Neither actually quoted anyone as far as I know, so put it down to the usual standard of Thai journalism. Even if there were officers who gave such statements, it's very well known that people here like to shoot their mouth off over something they know nothing about, so the only real source should be from one senior officer making a statement.
Again, as far as I know, that hasn't happened yet while enquiries are on-going. The only brief from the police to the media that is mentioned in the linked article is saying that is what is happening. Everything else is hearsay.

The officers on duty went out for lunch at 11.30am and left Winder alone. When they returned, they found that Winder had committed suicide, they said. Police said they examined the CCTV cameras and saw Winder, alone in the room, crying out for help before hanging himself with the rope from his shorts, reports KhaoPhuket.

In the reports it also said it was on CCTV...
Show it to the Oz relevant authorities to clear-up any misunderstandings over reports - even though they were all from the police apparently.

Only in Thailand.
I'd probably drive away too if I had an angry gang around my car.
I know an Isaan guy who almost got killed by an angry mob of villagers after he hit someone.
I think the law says: you have to stop or if you don't stop you must go to a police station immediately. Which is a sensible policy considering you might get lynched in Thailand if you stop.
What, by endangering someone's life by driving off at very high speed with someone you hit initially hanging onto your bonnet.
A little slip - could have very easily have ended in murder..
Should be seen as such...

I once couldn't get a key out of a car I'd just bought - they didn't tell me there was a button under the steering wheel I needed to press to release the ignition key......

My wife and I have bought and sold a number of condos without the need of a lawyer ( We live in the UK and Bkk British/Thai).
You don't say if this is a new condo or a resale. Are you buying through an estate agent ?
30K to go to the land dept - that's basically £800 + VAT for an hour of a secretary's time. Drafting an agreement - £1K + vat that is an hrs work at most from a template. We did our own based on previous experiences and standard "Estate Agent" contracts.
Those prices look high - but obv' they're a law firm.
If you don't mind me asking how long have you been in Thailand and how long have you been looking for a condo? Don't rush in..... there are many, many more...
Bkk hasn't seen the Russian influx of buyers like Phuket etc and the Chinese are still away in numbers.
As the above poster said I wouldn't buy a condo without been in BKK.
We just sold one, the missus flew back for the week and all sorted with time to spare. These were in BKK CBD.

Isn't the problem that if you get caught/stopped/checked by the police during that overstay period, the ability to pay a fine(500 pd) goes out of the window and you end up with a one-year ban.

Why did you think that corruption (although he had been released without charge pending further enquiries) was the sole preserve of Westminster? I appreciate that the Tories are rotten to the core, but your country, unfortunately, isn't the only one blighted by corruption.
But again, as I have stated many times, the SNP is merely the vehicle to take us to independence. The end goal of freeing ourselves of the malevolent presence of the government of choice of the country next door is still very much in sight.
You're still way off the Tories - more conference league players.

A Conservative MP who reportedly offered to lobby ministers on behalf of the gambling industry and leak a confidential policy document for up to £4,000 a month has had the party whip suspended.....

Don't do it unless you've been living together for a couple of years - and I don't mean popping over once every six months.
If not there's a significant chance you're going to be kissing that money + the doing-up money goodbye once all is complete - regardless of any document.

We got married in Bangrak in Bangkok 10 yrs ago.
I think all we needed was a freedom to marry affidavit ( translated across the road from the British Embassy ).
The "service" - no witnesses in the office took about 15 mins. Very fast. Don't know why you'd need an agent.

The process is taking longer than expected whilst the buyer gets the funds together
I'd view this as they don't have the cash - maybe just dreamers - many people say they'll buy when they don't really have the resources. I hope you haven't taken the property off the market.
We just sold one of ours in BKK and even though we knew the agent ( lived in same building & had let it for us), my wife got back on a plane once we had a deposit of two million in the form of a bankers cheque and a contract had been signed, detailing apt, price, division of taxes, completion dates etc and any penalty fees for both parties on failure to complete within the date time-frame.
Your agent in BKK probably has a contact at the land dept, so you should know the costs of tax etc. You can write a contract set it up etc. You should know a detailed cost breakdown before you agree to sell anything.
I certainly wouldn't give an agent ( anybody can claim to be an agent ) to have authority over my property when I wasn't in the country.

