1. This is a troubling situation, as a father I am so wary of Thai men and mixed girl relationships. Just from the 3 examples that I am aware of 2 have ended very badly, 1 with violence and the other with adultery in her own bed, both married to wealthy Thais. The 3rd married an average guy, lawyer, who cherises the ground she walks on and is an excellent provider and family man.

Often these well to do Thai guys see our daughters as trophies or something different, their version of the exotic or some sort of conquest as they are able to have almost any Thai girl they want.

I feel for you and your wife as your pride and joy may be making a mistake, I suppose all you can do is support her and try to get her to delay the ceremony, if he sticks around then he may care for her but he may also fall over and she may wake up. Ask her to take a look at the state of most hi-so or celebrity marriages and she will quickly see that often they are cold, conditional and often dehumanising relationships. Have you also considered what type of relationship you will have with your inlaws for family events etc. and if grandchildren ensue, what influence will they have on the child's upbringing?

As for the godfather paying for the ceremony, what a sweet deal for the groom's family, sorry but another mistake, their family will invite thousands to eat and drink at his cost. Can the godfather intervene or throw some clout around, if not tell him to keep his kind gift and give it to your daughter.

I wish you and your daughter luck, hopefully our assumptions are wrong and it will work out fine for all.

  2. You've never heard of "if we kill your husband and get his money we can live happily together forever" or "if you love me just carry these drugs across the border"???

Mmmh, no........I have never heard that.Maybe I mix with the wrong people?

Or you haven't read a newspaper or seen a news program in years????????

  3. One thing that has been overlooked is that often these death plots are hatched by the Thai lover. It seems that certain Thai men target these farang married women as they rightly or wrongly think that they have access to a lot of good time cash care of the husband.

Never underestimate the desire of Thai men for "sanook" funds, money used to impress friends with booze or other women as they believe that having and spending money is a form of stature in a society who sees them as useless <Snip!>.

In our office we have had 3 women who have been taken by these romeos from amounts ranging from 100k to 600K including one who took another girl to Korea on her credit card. We complain they try to rip us off by they are ruthless with each other too.

A guy who approaches a married woman has more motives than love or sex considering the huge amounts of single available women. I wouldn't be surprised that his wife was persuaded to go along with the plot (still a cruel heartless <Snip!>) but I bet as soon as the greedy Thai lover and his mate got their paws on the cash she would have been left high and dry.

My condolences go out to the family and friends, tragic ending to a man's life for a few shiny pennies. God Bless

Excuse me, but if a Thai man can convince a Thai woman to join a plot of murdering her foreign husband, that means that the lady had bad intentions from the start otherwise she would not have had a Thai boyfriend in the first place.

You can't force anyone to do something he doesn't agree with.

Your excused, but you haved failed to see that I agree with you hence "(still a cruel heartless <Snip!>)"

and the reference is not to forced its to convinced or persuaded to commit the crime.

You've never heard of "if we kill your husband and get his money we can live happily together forever" or "if you love me just carry these drugs across the border"???

It's all specualtion of course as we have no inside knowledge to the motives.

  5. What an utter crock of <deleted>!!!

How appropriate you added this comment "avoid and ignore TV trolls tongue.png" as you clearly fall into that category.

Why don't you bend over over a bit more and bow down to your Thai masters.

It's our god given right to live as we please without having to conform to anyone's standards, let alone trying to appease a society that doesn't recognize you in the slightest as even equal to their own people. I'll eat their slop if I feel like it but never to ingratiate myself in their eyes. Your delusional if you think thats how to enjoy and live here. Shame on you for turning your back on your upbringing and culture, it seems most Thais appreciate your culture more than you do.

Or a variation thereof every day.

You are to be congratulated finally a real person.

This is a real breakfast. I have the same and plenty of it.

What a depressing post, I don't want to live the rest of my life being anally retentive about what I eat.

"I have a grain of flax seed with the purified extract of a buffalos piss bucket" are you serious?

After reading this I'm ready to throw up.

