  1. Oscar, pretend you're a "believer" and just carry on as you are. She doesn't seem like a "proper" muslim and won't know any different. Religion is such bullsh1t how can you possibly take it serious in this day and age?!

  2. LOL they did that with us when we got taken for a ride a couple of years ago when I was an amateur Bangkoker!! I think we paid 50 THB for the tuk tuk but got a tour to a few temples etc Apparently the Royal Palace was closed for the day because of some ceremony the monks were doing or something bit we went to a gem shop instead!!!! LOL he got his free petrol voucher, great, but he did actually say we didn't have to buy anythiung from there as long as we went in and had a look around he would get his petrol voucher he didn't care! Yes the jewellery was lovely and beautiful but was I interested in buying any? err no. The only way they could have tempted me to part with my hard earned money was if they gave it away for free!!! Mind you we had no idea whatsoever that this all was a scam until I came across the whole story on an internet site which relayed step by step exactly what had happened to us....i.e. meeting a very genuine, professional guy at one of the temples telling us of a brilliant tax free promotion at this jewellery shop blah blah!! The things people do to rip people off it's daylight bloody robbery! PAH!

  3. I think having expectations from anything let alone a Thai girl is almost self-dillusion. I mean what exactly are one's expectations based on? There is no standard/normal/off-the-shelf Thai girl by which one can make an expectation really. Personally I don't have any form of expectation of anything anymore from what I'll make for breakfast to life itself!

What's the point? Just let things happen the way they will and accept the result - it is what it is. When do things ever work out "the way we expect them to"? Surprise is better!

  4. Having thought about there was an occassion I met a "normal" Thai girl...on my flight back to the UK she was a (pretty fit!!) airline stewardess. Anyway we had a short chat on the plane cos she was busy doing her stuff too and when we landed I slipped her my number and told her to call me next time she was in town. I didn't think anything of it and thought there was no way she'd call me. Lo and behold a couple of weeks later she sent me a text saying she was coming on such and such a date. Well...we met up and went out for drink....she was well fit, I couldn't believe it...not only that, I'm "non-white" too so that says a lot about race relations (improving) from Thais...!!!! Or maybe I am just "you so hansome yooooouu, I li you smiiiile" :o

  5. So long as your face fits, you'll be hired.

That's the other risk for me....genetically I have a nicer sun-tan than most farangs :o and I know this might not do me any favours when looking for work in Thailand...I wouldn't have let that fail me, however, and give in to the race game. I would and still intend to come and give it a shot. It's just that having a job secured beforehand is a hassle-free option. At the end of the day the 40k salary is very good (the school must obviously be paying toward 50k for the actual position then?). What are the chances I'd secure a 40k+ teaching job otherwise? Maybe I could I dunno.

By the way what is the start of the academic year? I want to come early January but I'm wary of coming at a time when recruitment isn't going to be happening on a large scale. I don't mind sitting around for a few weeks though.

  6. Ok I'm faced with 2 options (1) come to Bkk and look for a teaching job on my own, knock on doors etc etc or (2) pay the company I did my TEFL with for them to get me a job. I had a chat with them and said I wouldn't want anything less than 35k and would consider a 40k upward position. Got a call back today and they've got a 40k job for me starting in April if I want it....not bad eh? I've asked for all the details of the package, school etc so just waiting for that. It will probably cost me £500 or so but it takes out the hassle and uncertainty.

What do you reckon? Should I go for it? I guess 40k isn't bad for a new starter with no experience like me? :o

  7. Seriously hard to say what her intentions are, perhaps you should ask???

Isn't it ironic the minute the tables are turned (on a guy) question marks are raised as to what the girl's intentions are... :D

I mean isn't it a dream come true for something like that to be handed on a plate??!! I'd love for that to happen to me!! Guess it is quite unusual though. :o

  8. Approach with caution I'd say, it isn't something a 'normal' Thai girl would do (not that I've met any... :o ). Maybe this is a new type of hustler?!! If she's a bit of alright and you're up for a bit of adventure but can keep your wits about you then go for it and see how it goes. But the slightest hint of her playing you you gotta get outta there!!

  9. But dont worry about changing your visa status from a 30 day entry to a Non - Imm type for a WP - you can do that once you get to Thailand (i.e. no need to go all the way home to get it re-issued).

    Tim

Unless I'm mistaken I think this is incorrect. You do need to return to the UK to get the correct visa i.e. non-imm 'B' as this needs to be issued from your place of origin. I already had a chat with the Consulate here in the UK and this is what they told me.

  10. Are you looking for tourists or those that live in Bkk or just any as long as they meet your requirements? LOL I guess you can just hang around outside the arrivals terminal at the airport and pounce on them as soon as they're coming in.....!

    :o:D

  11. There are a number of bungalow type resorts on Chaweng. I've stayed at Evergreen Resort and found it to be adequate. The rooms are quite small but for me it's just a place to sleep and keep my luggage while i'm there and I don't spend a lot of time in a hotel room...except at night...or day whenever I manage to get back from a night out!

Having just visited Samui a couple of weeks ago Evergreen (I didn't manage to stay there this time due to being fully booked) are having construction work carried out at the moment so it's probably not the best choice right now. Further down Chaweng's south is the First Bungalow resort, they have some brand new bungalows built and the beach area is very nice and not vastly busy, however, they might be above your price range but is a nice place to stay. Try sawadee.com they have good rates and a good choice of places to stay with plenty of pictures and reviews by people who have stayed there - good luck and enjoy.

  12. I don't fear it as such but I wouldn't want to be alone.

I was married for 10 years including 4 years separation and now divorced but we both never quite had that magic with each other and to tell you the truth I felt lonely throughout those years as I didn't feel as if I had that special someone to share my life with - maybe this is exceptional but it just shows you can feel lonely even when there is someone there with you...