You can use DeeMoney to transfer up to 800,000 THB into a pound sterling account ( flat-fee is 133 baht ) per day. That's well over your £15K amount at the current exchange rates.
You can transfer monies(THB-Sterling) from your bank KB,SCB etc.
My wife has used the above three methods to transfer baht from her account into my UK sterling accounts over the last two weeks ( we split as we were picking the method that had the best x-rate when required ). After monitoring them for 2 weeks SCB & Deemoney seem to usually come out best.
NOTE: WISE does not currently allow one to transfer THB to Pound sterling.- 1

This is a problem of Thailand's own making.
The policy of if you overstay by up to 30 days you get fined at the airport on exit allows tourists to believe they have an option of paying a specified declared exit fine(up to 20K)
Most tourists are not aware if they actually get stopped outside the airport on overstay that option is not available and it could result in arrest and IDC.Tourists hear the stories of paying a fine at the airport if the leave less than 30 days past their visa date and prefer it to wasting a day at the I.O office if staying longer than their initial visa ( usually 30 day VOA or similar).
Solution: Offer the ability to do a one-time on-line extension for the first extension(30 day) would see a reduction in short overstays - I believe most of these are just a tick-box exercise. Remove the 30 day possibility of paying a fine on exit at the airport. The possibility of the fine at the airport has to be removed for clarity. It makes everything very clear, if you overstay no ifs-or-buts, you will be blacklisted for x time dependent on days. They had the option to extend but chose intentionally to ignore it, resulting in documented consequences .

Won't you both need a representative at the land dept?
The taxes need to be paid ( they are being stricter on this, so at to match correct values - harder to say it's only worth x. and pay little tax). We bought our first place off an American, I didn't see any difference to when we bought another off a Thai couple.
We sold a place last month(BKK) - we had the purchaser give us four different cashier cheques as I didn't want such a large amount in one bank and it spread across a number.
The Land taxes we paid our half ( depending on what you've agreed with the seller) in cash to the land dept.
Make sure you get receipts for all taxes etc
I've often thought if I was going to mug/rob someone, the land dept would be best the place - many people walking around with millions in brown envelopes :-)

Anywhere in this world healthcare is cheaper than in the USA.
This is why international insurances have policies which exclude the USA or are a lot more expensive if the USA is included.
Many in the UK have now started bracketing Thailand in with the USA as top tier e.g. one of the biggest insurers Staysure:

Worldwide: Excluding USA, Canada, Caribbean, Bermuda, Mexico, Thailand, China & Hong Kong

The market has it's own parking - many floors. We used to go every 2-3 weeks on a Sunday morning.
The cost is not that expensive.

Not anywhere near as good as I was lead to believe - everything seemed old. The inflight service was terrible.
Pre-covid I used to fly B.A. the vast majority of times.
As B.A. are not flying direct now - just code-sharing non-direct we decided to fly Eva in Nov'-Jan as I prefer direct.
In my opinion B.A. is miles better other than EVA checked baggage allowance. Hold luggage much better on B.A., entertainment, food, drinks, basically everything & cheaper.
My wife in the last 6 months has flown return from LHR with Emirates, Eva, Qatar. She rated them Emirates, Qatar and Eva. ( Economy ).
If it was me, I'd still fly Eva as I just want to get there in the fastest time without the hassle of connections, I just now know what to expect.I'd say it's more down to the price/schedules

Phuket police open inquest into the death of Australian tourist found at Patong Police Station

The police that were there - not the "high ranking officer" who was brought in to manage the death of a foreigner.
If someone gets murdered by a hi-so do we only believe what the hi-so says after speaking to their lawyers.
