I can tell you that the Duangtawan Hotel closed its doors at 10pm on Saturday 9th January. We were a party of 10 booked in for dinner that evening and apart from a few staff the hotel was empty. After the meal, we put our hands in our pockets and gave the remaining waitressing staff a good tip as a send-off. We were told that the hotel planned to reopen sometime in March this year (subject to a number of factors).
As we walked through the empty and eerily quiet hotel to the car park, it was sad to see the 2 receptionists (no, I don't know why they were still there!) closing the doors behind us.
Hopefully it won't be too long before they get enough bookings to reopen.

    Regards

    Joe

We were wondering if they had bit the bullet permanently.  Good to hear they may be opening again.

  2. Poor driving skills and suicidal driving like pulling out from a left-hand side road onto the main road without as much as a glance to the driver's right to check for oncoming traffic.  No understanding of "right-of-way" as well as a total disregard for one's own life.  Totally suicidal.  And yet, sit at a corner and watch MCs pull out from side roads without looking?  It's the normal.  Most MC drivers do not look.  There is a reason for the slaughter on the roads.

But, unless I am mistaken, Phuket had previously been reported on here as not enforcing the mandatory health insurance requirement for those seeking retirement extensions on the basis of original OA visas. If so, then they have clearly now had a change of heart.

Moreover, the fact that they are apparently not permitting retirees with original OA visas to switch to marriage as the reason for their annual extensions marks them out as a rogue office par excellence in my book.

Which means that perhaps the "agent" route to help obtain the marriage extension may be the best route.  If they grant the first extension with the help of an agent, it would be difficult for them not to grant subsequent extensions based on marriage.

As you have the required 800K already in a Thai bank account, the easy solution is to obtain a Health Insurance policy from one of the Thai approved Insurers, then reapply based on retirement this year.

The following year you can change to marriage.

@Peter Denishas done extensive research on this issue. The LMG Thai approved policy meets the Health Insurance requirements, very cheap, but essentially useless for cover as it has a 200,000 exclusion on claims.

If Peter doesn't reply shortly, send him a PM.

I got this from Peter Denis awhile back.

I don't think oral sex with a Pattaya working girl is real smart!

I don't think oral sex with anyone but a monogamous partner is real smart.  Otherwise, latex is your friend!  ????

    any further info to this?

    Nope.
The way they refuse to prescribe CBD oil unless you're pretty much dying of a dreaded disease, you'd think that CBD oil is a heavy duty narcotic.  It's not.  Purely medical, no high.
So I don't get it.  Plus I've checked in other places in Thailand just to get prices.  The stuff is absurdly expensive.  Up to 5000 THB for 1 milliliter.  That's simple ridiculous. This whole dog and pony  show has one purpose:  Give handful of select individuals and companies the ability to get wealthier by producing cannabis based produces.
Meanwhile make medical cannabis prohibitively difficult to obtain and expensive while maintaining laws on the books to throw normal citizens in jail for using regular cannabis while allowing the selected few individuals and companies to use it and prosper.

It they are going to claim to have a medical cannabis program, then allow people to use it for those conditions that it is internationally prescribed for like in the US and EU.

Not true. There are other Medicinal Cannabis clinics in CM.

Do an Internet search and only two medical cannabis clinics come up for Chiang Mai:  Nakornping Hospital and CM Mediclinic.
CM Mediclinic website says they will prescribe in the future but they do not right now.  So that only leaves Nakornping Hospital.

If you know of other cannabis clinics operating in Chiang Mai, can you supply the names of these clinics as well as their locations (like a GPS or Google Map link)?

  8. Standing alone and not wearing a mask, the Republican president spoke from a White House balcony at an event called "A Peaceful Protest for Law & Order" made up of hundreds of largely maskless Black and Latino supporters, and promptly triggered millions of Democrats, progressives, and main-stream media members who will continue to melt down over the next 48 hours of the current news cycle.

Frankly, if you are running a business in the tourist industry, unless you have access to 18 months operating expenses through a loan or through cash flow then your business is dead.  A victim of Covid.  The government seems unable to or unwilling to properly support the sector.

However, when they go under there are billionaires waiting in the wings to buy the properties for a fraction of there worth.  Billionaires who are worth significantly more then before Covid.  Funny that, 'huh?

  10. Shut everything down again.  The billionaires make more billions and the stock market goes, up, up, up - so lockdowns are great for the economy.  And lock the borders of the provinces - also great for intra-province domestic tourism maybe the TAT should start a new promo - "Tour Your Local Big-C During Your One Day A Week Out Of The House Lockdown Special!!! - Get Your Government Coupon For 40% Off Masks and 2 Meter Rulers!!!"

it is not all the time - mostly just malls and supermarkets...

And I think they don't know the answer - when you are dealing with a deadly pandemic, better safe than sorry...

If someone thinks, "Better safe than sorry" does that mean that they plan to wear a mask for the rest of their lives?  SARS-Cov-2 is here and I doubt it will ever go away. Vaccines with a 50% efficacy are not going to eradicate the virus.

If you believe that everyone should wear masks in public, the please answer this:
What criteria must be met in your mind to make you personally comfortable with being in public without a mask?

I'm not trying to be cheeky, on the contrary, I truly want to understand how people who feel the need to wear masks at all time in public think this is will end - or in your opinion - will it ever end?  I'm simply trying to see where there is an end to this particular string.  Is there an end to this string?  Honest, heartfelt feedback would be appreciated.
