  1. This could be it along with the new Visa restrictions. Its crazy how every time you go to sleep you can wake up to a new life changing law. Just get a Job the American Woman told me smile.png My expat friend told me: there is a lot for sell now. all the long stayers want to sell their stuff now. Cambodia and Vietnam is where they are headed. he also said: Thailand miss calculated it all. after a couple of weeks they will realize that they are loosing money with these new strict rules... I don't know about that we will see but I feel that I am still always labeled as one of the only come here for sex-drink-bad-farangs. Thais coming to Sweden are after a while accepted and just a normal person as any other. but here you have to filtrate the people very much to meet those open minded Thais who are not hard-lined nationalists and directly put the label on you: Just an other beer drinking farang(PS Thais back in Sweden are great people. super friendly. I grew up with many of them that's why I'm here in Thailand today. I learned from their friendly ways and delicious-food biggrin.pngthumbsup.gifwai.gif

  2. Lies, damned lies, and statistics.

All my Thai friends say that I am stupid everytime I want to give a tip. tip for what? they say. I wanted to give tip in a nice Skybar when another thai friend pointed at the bill and said: No need its already included in the price(VAT) service charge

  3. My bus crashed once in Thailand(not a double decker)after driving over a big dog, the wheel was lose and we later crashed even though they had changed the wheel(Long story) but the driver looked so tired he drank easily over 8 red bulls and 3 more after changing bus(everybody were chocked that the same driver drove the new bus haha he looked so zombie tired)2 tourist got minor inguries from the broken windows. anyway when it happens. you feel helpless It dosnt matter if youre the biggest strongest guy and lift maximum weights in the gym. you will fly out of your seat and even harder without seatbelt. BTW without those trees many in the bus would not live today, these trees are incredibly strong, first they bent and then they lifted the bus up again, otherwise we would smash into traffic on the opposite side of the road. I ALWAYS use seatbelt after that feeling. people can say what they I couldnt care less thumbsup.gif

  4. Undefeated Canadian Prospect Jeremy Kennedy Scores Second Round TKO Win at Songkran MMA Festival

    By James Goyder

HUA HIN: -- Undefeated Canadian Jeremy Kennedy cemented his status as an up and coming prospect to keep an eye on with a dominant victory over Viktor Larsson in the main event of the Songkran MMA Festival in Thailand on Saturday night.

The event was organized by Oliver Coste and featured a mixture of pro and amateur MMA bouts and Muay Thai fights with all the action taking place inside a cage at The Grand Stadium in Hua Hin. A close to capacity crowd was treated to a series of submissions with very few fights going the distance.

Kennedy trains out of Team Quest in Chiang Mai and the Canadian showcased his striking and wrestling skills in what turned out to be a very one sided headline fight. Larson showed plenty of heart but was simply out matched by a superior opponent.

Early in the opening round Kennedy shot for a takedown and was eventually able to secure a double leg. From that position he went to work with a non stop assault of ground and pound, first from side control and then after taking Larson’s back.

Larson, who fights out of the nearby 301 Muay Thai & MMA, was never going to tap to strikes but the referee was taking a very close look at the action towards the end of the round as Kennedy landed a series of hard punches to the head of his Swedish opponent, who was simply covering up and hoping to survive long enough to hear the bell.

In the second round Larson looked to have regained his composure after the brutal beating he had received in the opening exchanges only for Kennedy to show a new side to his game, dropping the taller Swedish fighter with a perfectly timed overhand right.

Again Larson showed huge heart to stay in there when it initially appeared he might have been knocked out but as Kennedy postured up and punished him with punches the referee called a stop to the contest to save the stricken Swede from enduring any further punishment.

Kennedy improves to 4-0 with the second round TKO win and will be no walkover for UFC veteran Will Chope who he faces at PRO Fighting 9 next month. Larson drops to 1-1 but can console himself with the knowledge that he was beaten by a genuinely high calibre opponent in this 68 kgs catchweight contest.

The co main event saw Yoann Gouaida return to the cage to take on Thai debutant Maytee Taypakram in a fight set at 80 kgs which turned out to be fast and furious, with the French fighter eventually prevailing with a rear naked choke.

Taypakram was advertised as being a wrestler but his wild, brawling style of striking posed Gouaida a few problems with the Muay Thai veteran getting tagged a couple of times in some frantic early exchanges.

Gouaida was able to weather the storm and take the fight into the clinch where he took advantage of his superior height to land some hard knees to his opponent’s head. Taypakram fell to the floor where the French fighter wasted no time in taking his back and sinking in a rear naked choke for a win which takes him to 4-3, while the Thai drops to 0-1.

