Where did you read that?
There are certain rules on bank accounts.
If after 1 year of no transactions on the accounts they become dormant.
The bank continues to take an annual fee from the account and once the remaining funds in the account are depleted the account will be closed.
If the account is active, funds going in and out there should be no problem.
Was just bar talk. Yes, they was probably away for more than a year and left unused.
Thank you for your reply.

Hi. I have heard lately of people having their bank accounts closed while out of Thailand.
I originally came here on a retirement visa and have been with Bangkok bank for last ten years.
Last couple of years left Thailand and GF used ATM just to pay rent, never a problem.
Am leaving Thailand again soon but have now heard these rumors and am concerned,
some say they lost their money when account was closed.
Very grateful for any advice/info.
Thank you.

Was doing it mainly for the marriage visa but now thinking best to stick with retirement and save any future problems.
Cheers.

Thank you for the information. Looking at the site you directed me to I see that being married considerably lessens the amount of pension you receive. Am in the process of getting married in Thailand right now, may have to rethink. Any thoughts?

"If you get New Zealand Superannuation or Veteran's Pension, you can go anywhere in the world and you may still be able to take up to 100 per cent of your gross payment with you. What you'll get depends on where you go to and how long you've resided in New Zealand."
My example, if you choose to live/reside in Thailand and wish to receive NZ Super
You must have resided in New Zealand for a minimum of ten years after the age of 20, and five years between the ages of 50 and 65.
The amount you receive is based on a calculation of how long you have lived in New Zealand between the ages of 20 and 65 - that is 540 months.
540 months = full entitlement
For every month residing (not holidaying) out of the country the superannuation payment would reduce by 1/540th
For example if you had lived in Thailand for 10 years, that is 120 months, you would receive 420/540th of full entitlement - that is 78%
More info here
Hope this helps. The most common confusion/ myth is around that 26 weeks which only applies to NZ residents, not if you're moving permamently
Thank you.

Hi. I am hoping to find someone who has retired here from NZ, or who has knowledge of this, and can advise. I am seeing conflicting information online concerning the age pension, the only type which I will be receiving. At a glance I read that you can take your NZ age pension and live anywhere, but looking further into it, it says you can leave NZ for no longer than 26 weeks or pension will stop. I am a few years away yet from the required age and fulfill all the requirements, just cant seem to find any solid info concerning this. If the 26 weeks is correct are there any loopholes?
Thank you.

Hi. I have recently returned to Chiang Mai and am looking for a new laptop. Have bought from Pantip before and was very happy with the product but now Pantip is dead. Can anyone recommend the best place now in CM with good selection and service for farang.
Thank you.

To be honest, I would never leave my Thai wife for over 1 year. She could be cheating on you

Not a problem.
For that period of time for your return to Thailand what visa etc option you opt for depends on period of visit etc.
Plenty of guys (still working in home country) visit for period of months each year.
Plenty of options for married guys eg 60 extension to visit wife etc etc.
OK, thank you very much.

Hi guys.
Wondering what happens if im married to a Thai and leave the country for over 1 year. What would be the procedure when returning after, say, two years? Is there any amount of time where the marriage isn't recognized at all? Thank you.

Are you allowed to post links to other sites here? Just found something very interesting that helps with accommodation proof for tourist visa and wanted to share.

Hi guys.
I have previously received some good advice here concerning marriage visa but someone took over my post and is now too confusing, so starting new.
So. I am looking at requirements for tourist visa from NZ and says that I need proof of accommodation. I will be staying at girlfriends house so please could you advise me on kind of proof needed. I do realize that this could easily be looked up but you guys have previously come up with better options and good advise which I wouldn't have found elsewhere so please forgive simple questions.
Thank you very much.

Am coming mid May. Reading agents email again she says best to get a 60 day tourist visa and extend that as we do not have a date set for marriage and at least 21 days is needed left on entry visa to convert. Have contacted them and told them your suggestion and if they agree. Cant see much difference and would be much easier. Is weekend now so wont hear until Monday. Will let you know what they say.
Appreciate the advice, thank you.

Yes,I have everything required. I am doing this through an immigration service and they say I need a tourist visa and then convert once I am there. Think I remember doing the same years ago for retirement visa so thought nothing of it. Will check further. Will look for cheap onward ticket.
Thank you for your reply.

Hi.
I am about to get everything in order to travel to Thailand from NZ on a tourist visa for marriage purposes. Have lived there with Thai GF, previously, for ten years, so please, no well meant advise about that. I see that i need, with my application for visa, a round trip ticket which I will not be using in the near future. So, I would like to ask the best way to do this. Thinking a forwarding booking to the cheapest country even though I may lose the cost, would this be acceptable? Any advice about this and anything else that may help would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you very much.
