Unfortunately flight prices are a lot higher at the moment (my usual BKK-MAN flight has gone up by 50%) and (IMHO) have little chance to go down for the foreseeable future.
One trick I can share is to use https://matrix.itasoftware.com/search to do your flight searching, this will allow you to search multiple departure airports & dates to find the best deal.
Once you've found a flight , use skyscanner.com to search the different travel sites but always check the airlines own site & unless there's a big difference book direct as it usually makes any changes/issues easier to resolve.
FWIW I consoled myself about the extra cost by telling myself that I'd saved the cost of 4-6 return flights because I haven't been able to visit for the past 2.5 years.
Thanks for that matrix site, it's a nice little tool that.

Hi, ex Chiang Mai expat here looking to take my family back to Thailand this summer as we haven't been back in over 3 years due to the pandemic. However looking at the price of flights to get back they seem a little over the top.
What's going on? Is it getting busy over there now? Are the planes running at full capacity? Do you think, if for example you want to fly from the end of June the prices may come down to fill the plane?
Anyone that had some recent experience flying from Europe lately with any tricks or hacks to get a cheaper flight would be welcomed.
Thanks

I took my kid back to west to be reared and educated and to be honest with you I've always been conflicted on whether I am doing the right thing. I feel maybe we'd have a better life in Chiang Mai, I know my wife would certainly be happier at home. I had a girl so I've felt she'd be safer being brought up back home. Next reason is education, I feel she'll get a better education back home, but is that a misconception I have or bias I hold? Are you happy with your Childs education they are receiving here in Chiang Mai? What are the best schools? and how much do they cost?
Also anyone bring up little girls, do you feel you have to be extra vigilant with them?

I’m hearing rumours that there has been dam breach over near sansai. Does anyone know anything about it?
The wife is in a bit of a fuss about it (we’re back in Blighty) I don’t know if she’s getting false info via social media or not.

What ever happened to Qatar Airways flight that was meant to fly into CNX? Do the fly in? Every time I search for flight it comes in via BKK.

Somebody is not reallly defined as a sex pat just because they want a sex life surely. Unless of course the term is an attempt at a slur by someone with a moral agenda. I travel around Thailand, visit temples, festivals, areas of natural beauty, visit cities and enjoy the girls and the night life. That does not make me a sexpat.....just a normal man. Those who forego pleasures of the flesh, especially those who label people are really missing out on one of the main advantages of living in Thailand. They are often repressed by experiences in childhood abd are crusaders for evangelical extremists. The prevalence of such people is perhaps why CM is so boring and has such a thriving gay scene. Its possibly the most repressed, locked down, oppressive city in Thailand.
Just to clarify “sexpat” would be an expatriate that pays a prostitute for sex. Also I wouldn’t say “normal men” roam south east Asia exploiting young women for their own sexual gratification.

Sounds like you’re sexpat so Phnom Penh would probably be the best place for you.

Glad to see the election went so well, I’m sure General Prayuth will carry out the mandate of the people with the upmost integrity.

Is there an alcoho ban this weekend?

I’m sill having great nights out post junta. The days of drinking until the monks are out to receive elms are not common any more but you’ll still get drink until 3 or 4am. Start earlier too, I start at about 5 or 6 now, by the time 3am comes, I’m done!
You’re looking in the wrong places, you need to be looking for Thai only oriented “restaurants” that serves beer and whiskeys ,Thais like to eat while drinking. Also gives you a opportunity to try socialising with Thai people that aren’t Bar girls, waitresses, or massage girls. Thais are actually pretty sound.

Thanks for posting that link. It looks like a very good source for updating/improving my 25+ years lapsed software engineer skills.
Are you the OP?

1. Suggest getting involved with the raspberry pi project in Thailand. There are a number of links to follow up and you may find a group in your area if lucky.
2. She might get involved in the Linux community in Thailand. Plenty of links. And give her a Windows laptop to convert.
I’d be interested in getting involved in raspberry pi project. Where are they going on?

Move ! Or cut down on your usage by 50%. LOL
Yeah you’re right, to be honest I’m not going to do anything about it. But just curious if someone could do something about it, I wasn’t even sure if there is a new law either.

I remember talk not so long ago about a new law coming in to stop landlord over charging on electricity. Did that happen? If it did, it certainly is not being in forced. Is there anything you can do if you’re being charged more than double the government rate of electricity?

Ah I was going to start a thread on this.
When you say clean inside and out do you mean a wash and a vacuum?
I’m looking to get the inside shampooed, and the outside compound and polished.
Anyone know where and how much that will cost?
Can anyone recommend a good driving instructor/school
in Chiang Mai

I want to get driving lessons for my wife’s 24 year old man child of a son so hopefully he can gain some independence. Do you know and good driving instructors or schools? Any idea how much it will cost?