In the first pro MMA fight of the night Liam McGowan, who like Gouaida was fighting out of 301 Muay Thai & MMA, also submitted a Thai opponent but he did not have things all his own way against Litisak Plawan.

The Thai came in exactly 7 kgs smaller than his opponent for this lightweight fight but started strong, landing a hard body kick which seemed to take the wind out of McGowan and then executing a hop toss to take the fight to the ground.

The Canadian responded with a takedown of his own but the fight was stood up after multiple shots to the back of the head. McGowan looked the worse for wear at the end of the round but he responded well in the second stanza, securing another takedown, mounting his opponent and then rolling for an armbar.

It was an entertaining fight and McGowan’s pro career gets off to the perfect start as he advances to 1-0 while Plawan, who might like to think about competing in the correct weight class next time, drops to 0-1.

The night got underway with a four man 135 lbs amateur MMA tournament and two Muay Thai bouts. There is no word on whether Coste will put on another event but with a close to sold out crowd and entertaining action from start to finish there is no question that his inaugural show was a success.

    Awesome :)

  5. You cannot do a passport swap at a border crossing. Using either of you passports will only give you 15 days at a border crossing. If you fly out and back you will always get 30 days using either passport and their is no limit on how many you can do.

You should get a 2 or 3 entry tourist visa before traveling. Each entry would give you a 60 day entry that can be extended by 30 days at immigration.

Thats what I did before I came to Thailand. its great and I got it after 5 days :)

  6. Sweden is a lovely country with lovely people, but they also have one of the highest suicide rates in Europe. It would seem that they might want to tackle that problem before cutting down on the working hours.

I hope the 6 hour day is successful and catches on other places....like maybe Thailand!

Sweden does not have a particularly high suicide rate. They are only 15 in the OECD and 47 in the world - it's about the same as the USA's. Switzerland, Finland and FRANCE have higher rates to name a few.

This busllshit is always trotted out when people talk about the many successes of it's social democratic post war policies - especially from Americans.

I agree. no country is perfect. but back in Sweden I walked any street and any time in the Country. "thats freedom for me"I would like to see an American do the some in the land of FREEDOM :)

  7. Finnish passports already carry fingerprints, and it has been so for many years already. These fingerprints are also checked at certain airports, mine were checked at LCCT in Kuala Lumpur just a couple weeks back...

I guess there is far less demand for Finnish passports because of the biometrics?

Interesting. but I dont think they check those often. do they?Nice to see how the con men would come around that system.

  8. An election system doesn't really work here in Thailand for many years, 'cause the rest of Thailand is just either bought or terrorized to vote for their cruel, criminal masters in power,...

Besides, the people in power or even caretaker power can push the reset button as often as they like to manipulate the ABSOLUTE outcome in THEIR FAVOR at ANY time....

    This is ELECTION-COLLECTION-STYLE, Thaksin-style

I have been thinking about this dilemma a lot lately. and only when a guy told me: "Democracy does not work for everybody" It all made sence. it just dosnt. and if it does perhaps that word DEMOCRACY shouldnt be so "Westernized" It just dosnt work here or in many other places of the world. epecially not where there is a light year gap between super rich and super greedy combined with very poor uneducated people whos votes can be easy bought. Its sad to see. And even if all the thai people would come to gether one day.

  9. Im happy to see a post of this. I ate there yesterday. I live in an area with Thai Majority: South Thai People, Buddists, Muslim, Christians and the KFC at the first floor in "The Mall Bangkapi" is always full and going very good. I see a lot of thai muslims there. they love that Fried Chicken. KFC is very good at adapting to the Country. there are menues fair prized. Some dishes very spicy, herbs and onions. Most of the staff here are Thai Muslims. KFC is only going to grow if it kees fair prizes. They told me that in South Thailand KFC is very popular too.

  10. ...and the homeless guy with no shoes saw you walk past in your Nike's and posted in another Thai form that even if he had money he would't waste it on expensive shoes.

    It's all relative.

You have no money, so you see someone in an expensive car as excessive and a show off. Jealousy is a natural human emotion. Don't feel bad.

I have nice cars, but I am still envious of guys in a new Lamborghini. Is it suitable for Bangkok in peak hour? Hell no. Do I want one? Hell yes.

Hahahaah you got a sick brain inside there :D to be honest I posted this post of 2 reason: 1. Cuz of the BKK Traffic(And I meant only Bangkok, not other places in Thailand) 2. To see how many views it would get. no I still got money so I dont have to work, just living a life I want to live here in Thailand since 6 months and I will continue to do it for a while :)

  11. I wonder if the BIB will now go after the person that provided the underage girl? I kinda doubt it because around where I live it is quite common for Thai guys. And no I am not Thai bashing, just stating the facts.

