  1. Hi folks,

Slightly different but similar enough situation here - my new UK passport was issued via VFS here in Bangkok. I've just spent several hours at CW getting my Non-O marriage extension transferred into the new passport, but they did not transfer the multiple re-entry permit.

They directed me to desk C2 for that, but it was already closed by the time my other stamps were transferred at 5.30pm.

Can I transfer the existing re-entry permit at BKK next time I leave the country, or do I need to return to CW? Or can I just show the old passport next time I fly out, along with the new one?

    Thanks!

Could make a difference if you need to apply for your next annual extension before the first 90-day report after your return to Thailand falls due. This is because CW, I gather, now require to see latest 90-day "next date" notifications in considering annual extension of stay applications.

Good point, but thankfully that's a long way off - I'll have done another two by then.

  3. My 90-day report (first one at my new address) was also rejected today, Thursday November 2, after submitting it online a couple of weeks ago.

I'm busy all day tomorrow, Friday November 3, there's no way I can get to immigration in person at this short notice (email arrived after close of business today).

The report was due by October 29, I submitted mine on October 19 and got the initial receipt email, but nothing further until today.

Last day I can do it in person, as I understand it, is this Sunday November 5.

However I'm flying out of Thailand that morning, and they're not open at weekends anyway.

    What's the likely outcome here?

Based in Bangkok on a Non-O marriage extension if that makes any difference.

  4. Thanks for all the responses.

Went to immigration at CW this morning, as I leave for the UK next week - and decided on just doing the regular 1-year application rather than doing a 60-day first.

Everything went fine until they gave me the "under consideration" stamp with a return date of June 2nd, which is 3 weeks today - a couple of days before I'm due to arrive back in Thailand.

I explained that I'll be outside the country then, and they told me they need a printout of my air ticket. Fortunately I had that on my phone, and was able to print off a copy downstairs. I then had to write down the purpose of my visit and the dates on the printout.

My "under consideration" stamp was then amended with a new return date of June 20th.

Only downside was that took so long, I had no time left to apply for a re-entry permit (well, I was at the queue counter just before 3.30pm, but they'd already closed).

I *had* a multiple re-entry permit on my annual extension, but I believe I need a fresh one for my new "under consideration" extension. I'll now need to do that at the airport before I fly, unless anyone thinks it's a better idea to return to CW.

In both cases, you must get a re-entry permit after the new stamp in your passport. If eligible for the 60-day extension, maybe that would be better, just in case of your return being delayed for any reason. However, I would discuss the options with the immigration office. Maybe, they can make arrangements to get you the one-year extension before you leave if you apply for the one-year extension as early as possible and explain the situation.

I was under the impression that I can only apply within 30 days of expiration - do you think it's worth going in earlier?

I know my wife needs to attend for a one-year extension application. If I can get the 60 day extension without her needing to take a day off work, that would tip the scales in favour of that option...

  6. Hi,

Just booked a trip to the UK - it's to attend a family event, so really can't change the dates.

My current 1-year non-O marriage extension is due to expire a few days after I'm due to leave Thailand.

If I go to immigration a few days before leaving (within 30 days of expiration), I believe they'll give me an "under consideration" stamp, with a return date of four weeks later, which should be after I'm due to return.

Can I leave and re-enter on this stamp?

Or is it better to apply for a 60-day marriage extension before leaving instead?

Would either option require a new re-entry permit? Does my wife still need to attend the initial application in either case?

Are there any other options I haven't thought of, besides just letting it expire and starting afresh with a new visa application in the UK?

You can apply up to 45 days early at Chaeng Wattana.

Remember if using the 400k baht in the bank option you will have to keep it in the bank until you return to get your extension stamp.

    No changes to the requirements.

Thanks - so the actual expiry date is the deadline?

I do plan to go earlier, just curious - if I were to apply for an extension on the actual expiry date, I assume they'd still process it, with a bit of grumbling along the way?

No problem on the money front, I moved it between banks back in January but it'll stay where it is indefinitely now.

You will not get another "under consideration" stamp.  You'll get your approval.  Probably too late now for a home visit, so I think you're good. (all the above is my opinion, but likely correct)

You were absolutely correct, just to follow up there.

