  1. I'm planning to be in Phuket the weekend of Oct. 21st.

Is there anyone on this Phuket forum who actually lives in Phuket ?

OK, if the next party is a success (i.e. more than 2 people) I might consider the one after that ! :D

Oi!!! A few of us actually DO live here... and we did have a party a few months back (with all 9 of us). Soooooooo with you and Totster and Sadman and the other 9 plus all those others who VILL BE COMING :D ... just consider yourself disadvantaged if you're not there. :D

Hang on, have I missed a month (or 2) here ? If I remember right wasnt there only 2 people who turned up for the last one ?

I cant remember who they were but im sure Sirburr was one of them ? :o

As for Freedom bar, no thanks..... last time I went there the bird behind the bar sat crying all night because her boyfriend ditched her, which is all well & good but not good when my glass is sitting on empty ! :D

  2. Hi all,

    My name is Randa in(I'm)

    24 and in(I'm) from the Netherlands  :D

Just returned from Phuket 3 weeks ago

    for me?? ?

also my first visit and ofcourse (spacing) also fell in love! With the country  :D

    Not a sentence

I am now thinking of coming back next year for a year to work and live although I am finding out that working in Phuket isnt punctuation as easy as it used to be.

Il I'll probably come back in march and check some stuff out while there.

If I want to come for a year what time is best to start it meaning wich which month.

Is teaching english(TEFL course) really my only option?

Are there any internet sites for nice appartments the ones I found were all villa's villas.I was really hoping to leed

    lead tourists

punctuation the guides I had there

thier? english sucked but I heard no way thats punctuationpossible?  :o

Any pointers or advice is welcome!!ThanxThanks all in advance!

    Hoping to hear sometingsomething  :D

    Regards Ran

    Corrections in red.

Let me get this straight - you want to come to Phuket to teach english?

Seriously though there are almost no jobs available to foreigners in Phuket unless you are highly specialised or have a teaching degree. Also it is one of the most expensive places in Thailand to stay.

A great place for a holiday but at 24 you should look at work in nearby asian countries that have less restrictions on work permits and er... maybe stop thinking about TEFL.

Baa baa bobo, you sure know how to tell 'em how it is !! :D

To think, this guy has "probably" fell madly in love with a girl in a Phuket bar with hopes of a better life ahead, and you have just shattered his dreams ! How can you sleep at night ? :D

  3. You mean, like officially, as in that is when the prices go up? Or when they start to get busy? Ours starts december, business doesn't really pick up until the middle of the month.

SBK, I take it when you say "our" high season your referring to Koh Phangan ?

The place that has 12 high seasons per year ?.... Which only last for 2 or 3 days (max) ?

Koh Phangan will NEVER have a high season, the only thing you survive from is your neighbour Ko Samui combined with a pathetic, unrealistic backpacker movie..... which in actual fact was filmed in Pi-Pi !!! :o

As for Sriracha John, my guess is your from Sriracha (hey, aren’t I clever), which is poor mans Pattaya so I guess we wont be seeing you in Phuket !!! :D

And think_too_mut, yes your right, Tourists to Phuket are down by 70%.... for Japs !!!

  4. .....not more rain talk  :o

    I agree, booooring !!!

The sun is out today with barely a cloud in site (ok maybe a bit hovering over the mountains). Yes we have had rain and yes it was needed !

Mother nature does give a helping hand to Phuket once in a while, as much as you people like to say otherwise !! :D

  5. If you do not have a work permit you should not be working. When you have a work permit you can renew your visa (get new one) in Penang and perhaps obtain a multi entry to make it easier. If you qualify for extension of stay from immigration on a yearly basis that would be the best option but you must meet the income requirements for your nationality and have the work permit.

I seem to have this the wrong way round. My non-imm visa B expires in 5 weeks, too short a time to get the WP sorted. Can I get an extension on the basis the WP is being processed?

    If so, how, where, etc?

But I have put more detail on this in a new thread. May be better to discuss it there.

Word is this WP3 form can take 7 days to get from the Labour office ? Could anyone clarify this ?

  6. Hi DavieA,

Sorry about the wasted trip.  After your wasted experience in Penang, I am having the lawyers I am working with re-check to make sure that I don't need the WP3.  Paranoia breeds success around here.

Steve, I wish I had a 60 multiple entry, I would be banging at your door to get this thing converted right now.  I'm losing time, energy, money and the biggest -enthusiam - trying to make sure I get this right the first time around.

    Chok dii khrappom!

So does Penang issue 60 day tourist visas ?

If they do and transferring a 60 day tourist visa into a B visa is so easy then surely this is the answer ? Although I have to say it all sounds too easy to be true.

Does anyone know yet if the Manila Embassy will require the WP3 form ? I have heard the rule applies to all Asian countries ?

