to want to spend a while enjoying yourself rather than immediately hitting the pavement job hunting.
Very very unlikely your income will be higher than 60K in your first year here.
But as I said it's possible to get by on very little, so if you want the adventure and have friends & family to bail you out if it goes pear-shaped then go for it. . .
If you do, be sure to keep us updated 8-)

Sure I understand about working hours in the more civilized countries.
Just saying everything is too clean organized "alles in ordnung".
I prefer a bit of chaos and squalor in the mix - not as much as say Somalia or even Cambodia, but Thailand's got the right balance IMO.

Although she wasnt Thai, I had an old GF who was hairdresser, shaved my gentlemens bits with a straight razor
Well THAT sure got me going, one of my favorite kinks.
But yes, lots of trust involved there. . .

As for over priced Hong Kong, what are you going to get travelling so far in a weekend that you couldn't get for less in PKG? I'd prefer Geylang, SG.
Would PGK = Pangkor Island?
And surely Geylang is also overpriced compared to Thailand?

Well the whole point of "Land of Smiles" is that they're supposed to be smiling AT US!
Few ever cared about whether they're truly content deep inside, nor how they treat each other. . .

So the big rush must be over, good sign for social stability at least for now.
Long as the reds don't try to float squareface's return again anyway

another day later, after she trusted me, her real name.
they also have nicknames, pet names, childhood names, you have to ask the actual given name by the mother, as they can call themselves w/e they want, and do.
I have seen thai on thai use names of fondness
The nickname "chue len" is their real name socially, the formal first name just like the family name is only used for government and other bureaucratic contexts.
And yes they regularly change it, under the advice of a monk or fortune teller, when they want to change their luck, the direction of their lives.

Any households where they've bought the fridge but still have to send the girls out to collect the washing water in bottles?
That IMO would be a weird order of priorities. . .
Obviously the TV comes absolutely first 8-)

You do have a unique way of trying to communicate.
Wasn't talking about brothels, just the normal farang/TG setup, which so many here lump in with all sorts of P4P.
Obviously getting good value for money service, short or long time, requires giving respect and attentive consideration.
Again, I was just responding to people mocking our desire for hotties that would otherwise be unavailable, noting that putting it on a financial footing makes it entirely realistic.
What *I* don't get are the guys that pay for decidedly UNattractive older SOs. . .

cant understand this whiteness worship, nor do I want too
Drive yourself nuts trying to understand them. Long as you accept it, she stays undercover while you're baking, no problem.

"Powerful contacts" is a uni professor?
Sure you will be miles ahead of a no-nothing noob coming in cold.
But the end result will be a job that pays 50-60,000 per month if you've very lucky, quite possibly 35-40K.
Sure you can live on it, but don't think it's anything but "dead end".
Supplement with private tutoring and then you'll be able to enjoy some entertainment.
Learn the language if you're going to stay long term.
But beware it will be a major negative on your CV if you want to get back into the rat race back home.
And to some there you'll be forever suspect as a possible sex tourist or even kiddy fiddler.
All depends on your priorities, you'll certainly have better fun here.
