  1. What to say?

I agree that large tour groups can make some feel uncomfortable, its not their race, its just that its a large "mob". I have experienced many Chinese visitors at my hotel in Pai, mainly young singles for a day or so. Most are polite, well spoken and dress very well. I would consider they are not wealthy, just middle class, not into the "group mode".

Its the tour operators that cause the problem, so much they promise to show the group, rush here, rush there, hurry get on the bus! Over all they have paid for just about everything in the "package tour", so you do not see them spend at bars and restaurants much.

No matter what race, tour groups in general cater for the not so confident travelers.

  2. 1978... in Paris, about 9.00 am.

We enjoy a coffee in a cafe with seating for 50 or so people overlooking the river Seine. Then the waitress comes around and replaces all the menus.......yes, higher prices on the new menus.

10 minutes later a tour bus group of about 40 people arrive....

    5555 universal tourism practices. :-)

  3. The "white powder" they were adding to joints was probably just dry-sifted resin glands from the cannabis they grew.

It's quite common to do because it's the only pharmacologically active part of the plant. The rest is just plant material which produce tars and other unhealthy by-products when burned.

Some experts say that smoking the whole but rather than just the resin is like eating a pizza and consuming the box too.

If you smoke a lot, like two of my friends who have chronic back pain due to spinal cord injuries, you can get accustomed to it and consume more than you used to.

One has a license to produce in Canada and smokes 30+ grams a day. His lung function was tested in the 80 percentile and he never looks like the "typical" stoner. No slurred speech, memory lapses etc. The other is a PhD, smokes during breaks at work and has a better memory than me and probably the majority of people here who don't smoke.

The worst side effect of cannabis is the laws against it. It's immoral IMO to put people in a cage for smoking a harmless herb.

5k under the table, the "evidence" goes "up in smoke" and the happy couple leave slightly poorer (and no smarter).

I've known a lot of hard-core weed smokers over the years (never touch drugs myself, but I'm often on best terms with Jack Daniels, but sometimes little Bailey's or Kaluha makes a nice change).

Friends back in Canada years ago used to devote years to plant cultivation, hybrids, splicing, etc to try and produce the highest possible THC content they could. Their pot made ever other kind of pot look like skunk weed.

Surprise, surprise. It just wasn't enough though, was it ? Some of them would smoke pot as often as I smoked cigarettes (back when I was still smoking). Smoking 4 joints between waking up and getting to the job site 90 minutes later was not uncommon. Meanwhile, weekend parties ? Seems even that hi-grade weed just wouldn't give enough of a buzz. But hey, add a little "something" to it (usually in a white powder form) and then convince people that super buzz was from the weed ?

That's when I stopped hanging out with that crowd.

If they had to add PCP or other drugs to their high-grade weed, and then get other people smoking it (without knowing what they were smoking), then something was wrong. Great way to loosen someone's "inhibitions" though. Maybe get them to try something "else" that'll be sure to give them the same kind of high. And once they're stoned, well, who knows........

I also know people that just smoke regular pot - basically whatever they can get their hands on. And after years and years, they too smoke it as often as most people smoke cigarettes. It's not hard to see the drooping eyes, slurred speech and mental lapses.

I'm sure it's nothing to do with heavy pot smoking though, because everyone keeps saying how wonderful it is.

But just like alcohol - in moderation it's not that bad. But abuse it and consume large quantities all the time and you'll end up just as screwed up as if you did the same thing with pot.

What a load of crap, it would be nigh impossible to smoke 30 grams in a day. Have been smoking ganja for over 25 years, still manage to keep a good job and my brain is in ok condition.

All these alcoholic sex fiends preaching on the dangers of cannabis, just go back in your box and stop judging everyone. Who the do you think you are. Probably the same ppl illegally buying valium and viagra ? Still this is TV and their is plenty of crap written here.

    you said it!

  4. KFC, Tesco , local markets those are all places where low class people go. Yes you can expect bad manners there. They don't cut me in line there because i m standing wide and solid and don't let them push me or i start talking english to them.

What i noticed that old rich Thai/Chinese lady's also show very bad manners. They act like they are queens and don't have to stand in line.

I know the Thai gossip about me as well but i just say chai kaphom to them to let them think i speak thai. Always works.

I like Thai food, so I have never been able to comprehend why anyone would want to go to an American fast-food "restaurant" when there is far better, healthier and cheaper food available outside, either on the street or in a real cafe/restaurant. That goes for Thai's and foreigners.

Yes I do eat European food in Thailand, but usually go for Thai, apart from the wife making me a breakfast bacon sandwich - when she can be bothered and probably wants something !

Thais probably go to Macs, KFC etc because it makes them look rich. Can't be poor, because one meal would buy 3 cheap Thai meals.

Anyway, Macs is usually full of school kids working towards obesity.

Yes the Thais want to look like most farang males I see here.