  7. there is an open air quiet, upper "chill out" deck with cushions on the floor, minimal lighting ...we also have three a/c double cabins which we did not rent out for 300 baht per half hour to the 60 marines who had a "back from iraq" cruise in april since that would be encouraging immoral and illegal activities so dont ask elliot when you get on board...

we havent advertised these residents of thailand special price yet excpet to talk about it here so we didnt get 20 people last friday but we're cool with trying it again this friday if you're interested...

we did email most of the owners of bars in patong to offer them 100 baht per person commission for an after-closing hours cruise to start at 130 so they wouldnt be losing any money...but not one even answered...go figure...

we have ten tuk tuks and taxis liined up to be available to bring people direct from the bars to the pier and come back at 6am or whatever time the customers want to pick them up...

anyone interested for friday night can call our office at (076) 280-737 between 10am and 6pm...

I might be interested if you could arrange an alternative form of transport, instead of tuk tuks ? Reckon I might have 20 for you ! :o

  8. Spent lots of time there. Cool place .Go at least once or tice a year. It has is good to visit but can't stand long stays without a break. Guam Palau and Saipan all near by or better back home in LOS. :D

Had lots of great times :D  , but many more here in LOS :D . Hello to all my buddies at Magambo's, P Burgos , Clark, Boracay, Lagaspi. :D

Boracay, heaven on earth !! I believe its been voted the best beach in the world on more than one occasion, I went there to have a look and have to agree, awesome !!! Diving was out of this world. Only downside was the hassle from the Kathoeys which I didnt like, much worse than the Thai ones !

As for guns yeah, very scary ! What is even more scary is the security guard who was working at my resort in Angeles, handed his gun to me to let my mate take a photo, still got the pic complete with security guard smiling without a care in the world !!!

When I went back a 2nd time I didnt enjoy it ! Thailand millions times better.

Good to come on here and be able to say this, I went on to the Philippines version of thaivisa (cant remember the name of it) and got banned just for saying Thailand is better. I guess those yanks just don’t like hearing the truth !! (yeah, place is packed with them)……..

Oh, and I think you may find its Mogambos, not Magambos :o

  9. ok guys, i appreciate the input but let's try to focus...

i need a poll on the question -

which would you prefer: pay 1000 baht pp minimum applicable towards 40 baht heinekens, 20 baht shots

    or

500 baht cover charge with 30 baht heinekens and 15 baht shots?

    thanks!

and i'm concerned about drining anywhere in thailand - its like playing a video game expert level on acid (i've heard)

My advice is leave out the shots all together, people dont fall for the free shot thing anymore, especially when they know its nothing more than crushed ice and a dash of cheap vodka !

  10. DJ -

First - Do you speak, read, and write Thai?  If not - ask yourself - how easy is it to find leagl employment in your own home country - in the capital city - if you are a  foreigner who does not speak, read, and write the main national language?

Next - The supply of foreigners who want to work here is vastly greater than the number of job openings that are realistically available for non-Thai fluent employees.

    Good luck.

    Indo-Siam

Such true advice yet sure to be ignored !! :o

  11. What do you think?

Unfortunatley I don't live in Phuket (oh, how I wish!), but it seems like a good idea. Perhaps you should state the max/min number of people you would take out on a cruice.

Good luck, next time I am down in Phuket, I may just check it out!

we need at least 20 to pay expenses but can legally carry 120!

Any chance of fetching it round to Patong, if so I might have 20 people for you ?..... PM me if you like.

    Cheers

  12. there are always bodies washing up on shore in phuket...its a tradition here along with psychotic thai girlfriends and wives providing free transgender alterations...

There, fixed it for you :D

    Patong is buzzing right now.

Last night I was driving home from work at about 9:00 pm and Bangla and Rat-U-Thit were just hopping. Busiest I have seen it since the big T.

And last night too, couldn’t move down Bangla ! Think it had a lot to do with those biker weirdo’s, Jesters, Black Rose whatever they call themselves.

Loads of them, the rain soon cleared them away which was good ! :D (hopefully they returned back to Pattaya)..... :o

  13. I feel it necessary, 'cos the plan is for me to move permanently to BKK in the not too distant future - I have found from previous visits that there isn't too much work for me in my discipline, so it would be good for at least one of us to have a decent job till I can pick something up.  Hence my reluctance for her to quit.

Regarding repayment, the whole amount would (hopefully) be repaid October via Western Union.

Perhaps all this is a test, I've no idea - the seeds of doubt are sown!

So, anyway, if I did go for this and if/when there are further demands, what happens when I tell her (yet again) I have little money? As it happens in this case I've told her I could only loan her the money from my C/card, she wasn't too happy about that and said she'd rather quit than me have problems, (which I won't have) but she could be a step ahead of me there.

I guess it's a balance between suspicion and trust...

why bother wasting 2 years of her life on a 'relatively' measly 100k?

100K is hardly "measly" to any Thai person- rich or poor. In fact, it is equal to a year's wages for a lot of the population who earn 8K per month. For someone like her who has a decent job, 100K is a substantial downpayment on a shiny new car... remaining payments would be about 3-4 k per month.

