You may find that the process is far less pleasurable than a trip to Hull

Have you ever been to Hull ? I used to go there for weekends out with my brothers who were  miners around Selby - it was basically a boxing match weekend ????

Best place was/is Mark in Gibraltar, you could pop into his house on the main street and be out in 5 mins with a new visa.

To the OP, we just looked at travel insurance as we're travelling this weekend for 90 days. Staysure were good but their prices seem to have gone up considerably for > 30 days( they now bundle Thailand with USA at the highest rate ). Virgin Travel Insurance are doing good offers for annual insurance, with one leg up to 100 days.

  2. We booked Eva a couple of months ago to travel this weekend - was £765 each in Economy (LHR_BKK_LHR)

At the time, Emirates was roughly the same rate, but I prefer to travel direct. Thai was more expensive.

We actually chose our seats and submitted passenger info' last night.

Never flown Eva before, 90% B.A., then Thai, Emirates. Eva seems to have good baggage allowance  - not that I need it.

I never tried the Wise Card in 7/11, but I have tried it in

    - DoHome

    - Global

    - a local Builders merchant

    - HomePro

    - Big C

    - Bangkok Hospital

    and it was always accepted.

    If you use it,
    A) don't forget to unfreeze it
    B) Enable Chip / Pin Transactions in the Wise App

Edit: When you use the Wise Card tell the Cashier to set the Transaction as THB and not home country if you use THB it will deducted from your THB balance in Wise

We got one earlier in the year and loaded a little cash onto it ( pounds ).

When the missus went to use it I believe there was a 200+ baht withdrawal fee at the ATM

If we transfer pounds to Baht on the card - we just loaded it with pounds( I assume something we can do online ) are we still charged the 200+ ATM withdrawal fee or is that standard as it's a foreign card?

    We're back this week too.

I think I read the same thread - seemed to be much quieter & some places closed down(not that it was ever busy, busy)

I was thinking of popping down for a 4-5 days - luckily one of our condos is in Rama2 so we can get off early. That road is a nightmare from BKK - esp' now due to roadworks ( My wife went back in March and the traffic was awful)

If it's quiet, there maybe some good deals at the high-end hotels etc.

The ones we've looked at in BKK/Samed/Pattaya are pretty normal prices for time of year.

We're just looking for a few decent bars/restaurants and nice beach area ( and me access to watch the world-cup ) in a decent hotel ????

    Same  as in other countries

Mine in London with Virgin is 300+ every day - it doesn't drop. I check often.

I do reboot the router once a week at the weekend when I pop to the shops.

My old BT one did drop.

  6.

Re bargaining - Thais would always go in much lower so that is what I'd do.

    If it's up for 10, I'd start at 8 to 8.5.

Someone offered me 17 for one of mine a couple of weeks ago, but I think it's worth 19 so I said, no. Tenants in there already.

My advice would be to rent though if you're in Bangkok/larger Town at the moment.

Make sure you know the cost of the community fees and if they'e any extraordinary fees at present e.g. for new lifts/painting etc

Make sure you search condo name to get baseline figures for that condo/size/beds - unless it's small you'll see others for sale & go look at them e.g. hipflat, ddproperty.

Measure twice - cut once !

I remember hiring a manual car which had one of these at Heathrow. I drove to my parents whose house is on a hill and parked up - snowing outside. Came out and I'd been blocked in - a few inches wither side.

Using it whilst trying to revers up a hill using clutch control with only a few inches either side was terrifying, thinking of the  damage I may do if it didn't work as expected ????

    I was thinking around Baht 1.5 mil…. ??

I did a lot more than that(that's not a great deal of money), you can use a currency exchange e.g. TorFX/Cambridge(I've used both) etc in the UK stating it's for living expenses etc. They're all coming from your personal bank accounts. I'd just open an account with anyone like the above, transfer your money to them and then to your/wive's Thai account. Just split it into 2 or 3 bundles, the rate won't differ much over a few days - it'll make you feel more comfortable checking when it arrives. Try a smaller amount first-time to ensure the process from the provider to the Thai bank is fine(account no's etc correct). The consultant will tell you the best method.

Same process 1000's of people use to buy properties in Spain etc,

I have a pic' of me and John Paul II together in Rome when I was 14

No I don't believe in God - I was brought up a catholic with an Irish Father and catholic schooling

My father believed in God much more after he had a heart attack and then a stroke.

I do believe in treating people like you'd like to be treated - more of that and less religion would go a long way

  10.

So what is the new rate - we'll be doing our Xmas/New Year visit to Samed as per usual ( missed it the last 2 years ) as been back in the UK. Used to make it about 5+ times a year from Bangkok.

I also heard our usual speed boat to Samed Villa is no longer possible and we have to go to the main Samed pier.

20+ years and now they change it. We'd always get a speed boat at 8 and it would usually beat the officers to the beach, so no entry fee  ????

FritsSikkink says Bangkok immigration doesn't need it, so I will not do it myself

Out of curiosity how do your tenants doit themselves ? By internet or going to Immigration ?

Internet - I just give them login and password.

In general post Covid we've been based in the UK so we're not popping in to do TM30's for anybody.
