Songkran in Chiangmai before covid was quite a special occasion and it had serious potential...my concern is the 10 day duration, water throwing and blocked off streets surely not good for business. 3 days OK

Big joke really cleaned up chiangmai immigration and 90 day reports , he made it much better for retired farangs living there, no longer having to get there at 6.00 in the morning and still wait all day...
He is capable of very good things

Absolutely correct.
I know of a person with a Thai wife, arrested, charged with fraud, deception, and overstay, held in IDC for 4 weeks and appeared in court.
He was fined 10K for fraud and 20K for overstay. That was 4 years ago.
His stamp indicated he was deported under section 12.7He states he received nothing from the Court, nor any indication as to how long he had been banned from re-entry.
As the overstay was for more than 1 year, he wrongly assumed it was a 3-year ban.
Last year he booked a flight to Thailand, but at check-in was informed he was blacklisted and would be refused entry, therefore he was denied boarding.
His wife has since approached Immigration, without reply, so they employed a lawyer.
The lawyer initially assumed he'd been banned for 10 years as he was arrested before deportation, but Immigration advised he was banned under section 16.
Section 16 : In the instance where for reason of national welfare or safeguarding the public peace , culture , morality , or welfare , or when the Minister considers it improper to allow any alien or any group of alien to enter into the Kingdom , the Minister shall have power to exclude said alien or group aliens from entering into the KingdomHe was merely referred to as being 'undesirable'.
He and his wife are trying to appeal the decision. -
Big problem, does not take much and the marine shellfish will be gone, a fragile ecosystem , lose one layer and all of it goes

You can buy a small pen size blue light that detects counterfeit money at DIY shops in Thailand for about 50 baht, powered by small round batteries you can see UV markers in the notes and in your passport.....Worth having one

Truth is, as most thai people will tell you, thailand has predominantly 3 genders....and if you check the history it has always been this way, thai people do not give it a second thought...their attitude is that it is up to the individual........any homophobic farangs living in Thailand that have a problem with it better get used to it........and anyway, one does not really need to be concerned with the sex life of others.........

Today i visited Chiangmai Immigration to extend my retirement visa, what a dream of a visit, i arrived at 10.00 to find nobody queued up so had my paperwork checked and given a queue number immediately, had to wait about 45 minutes and i was out the door at 11.00.....a record for me, all staff were efficient and polite and were a credit for their proffesional behaviour, how things have changed over the years.........
Can not thank them enough, they are doing an incredible job, just wish some of the clients would show some respect and not appear in tshirts, sandals and cargo pants.
Surely its not that difficult, doubt they would visit immigration in their own countries looking like they were having a day at the beach...
Other than that complaint, and thats not at the staff, i commend the chiangmai immigration office for excellence in their duties...top marks

for a Thai person, work is also often their social life...
Many enjoy it, they go there to be with their workmates / friends and have this huge support network.........it’s not all about work for money type thinking, that you obviously have.
i can clearly understand from your discourse that you have no idea
Of Thai culture.....stay out of it.......if you think she’s not earning enough supplement that with an extra hundred baht a day that will make her happy.......you’re so rich what the hell......

Thailand is a Buddhist country, China is the exact opposite, they get
pleasure out of boiling dogs alive and skinning them slowly, the fear makes them taste better they believe, that’s not very Buddhist of them.
their traditional medicines have devastated nature’s animals.
nobody likes the fact that the Dalai Lama lives in exile, and the Chinese kidnapped the Tibetan next incarnation of the Buddha...
that’s not very buddha of them, the organ harvesting for profit,
that’s vile, the detention of the Uighur Muslims , the attack on Mongolia’s people........and basically the ridiculous lies that spew from the CCPs mouth.
they are evil personified, that have no morals and sadly live in a state of consciousness that’s extremely low.
its sad because it doesn’t have to be this way, it is the madness of Winnie the Pooh.......that will send them off the cliff,,,,,,again.

There are obviously sinister undercurrents to the rare deer ,
and that’s almost certainly gone to someone with a lot of money
for supposedly some sort of medicinal benefits......
The fact that it’s progressed now into murder and suicide shows it’s not a simple case and there is much to hide ...... very scary .

The tour groups may be annoying to you but they bring a lot of money and are relatively well controlled. They are not the ones trashing the beaches and damaging the reefs. The groups offer a way to travel and work around a severe language barrier.
This years group travelers become next years independent travelers and they come with their families not just their drinking buddies.
That you think you are somehow better and more deserving than those "certain nations" is disturbing. If you don't like Asians, stay home.
Wow that’s quite a little racist rant , not very buddha of you is it.
chip on the shoulder , what a burden you carry, I feel sorry for you.
your vicious attack is that of a small bitter man, I suggest you leave.
most Thais would think your attitude obnoxious......

Guess if you get an incredible offer of millions of baht from a wealthy Chinese person convinced the deer will give him long life or soecial powers the rare animal disappears, the Chinese really believe in these superstitions........

KN 95 means made in China, I had quite the search to find some Thai made masks, can see no sense in supporting the country that lat the virus into the world benefit from it....buy Thai made if you can, the ones I have are good quality..........

Can’t believe he says the virus emerged in India,
Thats the first one to blame the Indian nation, most
of the world agrees it emerged in China, Wuhan to be precise.
guess he couldn’t state that for fear of hurting the Chinese feelings.
shameful that he should lay the blame on India.

Very true , but you cannot expect more from brainless people leading a country, and dont forget we are just dirty farang for them.
You could well be a dirty farang if that’s how you perceive yourself, I have lived here many years and everyone knows me locally, I am definitely not seen as a dirty farang, I speak their language , never felt uncomfortable among them, have dinner with them and socialize with them.
what you say is nonsense, depends on how you act and speak, that’s how you get judged......treat them like <deleted> and they will see you as a piece of <deleted>....loud overbearing booming voice insults them....you may well be an idiot

We have certainly been no Wuhan or New York, where are the sick from covid ? Thailand is not raging with the virus.....how many older farang are on respiration in the hospitals due to virus......exactly why nobody knows but Thailand has been spared, to put Thailand in the red light countries is plainly wrong and ill advised.......it does little to garner good will between the countries when the U.K. should know better........where’s their brains ?

surveys taken within China suggest that what the minister saying is correct and there will indeed be a stampede, there’s many millions of them over there with the cash and they want and need a holiday...
Western countries are a little dicey as they are not exactly the flavor of the day, thailand however.....open their arms with love.
its coming....have no doubt about that.....thailand holiday is trending high on Chinese social media............

Yep, many are in a serious world of hurt....beyond our comprehension. They do though, have the ability to survive in hard times.....these are not the kind of people that buy all the toilet paper so they can sell it back on eBay for a profit.......they have some qualities not apparent in western civilization that will get them through....seems they are going to need those qualities.

hotels insisting on passport at checkin (for TM30?)
in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits

Sadly I travelled everywhere without my passport, the license always worked, until it didn't, in Bangkok and it was crackdown time....need passport......raining 9.00 pm at night and every hotel turned me away, I was due to fly out in the morning.....asked a cabbie to find me a place close to the airport and I got a 600 baht cab ride in the opposite direction....most miserable night in my life in the most disgusting room available....do not recommend.....do not get caught like me, take your passport