I'm not sure if they never showed up for the home visit, or if they came while we were out, or what. We never heard from them, and it wasn't mentioned at all on my return.

I got my full 1-year stamp, and even got the multiple re-entry permit done too, all before the lunchtime shutdown.

Just to clarify... I got the house visit as a result of converting from my VE to Non-O.  Not sure if you are going through this process or not.  I got an "under consideration" stamp, and they did the house visit.  Then the Non-O conversion was approved.

They did NOT do a house visit a month later when I went back for the 1-year extension.  Even though we got another "under consideration" stamp at that time, and the IO lady suggested they *might* do a visit, I think she was bluffing.  And then they never did.

    I'm converting from a 90-day entry on multi-entry non-O to a 1-year extension.

My "under consideration" expires in a week, that's when I'm due back at CW.

Still no word from anyone about a home visit. If they don't show up before I'm due back there, will I get the 1-year stamp, or another "under consideration" until they find time to make that visit?

  10. 3 minutes ago, ubonjoe said:

    1. Yes if it is your first application. They will contact you about the home visit.

    2. No need for a letter when you return to get your extension stamp. You only need your updated bank book and a copy of it.

    Thanks.

On #2, the officer at CW very clearly stated that they will need to see both the updated book and a new letter when I return, so I'll go with what she said.

  11. Thanks, I did the first part last week (application is in, I got my "under consideration" stamp).

    Does anyone know offhand:

    1. Will I definitely have a house visit, or is it luck of the draw?

    2. My 400k THB is in SCB, which - contrary to previous advice here - doesn't have a branch at CW. For the letter I needed to make the application, we went to the branch at Big C Chaeng Wattana, but they don't open until 10.30am, so we didn't manage to apply until after 11am, and so didn't get seen until after lunch. My local branch opens at 9.30am, so I'm planning to get my second letter there for my return visit, and then taxi to CW from the bank (should get me there by 10.30am or so). Is there any other way to get a letter before 9.30am?

    Thanks.

  12. One more thing - if I do get blocked on a fresh Kor Ror 2, is this list accurate for the required documents for a 60-day extension?

    • TM7 form (get at immigration)
    • Original passport & photocopies
    • Original TM6 & photocopies
    • Original marriage certificate (KR3) & photocopies
    • Copies of wife's ID card
    • Copies of wife's housebook
    • Copy of lease (we don't live at the address in housebook)
    • Wife herself to attend in person

Or do we still need signed copies of the owner's ID card and housebook for this extension too?

Things I think are only required for 12-month extension, not 60-day:

    • Bank book
    • Bank letter
    • Kor Ror 2
    • Photos of myself and my wife
    • Hand drawn map to our home

If I've got any of those wrong, I would love to be corrected. Thanks again.

  13. Thanks Joe, much appreciated. The district office is Bang Rak, so I'll have to see whether they're issuing Kor Ror 2s. If not, I believe I can still get a 60-day extension without most of the above. That would give me until late July (by which time the visa itself will have expired).

If district offices aren't open by then, not sure what my options would be, but one step at a time! Thanks again, much appreciated.

  14. Got a few questions on this - this seems like the closest match for me - except it'll be my first extension (been on multiple-entry non-O for a few years now, but I put 400k into a bank account here last year "just in case").

I'm intending to applying at Chaeng Wattana this Monday 27th, I live with my wife in a rented condo in Bangkok. I'm just not clear on a few things:

    • For the bank book, I intend to just use the app to transfer a hundred baht or so between the fixed deposit (which has a little over 400k in it) and savings accounts, then swiping the bank book in a machine early Monday morning to get the balance updated for that day (assuming I can find one open all night!). Should that work as proof of funds?
    • Or do I need a letter from the bank too? Seen contradictory answers to this. I'm planning to go to CW early on Monday (before opening time), I obviously can't get a bank letter before the bank opens... If I do need a letter, can it be issued on a Friday, for a Monday morning application?
    • Is there somewhere I can see some example photos? Do we just need a few pics of us as a couple, gurning at the camera, taken inside our condo? How many pics inside? One in each room? Then another one outside the internal front door showing the number? And another outside showing the name of the building? Can these be printed on regular office paper, or do they need to be glossy photo prints?
    • I still have a copy of our formal printed lease, but it expired last year, and we agreed verbally on a month-to-month indefinite extension with the landlord. Will this be accepted, or do we need to get a new legal lease drawn up and signed?
    • How recent does my Kor Ror 2 need to be? I have the original from when we got married, a newer one from my visa application last year, or I can get a brand new one from the district office this week - but it obviously won't be dated the same day as my application.

