I am taking responsibility for a Thai boy, single mother. He is 5 yo and IMHO extremely bright, imaginative and curious, as no doubt most children could be, given encouragement.
( I often wonder how many parents given one of the tests for a Mandarin might fare.."Write down EVERYTHING you know".)
He is a whizz on tablets, PC's and drawing and constructing physical and PC railway layouts. No Freeman Dyson though. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Freeman_Dyson#Early_life
He can program the early stages of LiteBot from code.org and figure out difficult Plants v Zombies 2 stuff, and of course the continuous Why ? Why ? Why? which I try to answer.
Not just a bookworm he excels on his scooter and in play areas like the Funarium.
Actuarially I won't live long enough to guide him to the completion of whatever education he might be capable of.
I have arranged a small trust for this, but don't know how to advise the trustee, who knows less than I do but is 100% capable of carrying out my wishes..
So I would like advice please,as David48, on part of the system.
When he finishes his primary and secondary, (he now goes to a popular, 99% Thai, inexpensive private school) , what then ?
I guess he would be 16 ? What, if any recognisable qualifications might he get ? He has more English than the school admin, who ignore emails.
How to qualify for further education ? The trustee would fund fees and accomodation and living expenses.(family completely excluded)
Are there any scholarships available. ?
I have other concerns than the academic. Taking him home from school, I see that most of the older boys congregate in what appear to me as dubious places, I don't think they are study groups, so like most he will be influenced by his peers..no solution ?
His home life is with a dysfunctional family, can he rise above this somehow ?
i could arrange for him to have the use of my condo but suspect it would be exploited by his relaives, to put it mildly.

Going for a minor service for a friend's Fortuner, the service guy showed me a thing (see pic) that was stuffed between engine and cab.
Anyone please know what it was ?
Seemed a bit odd that it had been smouldering
The owner is abroad and never opens the hood.
Thank You

The bike (honda Zoomer), is in my name and on permanent loan to a girl.
I understand that it is insured for theft only..I bought it new one year ago with the standard Honda insurance.
The girl says that if I transfer it to her, it will be covered for accident damage.
I do not believe this, can anyone plese confirm my belief or otherwise.
Quite frankly I would not transfer it whatever, I think it would be sold within a week or two,
but having a good reason not to transfer would ease things.

There's a coinciidence!
Only yesterday I cancelled mine. Well I tried, but they don't acknowledge or respond to emails, in English and Thai, and when I did once get thro' on the phone, they said my a/c number and phone number did not exist. That "fact" does not prevent them billing me of course, I have not paid for some time. There is no updated status of amount owing, just a single amount monthly.
Like many I got it for EPL, with no simple way to find out their schedule and particularly replays I found the whole "system" too frustrating.
I have no interest in any of their other channels, and for those who do again no information on any schedule.
Not wishing to advertise, I find that the "every day of the year" system is perfect. Served me well over the WC.
I record everything and watch via USB on my big TV.
If I was smart maybe I could connect PC to TV.

I tried to start a new topic, but cannot, so I will post this here.
It appears that there is no breakdown of the Gaza casualties, so for those who might like to see them (drawn up by Aljazeera, who never refer to them in their coverage). !
It is in english plus a graph

A great idea to plant trees along about 300 metres of beach, but for whatever reason they are all dying....I wonder why.
A similar fate for many picnic tables, whose heavy concrete tops coild fall in your lap, maybe better they all were destroyed

Sir, I don't know your price range, but I've had trouble finding clothes in THAILAND that fit my needs in life. Traveling, shopping, looking......it's a frustrating ordeal. It's just easier to order on various websites, have everything shipped to myus.com, and then one box shipped, via DHL, to my condo in CHA-AM. It's usually four to five days with DHL. Good Luck!

Looks Great and Prices OK, just thinking that the "guard" would not see it as swim wear !!!!! although it is of course !