Why do you feel it is necessary to underwrite her indecision? She allegedly made the decision to leave a 60 K job and take a 40K job. Why does she want to quit such a great job after only 3 weeks? If she stays with the job for 2 months she will supposedly earn 80K, which would solve all the family problems, and have her 100K returned.

Has she discussed any repayment terms with you? Probably not.

Also- if you go for it, you will prove to her that she has set you up perfectly as taxin described, and there will be no end of these "measly" requests. In fact, the next problem will probably be much bigger, since a precedent has been set.

You plan to move in the "non too distant future" ?.... Now this sounds to me like there are no real plans in place ?

Your right, there is not a lot of work for you in LOS and I would suspect this lady would prefer it this way, you are more use to her 1,000s of miles away ! "Absence makes the heart grow fonder and the wallet more weaker" !!

"Good for us at least one of us to have a decent job" ?.... So you think shes going to work her arse off while you wait around until you "pick something up" ? Most importantly, do you think her family will approve of that ? You may not know this but in a Farang/Thai relationship the farang is the provider, not the lady !

What happens when you say next time she asks for money and you say you have little money ? Your a farang, you have money, you cant possibly have "very little" :o Anyway, sounds to me like she doesnt care that you have little money, otherwise she wouldnt be piling on the guilt !!

"She would rather quit than you have problems (which you dont want)" ?.... ha ha, and she knows it !! The guilt close, best of them all !!!

Sorry mate, DUMP HER !!!! :D

  14. Yes , my wife is Thai.

It's just that I want to be covered when something happen ... you never know.

Let's say .. the one who rent our houses doesn't pay the rent or destroy it or even burned it. So I want it to be legal that I will get pay back for the damages wherever it come from.

So your wife is Thai which is a good start. You have 2 options, you use a third party rental agency in Phuket (there are several) or you do it yourself, doing it yourself will of course be much cheaper.

If you are going to be living in Phuket then you would be wise to do it yourself. Agents will take a percentage which can range between 10% & 30% depending on the term, most people use agents because they are not resident in Thailand.

As for your house being "burned down" all you need to do is ensure you have sufficient insurance in place, this can be obtained in Phuket at reasonable rates. There is no way you can hold the tenant responsible for this however, you can take a holding deposit to cover minimal damage or loss.

With regards to the owner not paying rent thats simple, you take a month deposit (or more), if they dont pay you ask them to leave and keep the deposit ! Again you are better off doing it yourself, going through an agent will be more difficult to kick them out because of contracts and certain conditions.

  15. Thanks guys for the answers.

Actually, my wife and I  want to buy a few houses in Phuket to rent out in the company name and I thought to open the real estate company to do that.

For here in Belgium , you need to have studied about real estate before you can open the business so I'm not sure if they need that too in Thailand.

I also wondering if the foreigners who open the real estate business , have the licenses.

You do not need a real estate company nor do you need a specific license for renting out properties.

    Is your wife Thai ?

  16. She OWNS your house!

Does she OWN the vehicles too?

    What else does she OWN?

Bank accounts in her OWN name too?

Is this biz being set up as her OWN?

When the dastardly deed (promise, promise and then let me down! ) is done, pray tell us why  she would need you then?  Because you are madly, unrelentingly in love with her?

You can't possibly be a chump because I happen to know you're not from Chumphon!

Sell the house and other assets, give her a "more than fair"  cut, take the rest and find a farang woman.

    Kids?  God help you!

    Now get some sleep!

Nobody's message will get any worse than this! -- this means things can only get better!    :D  :D

Ever heard of TRUST or LOVE Harmonica, your last post was brilliant and you are right no post could be worse than this. :o

I am sure you have heard the phrase "Dont risk what you can't afford to loose" Well :D

450,000 baht for a coffee shop business 'aint bad however, as someone has already said previously it all depends on the immediate cash flow, does she already have a customer base ? Does it have assets ? If it’s a “yes & yes” then your over the 1st hurdle.

Another question for the wife is this, ask her if it was her OWN money would she pay 450,000 baht for it ? My guess is probably not !

Then again, sounds like things have come to her pretty easy upto now so maybe she doesnt really care ! The more money you give to a Thai the quicker they lose the respect for it, after a while they will eventually assume that it grows on trees therefore price is irrelevant !!

Another question, ask her if she will be getting a cut of the 450,000 baht ? Thais are famous for this, even with there own families and friends this can often be the case. OK, it might earn you a slap across the face but at least your showing that your not letting your guard down easy !!

Bear one thing in mind, Thais don’t sell successful business’s ! :D

  17. Hey i just looked at my passport and turns out my 60 day tourist visa expires tomorrow!  I thought it expired next week (which was when i was going to go to immigration to renew it.

Next time look at your entry stamp when you get it, then look at your diary, and look at the weekends/public holidays, and then plan exactly when to renew it.

    No excuse really.

Like he needed someone to tell him that ! :o