I think that's it for now - thanks!

You must of seen me i was one of the first 10 people there or so. I wonder if you were the half Irish/Brit(i think British) guy i was talking to in line. Hopefully we beat the visa run companys tomorrow on the pick up and getting to border!

Though i didnt find it THAT bad. Its still a PIA sitting in the heat for 3 hours and then another few hours tomorrow. Much better to go on a Tuesday or Wed if u must go here.

My driver was telling me Mondays and Wednesdays are the busy days for applications. Others are saying Mondays and Thursdays.

Showed up around 2pm Tuesday to collect my passport, only to find the same kind of line again.

So just sat in the car with the air con running until after 3pm when the line had gone down. Glad I wasn't stood around outside for an hour.

So if you're not in a rush and you've applied on a busy day, it's probably worth aiming to pick up the passport later in the day rather than right at 2pm. I believe collections are 2-4pm.

    Monday mornings que.

I got there around 6.45am today, expecting the worst. Doors opened at 9am, all done by 9.30. So arriving early is definitely worthwhile, but as more catch on, maybe "early" will come to mean earlier and earlier...

This is certainly the busiest I've ever seen it, and locals are saying the same. There's very little shade, and it's an incredibly uncomfortable setup in the heat - even once you get into the Consulate, you're still standing outside!

Very glad I didn't press that snooze button. But I think I will try my luck at HCMC next year if things remain the same.

You extension cannot be transferred from a passport from one country to one from another country.

If you want to change passports you would have to start all over again by leaving the country get to a non-o visa and then an extension of stay using it.

Purely out of interest, any idea what the process would be to amend/reissue a work permit in that situation? Let's say the WP holder was getting annual non-B/non-O 1-year multiple-entry visas, just to take extensions out of the equation.

  18. 2 minutes ago, ubonjoe said:

You do a border hop for an new entry 90 day entry before you leave and get a re-entry permit (single 1000 baht) to keep the remainder of it valid when you use it to enter the country. Then apply for the new visa after your return.

You could also make a trip to Savannakhet to get a new multiple entry non-o visa.

There should be no problem for you to apply for the extension. You would need 400k baht in a Thai bank in your name only for 2 months on the date you apply for the extension or proof of 40k baht income. Since you have a work permit you could use your income from

working to meet the 40k baht income requirement by showing tax payment receipt and your most recent tax return.

The problem you might have is being here during the last 30 days of you current entry or the 30 day under consideration you will have after applying.

Ah, I assumed I would be done and dusted on the day, like with an extension on a tourist visa.

I also didn't realise I could get a re-entry permit on a visa entry. I thought those were only issued for extensions, for some reason.

I think that, between those two options, I should be able to sort something out though.

Never seen a tax payment receipt or a tax return, and would prefer not to tie the visa to the job anyway. Any idea on the agent question? All the more keen on that now if I do go for the extension and need to visit CW twice!

    Thanks!

  19. Hi all,

I'm currently on a multiple-entry non-O from Savannakhet, which I've never extended - I travel often enough that the 90-day limit per entry isn't a problem, and an extension has never seemed worth it (tying up 400k in-country at low interest, spending a day at Chaeng Wattana, having immigration officials show up on the doorstep, etc).

That said, expiry is approaching and I am really going to struggle to squeeze in a Savannakhet trip before the visa expires (and I've already committed to an overseas trip which will see me outside Thailand on the day it expires, in a country with a known-unfriendly Thai embassy), so I may need to just bite the bullet.

Can I still just show up at CW after entering and exiting several times under this visa already and still convert to a one-year extension? And is there any requirement for how long my 400k needs to be in a Thai bank before I do?

And if this is an option, is there any way I can spare myself the CW torture and have an agent take care of the extension for me?

Edited to add: I do currently work in Thailand, and have a valid WP, but would prefer to use savings to justify the extension so that I'm not reliant on the job in any way. Mentioning this just in case having the job/WP changes things in any way.

    Thanks in advance.