Suffering from too much sun over the years I need to cover the larger parts, back and chest when swimming
Previously an old T-Shirt did the trick, but now a pool attendant where i swim goes into a rage and demands I wear a proper swim suit or get out of the pool.
I prefer to take the least path of resistance.
If anyone knows of an outlet in Bangkok I can go there, but prefer Pattaya area. BTW, not a wet suit.
Sorry could not change but into buy
Thanks in Advance

Having created a "Trust" (Outside of Thailand) to pay for a child's education when I snuff it, I have to wonder whether it is futile, considering the culture here and his environment.
Perhaps I should be better leaving my assets to http://www.operationsmile.org/index.html.
Please don't answer ref, a "Trust". which is not recognised here, but the arrangement is firewalled to my satisfaction, in extremis.

quote "But the loonies who continue to spout nonsense that dogs cannot live in unit and must have farm, really need to either read a little or do not speak at all."
We really need to hear from the dogs, so have you any sources for their views on the topic ?
The "ad hominem" post suggests the author is suffering from a guilt complex, but I'm only a psychiatrist so what do I know ? I'm categorised as a loonie.

quote "I also thought fleetingly of the Catch-22 scenario but quickly dismissed it as too silly and hugely improbable. I therefore concluded that the likely answer rests in the cover sheet of the sealed will which I would guess also contains the executor's name etc, that being the only person able to retrieve the will, without involving a court/probate process. Presumably there's some sort of back and forth process between the Amphur and the hospitals that allows the Executor to retrieve the mortal remains on the basis of the will coversheet?"
AS tallguy says "murky"
WE do not have the advantage of a poster who has been down this route with a sefinitive experience.

Catch 22 ? You need the death certificate to get the will and you need the will to get th death cerificate.

quote "Time to go shopping!."
Julia Roberts to haughty shop assistants on Rodeo Drive, who would not serve her the previous day in her hooker outfit.
Now it's my turn, BTW Baht to GBP about 90 for a while during a previous crisis, or did I just dream that.?

I kept 2 chiuahas in a condo when I wasnt allowed. The building never found out. They did have signs up saying that anyone caught would first get a warning and then they would cut the water supply!!

Like most laws here, "Seen more in the breach, than the observance"

I like Peter Singer's way of discussing the ethics of helping others.
If you were wearing your very best clothes and shoes and you saw a child drowning in shallow water, what would you do ?
Go in and get him/her , What Else ?
But you might ruin your clothes and shoes.
Only a few thousand dollars, no big deal, compared to a child's life.
You can save a child's life in some countries by donating a few thousand dollars.
Ah,,but......
..........................................................................................................................................................................................
Some will reply and rightly say how much is siphoned of by charities and other reasons for not going that route. But closer to home ?

It won't matter how long he lives regarding the future of Zimbabwe, it is the Shona (cattle) a vast majority v. the Matabele (Zulus), and the general kleptocracy of Black leaders in Africa. Mugabe is in good company
BTW I lived there during his rule

I believe the executor of your will cannot be one of the beneficiaries (might be a conflict of interest), but better ask a lawyer.
A lawyer is not required for a will.
TVM, but believe is contrary to some who say positively the opposite in earlier posts.and other sources. As I have no relatives I can't hink were is any conflict might arise.
As for asking a lawyer here, I'm sorry I would not believe a word they said unless they proved it to me, by showing me the references/precedents.
.
So if any lawyer reading this wishes to post/ PM me with the appropriate Thailand CCC references, he/she will do a service to his profession and possibly get some business.
In the course of my research into this matter, I have emailed a number of recommended law firms, their answers are as equally
conflicting as many of the posts, with the constant that I should consult them..but they would say that wouldn't they.?
The most generous interpretation i can place on this confusion, is that, the law being the law here, it is interpreted to fit the case.

I never cross waiters, they might spit in your soup, or worse.
BTW I went once to a Thai company meeting where the coffee etc, was bought in by a girl moving on her knees, she was not handicapped
Myself and my bosses, cut off all contact with that company.

Any Beneficiaries out there ?
To put it very very simply..I want my beneficiary, who is also named as executor, to get my money from my Bangkok Bank Account, specified in the will, (officially translated and signed sealed and delivered at the Amphur).Without a lawyer.
Has anyone been able to do this please ?
Shouting, yelling and speaking loud.

I have a theory based on the mechanism of hearing. Many cultures live in " a cradle of noise", from birth. Dogs,hawkers,TV.etc. Any organised gathering invariably has speakers the size of minivans upended, rattling the windows. The hairs in the ears, vibrate to interpret sound. Like any structure, overused, they are subject to fatigue and failure. During some tests at a university, some students, Asian and European were tested for
abilty to hear a range of sounds. Without exception, the Asians had very poor hearing in the lower ranges than the Europeans. Even the elderly European staff had better hearing. Hence my theory why they need to raise their voices to be heard.
Boiler shop (the real ones, not the scams), workers were always identifiable by the way they stood next to each other positioned to speak directly into eac other's ears. My obsevations at Wallsend Slipway & Engineering,
