seems the Brtish man was out of funds, because in the afternoon of January 20, at 3 pm, the suspect tried to rob some Cambodian schoolkids by menacing them with a stick and asking for money at the Borey Prem Prey market in Siem Reap.

The police were called and they took the British man into custody and then sent him to the Department of Investigation and Procedure. The British man was surly and refused to cooperate with the police or answer any questions.

I keep images of passport ID page, current visa, and most recent entry stamp and TM6 card on my mobile. Never needed to show them, but I've at least something to show if asked. No idea if they'd be accepted, but I'm not about to carry my passport around with me.

This is a horrible situation, and it is really sad that you could not find a sympathetic senior immigration official who would work with you to find a solution. Frankly, this is one of those situations where skirting the law using agents seems to me a moral action. For around 20,000 baht a year, you can make all the immigration issues go away. There is a risk, but a small one if you choose the right agent.

Yes and there’s ways around the 400 k in the bank

It also depends on the choice of hospital. I'm thinking of getting comparative rates in CM for all the big hospitals, because several are purported to be considerably more expensive. I'm referring to the daily rate if I was occupying a bed.

It's a pity there is not a consumer group which could publish the comparison; however, in Thailand they would probably get sued for defamation.

Chiang Puak hospital behind small bus station, never need to go often but over last 25 yers used them, good fast inexpensive nice doctor went there two days ago for medical certificate for renew driving license cost 80 Baht.

  5. Last Sunday in DaNang I watched the lifeguard on the beach, what a great job he was doing, walking up and down the beach with a whistle anyone going in the water in the unsafe marked area he blew his whistle shouted at them to get out, told them where they should go, also any leaves any wood anything being washed up on the beach he picked up, the beach was spotless so clean, I’ve never seen anything like this in Thailand, if they had lifeguards there probably be playing with phones lazing about doing nothing.

According its enlightened policy of never doing anything to assist British citizens under any circumstances, the British Embassy would have let him serve his 100 days in Phatum Thani jail in lieu of paying the overstay fine followed by transfer to Immigration's medieval standing room only jail in Soi Suan Plu, until he could raise the fare home, i.e. until he died which would probably not be long in there.   Sounds like Uncle Sam might stump up for his fine and repatriation.  Lucky for him he's a yank.

Unless he was a immigrant etc