Living in Thailand for a while now(I am against this dont missunderstand me)however we always see things from our strong Western point of view. If it was from an average Thai point of view(from what I have seen so far and if the girl wasnt harmed)This inncident would not even been a single letter in the Newspaper or one word on the tv news. If you are a westerner travel here often or living in Thailand and what that father did sounds insaine, you have just spent your time inside the comfortable condo all time. I heard taboo things daily that never been written here or I havnt seen anybody writing about it yet. Things that 90% of The Thais knows and accept but nobody speak laud about it.

  12. I don't want to be mean to the OP because I think his sentiment expressed is a common one, which is that Bangkok traffic is terrible and sitting in traffic appears boring and tedious however as a Bangkok driver, I can assure him that it is much more relaxing sitting in my freezing air conditioning than walking around in the blistering heat, getting in and out of crappy taxis, riding with the BTS jammed in like sardines and breathing in germs or on a motorbike in the heat and exhaust fumes and battling the elements.

It will hurt OP's feelings but he has no frame of reference.

If he had the opportunity he would find out that there is really no going back.

It will hurt OP's feelings but he has no frame of reference.

there must be more than a dozen threads, not only concerning cars but other subjects too, in which bitterly frustrated and financially handicapped expats not only vent their displeasure and judgment but adding strong insults based on pure stupidity.

in housing threads i read more than once utmost silly comments such as "why would i need a house with two bedrooms? i can only sleep in one!"

Note that I mean expensive cars ONLY in BKK not in Thailand.

  13. plenty of decent restaurants around.

Please name them and where are they?

Depends on what your looking for but here's a few that I enjoy:

The Red Ant on Srinagarindra just north of Hwy 7. A little upscale, Thai cuisine.

Sinthorn Steak House on Ramkhamheang near soi 85, opposite soi 42. Outdoor bbq, good prices, a lot of muslim clientele or maybe muslim owned, so no pork or beer. Have a new store at front that sells fairly decent quality beef also.

El Mariachi Taquera on Srinagarindra out towards Seacon Square; I believe to be the best in BKK, best guacamole for sure.

Lighthouse Pub and Restuarant off Seri Thai road beside the small lake. Food is ok, atmosphere is nice, good beer specials; usually buy one get one Carlsbergs.

Fourwings Hotel does a good international buffet, they also have a good Chinese restaurant with excellent dimsum. But best of all is the bar, Beer Capital BKK, Guiness and Hoegarden on tap, and probably 15-20 imports in bottle, few ciders too.

Seoul Grille hahaha..... my gf's favorite of lately...... But if you like Japanese/Korean BBQ, Nikuya in Seacon is really good; part of the Oishi Group.

BangKapi market is large and quite interesting.

Lets be honest here, the talat BangKapi stinks to high heaven on a good day, gawd forbid you should ever find yourself in the one on HappyLand.

Yes Panthip Plaza 2 is ok, as is N Mark Plaza, IT Plaza and thats about it

talat BangKapi is a noseful on occasion, but I go at least once or twice a week for fish/seafood, fruits, and veggies. Never been to the one on HappyLand didn't know it even existed.

You sound a little bitter.........maybe its time for a change of scenery!!!

    Cheers

Thanks for taking the time to reply, always good to hear of other options.

Correct, I should have included a couple of smilies, I think its great out this way, maybe just take things for granted and forget whats available within travelling distance.

    From above,

1, never been in it but driven past it.

    2. agreed been in there a few times.

3, agreed the mrs and I both enjoy eating there.

4, been there a couple of times, nothing special IMHO.

5 & 6 not the type of food the mrs or I enjoy.

I enjoy (weather permitting) the outdoor seafood place at the back of the football stadium.

Also enjoy the seafood at Ban Chan Krung just before Seri Thai 95, indoor/outdoor eating, the wooden buildings are amazing, very popular especially at weekends.

Chocolate Ville is just a short taxi ride away and well worth a visit.

There are a couple of places at the back of Paradise Park we enjoy going to sorry cant remember the names, I did notice a couple of Japanese/Korean type places there in the ground floor of Paradise Park.

Thanks for the tips about Ban Chan Krung; will definitely check it out.

The gf and I have been to Chocolate Ville a few times, New Years being the latest...... Its a nice place also and enjoy the atmosphere.

    Again thanks for the tips!!!!

Where will you take your gf on valentines day? facepalm.gif