Interestingly though fussy about breakfast but not about drinking a brewery dry every night, hey doofus the sins of last night won't be forgiven by a breakfast not even fit for my parrot.

Enjoy a nice tasty, soul fullfilling English or American breakfast with all the trimmings, then you will have the brain power to post a decent thread topic.

  7. Most Thais are quite polite in general, however your observations are quite correct, it seems the more hi-s0 or wealthier they seem the worse their manners and in general their behaviour. This perception of self importance is just ludicrous, talk about a big fish in a small pond syndrome, as the real value of these types of individuals is in most cases zero or less. Maybe a French style revolution is needed to clear out this infection in Thai society.

  8. Unbelievable, the Thai girls are promiscuous??? I didn't read that you put a stop to the offer of sex and proceeded to quote some biblical passage on the evils of a bit of hanky panky.

Count yourself lucky because you are the tart. You were probably the only one they had slept with that month or week or whatever but you have been through a few of them. What century are we living in? Can't a woman want and have sex too like any man?

So quit you're whining and I suspect bigoted racial implications and thank your lucky stars you didn't have to fork out 35 dinners, a 12 carat diamond and a piece of your left testicle to have some fun in the sack like you would have in the west.

  9. You are correct on your assumption that ciggies made for sale Thailand are of a lower quality, a mate who worked for a manufacturer confirmed that due to the Thai tobacco monopoly, the quality of the tobacco used was the inferior shag (stems and wastes of the tobacco leaf) and the grades were much lower often D quality and grown in Africa, also the additives (i.e. to make them burn faster) were in greater proportions than other countries. Essentially it means greater profits and with the monopoly what choice does the average Thai smoker have. I'm often amazed when I go to a tobbaconist back home at the extent and variety of choices they offer, you don't see establishments like that here. Sometimes the availability of choice makes manufacturuers lift their game.

  10. The staff who are provided this benefit live further away and park their cars at Chatuchuk or Ladproa stations at their own expense at THB 1000 per month, thus the savings are real for them too. It was estimated they were spending upto THB 4000 to get to work prior to the program being initated, even with the Company paying for parking.

In comparison with the costs of similar services in western countries, your probably correct, it may be cheaper, but as a percentage of salary for the average Thai office worker it is probably higher. The distances travelled are probably further too considering I think the MRTA is only 43 kms long end to end.

The point being I wonder if the UK metro increased it prices 15% in 6 months or over 40% over 3 years would the public be outraged or would the government intervene?

  11. One of the benefits we give to our employees is that we pay for MRTA monthly passes in lieu of parking spaces in the building, this program established as a cost cutting measure 3 years ago is now coming on par with the cost of parking.

When we first started it was a monthly cost of THB 750, a great saving of nearly 50% of the parking space cost in our building, plus no more traffic excuses for being late and generally more relaxed employees. Within 6 months it went to THB800, roughly a year later THB900 and 6 months after that THB 950 and THB 1000 6 months later. Now I have been informed that it will rise from next month a staggering 15% to THB 1150 for unlimited use for 30 days.

I wish our margins and prices would have risen in the same proportion over the same period, instead we did a price freeze and a 10% reduction in some areas of the business.

So what gives these thieves the right to extort the thai public, hurting the salaried workers who are the ones who have had to suffer the brunt of the financial crisis through wage freezes and often reductions.

Considering the cost of a parking space is THB1500 (unchanged after 3 years) the program is close to being abolished and another 30 cars can hit the road again every day and add to the pollution and traffic jams.

Why is that when something good is done in Bangkok or in Thailand some greedy ass sod just can't help but to go and rape the hel_l out of it. MRTA's costs haven't increased they run on electricity and not oil, they got plenty of customers. I suspect they are funding their new line developments with present cash flow rather than future earnings. What a great business tactic, how I would love to expand our business with increases in prices and profits generated today to pay for my expansion, my clients would run to my competitors without a doubt.

