  1. Butter is Better about a block away from Pantip Plaza is my comfort food haven. They have a web site or facebook page. I've had the bacon cheese burger, New Jersey spaghetti and meatballs, oven roasted real turkey sandwich, huevous rancherosand pork goulash. All excellent and so much more on the menu. Prices vary but are reasonable and well worth it. The bacon cheese burger is the best i've had in CM.

  2. I love my Kindle Paperwhite. It even has an experimental browser on it which cannot handle complex sites like TV but you can get your email at least. Just the wifi should do. I also got the 3G but it always wants wifi for browser access. Beats the hell out of carrying around 135 hard copy books?.

  3. Wat Suan Mokkh asks for 2000 baht for the 10 day retreat. Concrete beds and wood pillows. Its not for the just curious crowd. Check out Wat Doi Suthep. There are a variety of lengths of time you can stay from 2 days to 21 or even 26, i've heard, but 10 days for sure. Its run on a donation basis. Google it. In my opinion, being a monk for 10 days is almost insulting to the real commitment it takes to be a monk. Look at whst it takes to participate in a meditation and you will get all the austerities you are looking for eccept the begging for food. You get fed twice a day but no food after noon.

  4. I primarily go there for the restroom and a/c. I did take a Thai language course there though. I cannot see how those shops stay solvent. It seems they are over staffed and usually empty when I'm there. Same same with the IT floors of other large malls.

  5. Thank everyone for the input. I was looking for something small and portable in a back pack as I have not set up permanent rez yet. I will take a look at Siam Electronics and Big C. I know I can buy it pre-cooked but I like to add my own touches to it.

    Thanks again.

  6. I know the concept of only making enough rice for one person is an alien one here but I would like to know if anyone has seen these small cookers in any of the stores in CM? Tesco-Lotus Super Highway does not have them. I will be living in a monthly rental hotel and I doubt if I can use a small stove.

  7. I will be arriving in LOS after a one day layover in Manila. I want to see a bit of Manila and have night in a hotel until the next morning flight. Will I have any problem at Thai airport immigration because of that one day visit? I am entering with a long-stay multi O-A. I don't know if they will say I have to come direct from america with no other visa stamp in between or if it will be a non-issue.

  8. I am 57 and from the US. My questions are: Do I need to pick a Thai bank in Thailand to transfer the 800B to or can the bank statement be from a bank that does business in Thailand like Bank of America or Citibank? Or, can the statement just come from my bank in the US? Do I really have to put the money in an account, wait 3 months and then file for the Visa?

Once the Visa is applied for, about how long does it take to get? a couple weeks?

    Cheers