To add injury to insult isn't it partially government run, how could they do this to their own people and more importantly the same group of people who pay legitimate taxes in Thailand, straight from their pay cheques every month.

I'm sure there won't be any protests or refraining from using the service, it will be accepted and in another six months it will go up again. I recall in the west an increase of 5% was considered horrific but here it's standard practice.

How long can the average Thai keep the fat cats rolling in greedy excess, before they break?

  12. Are you serious Soprano? There's no moral, ethical or legal issue here. If the car was transferred correctly and is in your name without any emcumbrance of any sort, then the deal is done. Som Nom Na for the lady, she on some level allowed the husband to have access to the vehicle to sell it. Your dilemna to give it back or whatever, just adds to the stereotype of rich stupid farangs who can be emotionally blackmailed to part with their money. If the case was reversed and she or he had taken advantage of you, do you think they would have cared.

  13. You're right Travel2003 to say that breaks up are common in the newer generations but it seems to sting a little more or have more significance if the guy is a farang and older. By his own admission she is uneducated and probably from a rural family where the issues of face seem to still have a lot of social influence.

  14. What boggles my mind is why the involvement with the family only after 3 months and knowing her history. This is where the real hate will come from, the girl will get over it and move on or to the next punter or go back to the bar and probably be quite happy about it. But her loss of face with the family (she couldn't keep a guy) and the hope you brought by interacting with the family of a big pay day (sin sod) will be the motivating force for any negative responses you receive, Next time get to know the girl before you decide to make nice with the family. Guess what, that nice family that liked you so much and go on so well with will curse the day they met you and their combined hatred will motivate either the girl or a family member to retaliate. I hope this won't be the case but the best advice is to cut and run and start fresh and learn the lessons.

  15. Saw the movie and it was mildly entertaining, however to say it was made for an Australian audience is an absolute croc. Baz and the Australian Tourism Board made the movie for Hollywood and international audiences. No Australian would accept such a flimsy depiction of a country filled with so many wonderful landscapes and way more interesting stories.

Essentially it's a cross between Out Of Africa and a touch of Pearl Harbour, Baz Luhrmann should be ashamed of what he's done, for a once iconic Aussie director has become a Hollywood whore and now has sold his heritage for a few shiny pennies. Shame. Shame.

  17. There can be numerous reasons why, from jaw and back alignment to excessive rem sleep activity. However it can be easily solved with a mouthguard from your dentist. A bad side effect is the effect on his teeth if he continues to grind without a protective mouthguard, he will wear away his first teeth and then effect the growth of the new set.

Jcon hit it on the head "i'd love to beat the problem at the source, rather than have to use the mouth guard (which does not "solve the problem") ... but nobody has been able to explain the problem properly as of yet... "

thats exactly the problem often very hard to figure out the cause but prevention of the potential damage is a start. I dont think his 3 year old will worry about the ckickees seeing him drool too much as of yet

  18. There are changes you can make in your diet and in your lifestyle that can help reduce the risk and possibly even prevent high blood pressure. These are listed below. The more you can adopt into your life, the more you lower your risk for developing hypertension.

Limit alcohol to two drinks per day or even less

Maintain a healthy weight and lose weight if needed

Cut your fat intake to less than 30%

Limit added salt and be mindful of sodium content in prepared foods

Exercise regularly at a moderate level of intensity several times a week

    Stop smoking

Be sure you get at least 1000 mg (milligrams) of calcium every day. Good sources are dairy products, broccoli, canned salmon, figs, tofu and kale

You also need 2500-3000 mg of potassium daily. Get that from fresh veggies and fruit, nuts and dairy products. Look for low fat brands of dairy products.

Get 350-400 mg of magnesium daily. You’ll find it in dark green veggies, whole grains, seafood, legumes, nuts, and soybeans.

Get a good night’s sleep. Inadequate sleep can actually raise your blood pressure even higher if you already have hypertension.

Relax more. Reduce the stress in your life, particularly if you have risk factors for high blood pressure. Consider taking up yoga or meditation to learn how to relax.
